Five days later.
Ruby Green received news that the Piers were coming to propose a marriage, so she busily arranged for her discharge from the hospital, and incidentally drove Abigail out of the maternity hospital.
It was still a bit cool in Gills City in April. Abigail wrapped herself in a thin coat and dragged her heavy body to watch the departing car of the Green household, raising an eyebrow.
Abigail Green’s accident happened after her college entrance exam. Two months later, she discovered she was pregnant. After registering at Swallow City Medical University, she took a leave of absence and was concealed by Rose and her mother in a courtyard in Gills City, waiting for the delivery.
Now seven months had passed, she should’ve been at the Medical University.
The original host despised that house, and Abigail had no fondness for this so-called Green household either, but there were things that could only be resolved by going home.
She hailed a taxi and gave the driver the Greens’ address in Southern Town.
When the car passed by Sincere Hospital, Abigail instinctively looked up, staring at the white, three-dimensional buildings where she had worked for a year.
After graduating from Yale, she had spent three years training at the Cleveland Hospital. Her reputation soared due to a thoracic surgery, and then she returned home, only to…
Looking at the white curtain hanging high in the hospital, Abigail furrowed her brows and asked, “Sir, do you know what happened to Sincere Hospital?”
The driver didn’t want to deal with this fat chick but remembered her family’s address, so he responded respectfully, “Have you not heard? The youngest surgical genius of Sincere Hospital dropped dead in the operating room. Their dean was so grief-stricken, the whole hospital mourned him. I heard this jolted quite a few big shots! It’s a real pity, how could someone so young suddenly pass away…”
His last comment was filled with sincere regret.
Abigail kept silent, her eyes welled up with melancholy. Yeah, how did she, so young, just up and die?
Dead was dead, and she was reincarnated into a fat woman’s body…
She wondered what her grandfather and senior fellow students would think if they saw her now. Nevertheless, she decided that it would be best not to frighten them for the time being.
The taxi cut through the city center and into Southern Town’s villa district, but was blocked at the entrance of the community.
“I’m Abigail Green from Building 28, Unit 1.” Abigail’s phone had been tossed out by Rose and her mother a long time ago, and she didn’t have any money on her. She needed the driver to bring her in so she could ask Lincoln Green to pay.
“Sorry, but this is a private villa district. Without a pass, you can’t enter.” The guard rejected her callously, refusing to let unrelated people into the community.
Abigail furrowed her brows and was about to speak when the impatient driver urged her, “Miss, why don’t you just pay me first? It’s a total of two hundred and seven.”
“I didn’t bring my phone.” Abigail was a little embarrassed; she’d never had to struggle for money in her past life.
“You can pay cash too.” The driver’s tone was already showing some annoyance.
“I didn’t bring any.”
“Fuck, you fat bitch, you’re cheating your way out of paying for your ride!” The once polite driver suddenly turned hostile, raising his voice. The word ‘Miss’ was replaced with ‘fat bitch’, his regular face showing signs of disdain.
Abigail’s expression turned grave, “If you can get me in, I can have someone pay you.”
“How do I know you’re not fooling me? Buddy, do you know this fat woman?” The driver was still somewhat apprehensive. After all, this villa community was filled with only the rich and powerful. He didn’t really want to risk upsetting anyone, so he got out of the car to ask the security guard for help.
“Never saw her before.” The guard didn’t even bother to look at the fat Abigail Green and firmly answered.
The taxi driver was instantly enraged. “Pay up! If you don’t pay up today, just you watch how I’ll deal with you. As ugly as you are, you still have the cheek to fake being rich and can’t even afford taxi fare. Ever heard of taking the bus or subway? Damn, you’re really a jinx!”
Abigail’s face flushed and paled. She had seen all kinds of people in the hospital. Common people always appeared friendly when their own interests weren’t threatened, but once interests were involved, they could change faces as fast as a Sichuan opera actor.
“I can call someone to bring the money out.” Abigail Green remembered Lincoln Green’s number. She was betting on whether or not the Recipient still had a hint of familial affection for the original host. If he didn’t, she had other methods.
“You’re still pretending, what if he doesn’t?” The driver was pressing her.
“He will.” Abigail answered resolutely. As long as Lincoln Green picked up the phone, she would make sure he paid.
With half-doubt, the driver handed his phone to Abigail. However, as soon as Abigail dialed, it was hung up. She dialed again, and it was hung up again.
“Fuck, just tell me how you’re planning to pay!” The driver immediately grabbed his phone back, glaring angrily at Abigail. The security guard on the side watched gleefully, allowing this ‘fat bitch’ to pretend to be rich.
Abigail fell silent and tried to remember her former bank account and the feasibility of withdrawing cash. But the cab driver lost his patience. He took her by surprise and pushed her to the ground, getting ready to lay hands on her. “You fat bitch…”
“Excuse me, what’s going on here?” A gentle male voice interrupted, not loud, but enough to stop the coarse driver. Then the car door opened and out came a tall and handsome man.
Abigail lifted her head and saw the divine face she had encountered just a few days ago. She hesitated for a moment, then abruptly said, “Lend me two hundred and seven, I’ll treat your ailment.”
Brandon Piers lowered his head, his initial surprise dissolved into a slight chuckle. “You’re going to treat my illness?”
“Yes.”
“With your qualifications?” He seemed to have heard a joke.
The Piers family had been seeking treatment for him for many years. Because of the peculiar location of the surgery, it required blind stitches and an extremely fast operation on a rare ‘Panda’ rh-positive blood type. The surgery had been postponed for many years. Until Abigail, the heir of Ancient Medical Family’s Eighteen Needle Method who had graduated from Yale specializing in cardiothoracic surgery, returned to the country from Cleveland, he had a glimmer of hope. His operation was supposed to be the next one Abigail performed, but she ended up dead.
“So, will you lend it to me?” Instead of answering Brandon’s question, Abigail stared straight at the stunningly handsome man with her pair of shiny peach blossom eyes.
Despite being overweight, her gaze was self-confident. Her eyes resembled gems dropped in the sand – they dazzled whenever they were polished slightly.
A woman as fat and ugly as she was, had such beautiful eyes.
Out of the blue, Brandon laughed, a refreshing laugh like a spring breeze brushing across one’s face. He squatted down and straightened the two legs that Abigail had spread out in front of him.
“No.” His answer was concise and decisive, almost musical.
Abigail glanced at her own legs, then at the handsome face that had just leaned in closer, “…”
He was definitely sick!
