Chapter 55
The old Mr. Xu caressed the ginseng like a pervert who finally got himself a woman. He turned the ginseng around to examine it carefully, his eyes glowing.
“Three million. Take the money and leave this ginseng here,” said the old Mr. Xu directly without letting go of the ginseng.
The old Mr. Xu looked at Jing Yunzhao appreciatively as if she had more rare herbs to sell while contemplating the best way to consume the ginseng. The ginseng was so precious that it was rarely seen even in the capital of the country, and it would be wasteful if he sliced them to be eaten raw. Maybe he should use it to make ginseng wine so that it could be kept longer and the nutritional value would be higher.
Meanwhile, Jing Yunzhao was stunned at the amount that Mr. Xu had offered to pay her. In her previous life, she had not seen or touched thirty thousand bucks, let alone three million!
But Jing Yunzhao was still rational about it. “Mr. Xu, it’s fine if you do not have that much money. I don’t want you to end up selling your house just for this ginseng.”
Wasn’t Mr. Xu just an ordinary old man? How could he afford a three million dollar ginseng? He had treated her well after all and she would blame herself if he ended up homeless because of the ginseng.
Mr. Xu looked like he was about to hit the ceiling, but controlled his temper when he remembered the precious ginseng that he was holding and said to Jing Yunzhao in a gentle tone he rarely used, “you think too little of me; three million is nothing to me. Xingyuan! Transfer the money to her.”
Xingyuan was the man who had been following the old Mr. Xu. He was usually cold with others and only became kind and respectful with Mr. Xu, but now that Jing Yunzhao had pleased Mr. Xu, Xingyuan began to show his kind face to her too.
“I don’t have a bank account,” said Jing Yunzhao hesitantly, who hadn’t expected to receive such a big amount.
“Xingyuan will help you get one.” The old Mr. Xu waved at the both of them impatiently and went into the house with his precious ginseng without saying anything else.
“Uncle Xingyuan, is this ginseng really worth that much money?” Jing Yunzhao asked, still stunned.
“Ginseng is highly valuable when it is old and its surface is not damaged. The quality of the ginseng that you brought is so good that it is rarely seen,” explained Uncle Xingyuan who was also surprised to see the quality of the ginseng that Jing Yunzhao had brought.
Their surprise alerted Jing Yunzhao. Looks like she would have to stop selling ginseng or the old Mr. Xu might get suspicious and ask her about it.
Then again, she had to admit that the old Mr. Xu and Uncle Xingyuan were both kind men. Although the herbs she had been selling them were not as expensive as the ginseng today, her herbs were of the finest quality and they had been accepting them without saying or asking anything. Any other person would have gotten curious and asked her about the fine herbs she always had.
There were banks nearby the alley although it was a remote area, and with Xingyuan accompanying her, Jing Yunzhao did not attract any unwanted attention despite her young age.
She needed money for school and her living expenses, so she kept ten thousand in cash and saved the rest of her money in two separate bank accounts.
Jing Yunzhao headed towards Xiang Hai Restaurant for her dinner with Xiao Haiqing after the transaction had been completed.
Xiang Hai Restaurant was located in the centre of Huaning County. It was a big restaurant with an extremely extravagant interior.
Jing Yunzhao had heard before that the owner of Xiang Hai Restaurant was not local but from the capital of the country. His ancestors were from Huaning County and so he always had to come here to offer sacrifices to his ancestors, and Xiang Hai Restaurant was built to save him the trouble of having to find somewhere to eat and stay whenever he came to Huaning County.
“Yunzhao!” Xiao Haiqing who was sitting and waiting at a corner in the restaurant leapt up from her seat the moment she saw Jing Yunzhao and ran towards her. “Why are you so late? I almost thought I was being stood up!”
