Chapter 397: Gatekeeper Monsters
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
As of now, 12 hours had passed since the release of the third Main Plot Dungeon and its associated dungeon. Other than teams and studios that were focused on conquering the smaller dungeons, almost all notable guilds had poured in all their effort into plowing through the Holy Light Ancestral Temple.
The Holy Light Ancestral Temple’s difficulty level exceeded everyone’s expectations. Even the two gatekeeping monsters were a great deal of trouble for most of the teams! At the eleventh hour of the dungeon release, the fastest team, ‘Twilight Transmigration’, reported back their team leader, Character Z’s remark about Boss 1: Invincible, no teams currently would be able to pass!
Such high remarks drew snickers from many players as they regarded this new guild with disdain. However, other pieces of news followed closely.
Steel Allies, stuck at Boss 1.
Three Alliances, stuck at Boss 1.
Brotherhood’s Second Savage Blade, Third Savage Blade, stuck at Boss 1!
Almost all the teams got stuck at Boss 1, ‘Guardian Eller’.
On the other hand, no news was heard from Brotherhood’s Savage Blade, they had not stepped foot into the Holy Light Ancestral Temple.
...
—System Announcement: Congratulations to ‘Supreme Tribe’ Leader, Baili Changcheng for the ‘Holy Light Ancestral Temple’ First Kill, the first kill rewards are 400,000 EXP, 10 gold coins, 300 Guild of Light Reputation Points. Additional reward of 1 Attribute Point.
“Damn, it’s that Supreme Tribe again.”
“I know, right? Since the dungeon release, this guild has obtained, at least, 5 first kills already, right? This is the sixth one? What on earth is their deal?”
“It looks like an up and coming guild, that Baili Changcheng seems to be a member of the Brotherhood’s Savage Blade.”
“Oh, so they are friends of the Brotherhood, wth... Could it be that Savage Blade didn’t conquer the Ancestral Temple so as to support Supreme Tribe in obtaining all the first kills to rise to fame?”
“Impossible! Who would do such naught for self, all for others’ acts?”
“Lone Wolf would! He will really do such things if he wants to help someone. Have you forgotten how it was during the final tournament?”
Discussions filled the game’s forum. It would still be understandable if Supreme Tribe had only obtained one first clear, however, with their rate of once every two hours, they had attracted the attention of numerous guilds and players. They were not afraid of an up and rising guild. Instead, they feared a guild that was represented by the Brotherhood that was able to make use of the latter’s rich resources to interfere with events and battles. That would be terrifying.
It was a common consensus that regardless of how strong the Brotherhood was, they were still a neutral party that lacked cohesion. However, with Lin Jie’s management, they had all come together and formed a gigantic entity. However, even so, they were still destructible.
However, the Brotherhood would be different if they formed a guild!
The Supreme Tribe’s emergence had caused a change in the complicated Guild of Light realm.
Holy Light Asylum.
“I have a total of 10 Fragments of Faith on hand.” 10 pieces of Gold Fragments of Faith laid in Lin Jie’s palms. There was a 90% chance for an explosion of Fragments of Faith during the first clear. After several dungeons, the five-man team had finally accumulated 10 fragments each.
This was a necessity when facing Boss 1!
The five-man team, representing Supreme Tribe, was well rewarded after obtaining the dungeon first clears. They already had 6 Attribute Points, which was equivalent to 1 level-up. They also had gained pretty good equipment and herbs. Lin Jie had even received a skill book specific for Warriors [Sharp Blade], which was able to increase the weapon’s additional attributes by 2% for 30 minutes after chanting for 6 seconds.
“Fu Sheng, we have received news from the team. Other than The Heavenly Shield’s team that’s lacking 2 more fragments, all the other teams have completed their collection and are awaiting further instruction,” reported Netherblue.
Conquering those moderately difficult dungeons was no longer a problem for Savage Blade as their teamwork improved.
After two and a half hours later, The Heavenly Shield team had collected 10 fragments each as well and returned to the team.
Currently, all guilds were still stuck at Boss 1.
“Let’s go into the Holy Light Ancestral Temple!” Lin Jie waved his hands and entered the temple.
The temple was similar to the other Main Plot Dungeon, in the sense that there was no difficulty selection level. However, players would be able to enter hero-level through different means.
There stood a beautiful convent, just like St Mary’s, that was built out of countless white bricks and jade. That was the third Main Plot Dungeon: Holy Light Ancestral Temple! Anyone that had their eyes on this architecture would be filled with solemnity as the temple had been voted as the ‘Holy Ground for Weddings’, the most beautiful church in Lin Jie’s previous life. Many couples had hired men to clear all the monsters within to have a virtual wedding.
—”You are about to enter the dungeon [Holy Light Ancestral Temple], the power of the Holy Light will shine on you, you will receive Holy Light Blessings randomly.”
They would activate the randomized Blessings upon entering the dungeon.
“Defense increased by 10%, I’m pretty lucky.” Mixed Breathless was pleasantly surprised as Defense was of utmost importance to Shield Specialists. On the other hand, The Heavenly Shield’s blessing was ironic: Magic Attack increased by 15%.
There was a large variety of Holy Light Blessings and attributes increment between 5-15%. Domestic Fat Cattle nearly fainted after he saw Heavenly Shield’s effects—it would be so tempting to Mages, what a pity that it went to him.
Lin Jie eyed his state silently: Protection Blessing, you have received an amulet that can only be used in the Holy Light Ancestral Temple. The effect: Revival after death and 35% of your health bar and mana bar will be replenished.
It was a rare revival item! This type of item was the no.1 treasure in The New Age. It was still an extremely hard item to find even 7 years later, which normal players were unable to utilize fully.
Two muscular gold-armored Paladins stood before them as they entered the temple.
[Fallen Guardians] (Rare Elite)
Level: 40
Health Points: 450,000
Attack: 1,475-1,839
Defense: 1,000
Additional effect: Fever Mania! Deals additional 30% damage to non-Holy Light units.
“What the f*ck!”
“Wth, how can this be a Rare Elite? This is obviously a Boss’ attributes, alright?”
Everyone was stunned by the terrifying attributes of the Rare Elites.
Lin Jie said, “These two Paladins, the one on the left is the Holy Paladin, while the one on the right is the Retribution Paladin. Star Kill, Netherblue and Baili, you three are in charge of stopping the Holy Paladin’s healing while the rest, full attack on the Retribution Paladin.”
“Okay!”
Everyone agreed in unison as everyone gulped down potions and food, boosting their buffs. Instantly light rays shone, and everyone’s attributes improved. However, everyone grew solemn.
“Let’s go!”
“Foolish Fallen, get lost!”
The Heavenly Shield and Mixed Breathless charged up and attacked with their shields while thunder sounded from beneath their feet as vibrations were sent out. This was the Shield Specialist skill [Thunder Damage], which was able to cause some damage while minimizing the opponent’s Attack Speed, weakening the monsters. Both men were extremely skillful Shield Specialists, so Mixed Breathless had contained the monster’s aggro in less than 10 seconds as he followed up with an OK sign. “Okay, time for output,” he said.
Whizz!
Everyone concentrated their attacks as Fireballs and Blade Auras were blasted onto the Retribution Paladin, and his health bar was drained by half! The two Paladins were tough opponents, and just looking at the Holy Paladin’s ‘Speed Healing’ skill, which had a casting time of 0.75 seconds and a healing amount of thousands, was annoying enough. Furthermore, every healing would add an attribute blessing to the Retribution Paladin, and as the battle continued on, the latter would grow to be a mini Boss.
Fortunately, Holy Paladin’s Healing could be interrupted by several professionals on the team. As long as they got their timing right, the Paladin would not be able to heal again. However, the players could not attack the Holy Paladin as well, or else the Retribution Paladin would throw him a Holy Defense Shield with 30,000 defense points that was able to disregard interruption techniques when the shield was being utilized.
“Everyone step back!”
“Holy Thunderstorm!”
Everyone retreated following Lin Jie’s growl, and two seconds later, the Retribution Paladin swiped his long spear as Holy Whirlwinds were generated. Holy Thunderstorm was able to deal 200% damage to enemies within 15 yards, as well as full recovery. This skill had a subtle beginning move as teams would usually fall prey to it. However, Lin Jie had already seen through this move in his previous life, how would he be defeated by it again? He commanded everyone to dodge it just in time. If they were to be hit by Holy Thunderstorm, the Retribution Paladin would be back to full health again.
“Continue with the damage output!”
The two Shield Specialists bolted up once again, and the rest were at ease again. The two Paladins may have strong attributes, but as long as Savage Blade could keep the Holy Paladin under control and stop its healing, as well as avoiding the Holy Thunderstorm, killing them would not be difficult.
Dungeons were passed by using brains instead of brawn. Taking the current situation, for example, if Lin Jie had not previously calculated the unleashing of the Holy Thunderstorm, based on Savage Blade’s attributes, they would have had been consumed fully by the self-healing effect of the skill!
As the Retribution Paladin’s health bar dwindled, Lin Jie eyed the Holy Paladin closely, and his Broken Blade swayed around his throat.
“Holy Heal!”
“Ice Spirit Slash!”
When the Holy Paladin was about cast his healing spell, Lin Jie sliced his throat at that precise moment and froze him. Holy Healing was an instant ability, but it still had a casting time of 0.2 seconds. However, this could no longer be predicted. Instead, one had to have a deep understanding of the monsters to be capable of this feat.
One of the biggest reasons for the other teams’ failures was this healing move. The Retribution Paladin has a health bar of 450,000 points, which would be fully replenished after the healing. Furthermore, it would be able to trigger the Retribution Paladin’s skill to throw the Holy Defense Shield to his partner, and then, both Rare Elites would be invincible.
Unless, they were able to obtain the rare Antimagic Scroll, which would restrain the Holy Paladin from casting spells for 3 seconds, and they would take this time to kill the Retribution Paladin. The Antimagic Scroll cost around 100 gold coins and was the solution other teams chose.
“Full damage output!” Lin Jie let out a breath after interrupting the Holy Healing skill. He then gulped down a Berserker Potion and attacked ferociously, finally slaying the Retribution Paladin. The Holy Paladin was helpless after being the lone survivor, so he was killed soon.
Ding~
A shining skill book dropped out.
Lin Jie’s heart jolted. The two Rare Elites at the door did not drop any equipment, but there was a chance of them producing skill books. And all of them were rare and fetched a high price, as well as containing rare skills!
—You have picked up the Skill Book: [Wind Spirit Protection].
