"Since it is just a meaningless call, just hang up..." The line went dead.

Kisa sat on the ground, stunned.

‘Gilbert didn't even bother saving my number. How much does he loathe me to treat me like a complete stranger? And that woman, what the is she doing with Gilbert? They seem too close!' Countless speculations raced through her mind, making her heart ache.

But she took a deep breath and forced herself not to overthink.

The urgent task was to get out of here.

Suddenly, a shadowy figure appeared in the distance.she gritted her teeth against the pain in her belly and squinted in its direction.

With a streetlamp close by, she eventually saw that the person was Thomas.

He had escaped, but he was hurt.

Without hesitation, Kisa ran over to him and asked, "Are you okay? "

Thomas froze for a second before blurting out, "What the hell are you still doing here? You need to get out of here, now!"

Kisa did not reply.

Instead, she pulled him to a nearby spot to sit down.

Thomas had injuries on his arm and leg, and blood was pouring out of him.

Kisa frantically tore up some tissue paper to stem the bleeding and urged, "We need to get to the nearest hospital, now!"

But Thomas shook his head.

"It's just a few cuts and bruises.I'm okay."

Kisa's eyes darted to the foot-long gash on his leg, and her voice caught in her throat.

"David is a monster. How could he do this to his own flesh and blood?"

Thomas shook his head.

"He's still got some sense of family, believe it or not. That's why he let me go."

Kisa felt sad, but she did not say anything. She just focused on treating his wounds, while Thomas stared at her hair, his eyes clouded with a mix of gratitude and complexity.

Terrified of being found by David, Kisa skipped the hotel and settled for a dingy motel instead.

After she made sure Thomas was okay, she dashed out to buy some medicine and bandages.

The morning was already bright, but the streets below were deserted, and the alleys were damp and grimy.

Kisa had to go further out to find a drugstore.

As she walked through a couple of alleys, she heard footsteps behind her.

Her heart raced with fear so she quickened her pace, but the pain in her belly intensified and she could hardly move.

She had to lean against the wall, panting heavily.

Suddenly, a strong hand grabbed her shoulder and shoved her against the wall. She screamed in terror, but when she saw who it was, her fear and helplessness turned into indescribable heartache.

"Gilbert..."

She choked, tears blurring her vision. But Gilbert's gaze was ice-cold, full of suspicion and hatred.

"What the hell are you doing here? Or is this another one of your dirty tricks?"

"I'm not..."

Kisa's voice trailed off as she clutched her stomach.

The pain was so intense that she was sweating and gasping for breath.

Gilbert frowned, looking at her pale face with concern.

"You—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Kisa's body gave out and she collapsed to the ground.

Startled, he caught her in his arms. His gaze softened as he watched her, and then turned frantic as she lost consciousness.

Kisa woke up again, the pungent smell of disinfectant making her nauseous. She realized she was in a hospital and sat up abruptly.

There was a man leaning against the window, watching her intently.

"Where am I??? How long was I out..?"

Kisa demanded, ready to bolt from the bed.
