Chapter 1519

David lowered his eyes and let out a low, sinister chuckle. "Compared to the hell I went through back in the day, this punishment is a goddamn joke." He signaled for his bodyguard to unlock the door.

As the iron door creaked open, a voice filled with rage and fear echoed from inside. "Who are you people? Why did you snatch me up like this?"

The warehouse was bare, but it had a bed and a shoddy table piled high with enough food and supplies to get by. Sara was locked up in there too, and Madalyn lay on the bed with Sara helping her sit up. When Kisa walked in, Madalyn froze like a statue, but Sara did not miss a beat.

She shot daggers at Kisa and spat out, "What the hell are you doing here, Kisa? Did you really team up with these goons to hurt Mrs. Kooper Sr.? How could you be so heartless? She's everything to Gilbert, and you're putting him in danger, you scum."

As Sara tore into Kisa, Madalyn's face contorted with rage. "You despicable creature! You're just as venomous as your trashy mother!" Madalyn snarled, her anger palpable.

As Madalyn hurled insults, David's hand visibly tightened at his side.

‘Is he not going to tolerate anyone insulting his mother? But if he truly cares about his mother, why did he abandon her in the first place?' Kisa thought.

"What do you want with Mrs. Kooper Sr.? Are you trying to use her to blackmail Gilbert?" Sara asked, her anger barely contained. She was doing a damn good job of pretending not to be in cahoots with David.

Sara's question only made Madalyn more agitated, and she glared at Kisa with increasing hatred.

"Let me tell you this, even if I die, I won't let you hurt my precious grandson, you wicked b*tch."

"Your precious grandson?" David sneered suddenly, his voice as cold as ice. "Don't worry, your precious grandson will be here soon enough."

Madalyn's face turned white as a sheet, "What are you planning? What are you going to do to my grandson?"

Kisa watched as Madalyn panicked, realizing she still did not know that Adrien was actually David. But just as she was hesitating whether or not to spill the beans, Adrien reached up and started fiddling with something on his face. Kisa quickly realized what was happening as a human skin mask slowly peeled away from David's face. She was shocked as she stared at the unfamiliar face in front of her. This had to be David's true face. Madalyn was equally stunned, her voice trembling as she spoke, " David, is that really you?"

She stumbled toward him, her wrinkled face lit up with excitement.

"When did you come back? Why didn't you come look for me? You have no idea how much I missed you." Madalyn grabbed onto

David's arm, tears streaming down her face. But David was not having any of it. He brushed off Madalyn's handand spoke with a tone dripping with sarcasm, "Just a pawn you threw away. You remember that, right?"

Madalyn gazed at him, dumbfounded. "What...what do you mean?"

"You only adopted me back then to uphold your image of being a kind-hearted person. And then, you were afraid I would take away your biological son's inheritance, so you plotted to kick me out of the Kooper family. Do you still remember all of this?"

Madalyn froze, unable to refute him. All she could do was hang her head in sadness and say, "I really did treat you like a son back then.

But I was afraid you would become enemies with Damon, and I—"

"Hmph!" David sneered, his voice tinged with bitterness. "Blood is thicker than water. I don't blame you for favoring your own son over me. But what I hate the most is that you betrayed me. I saw you as a mother, but you..."

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Madalyn covered her face with her hands, sobbing with regret. "It was my paranoia back then. I'm sorry. But I'm glad you are back now."

Madalyn reached for his arm again, her face beaming with excitement. "We can be a family again."

But David's expression was bleak. "We can't go back."
