Jensen stood casually with one hand in his pocket, his gaze drifting toward a distant pond.He spoke calmly.

"Hayes wouldn't hurt you.”

Seeing his indifferent demeanor, Mia could not help but laugh—a self-mocking, sorrowful laugh.

Biting her lip, she asked him with a smile, "How can you be so sure he wouldn't hurt me?"

"Because he likes you."' He spoke quietly, his face devoid of any emotion, as if nothing or no one in this place could stir a single feeling in him.

Mia felt like she was on the verge of breaking down.She grabbed his arm.

"What about you? You know he likes me, but do you know who I like? Jensen, can't you really see it? I like you, not him.It's only you that I like."

Jensen removed her hand and spoke gravely.

"Though Hayes is dark and unpredictable, he's incredibly good to you.It's a good thing that he likes you, and you can be happy with him.At the very least, you could live a decent life here."

"I don't want that!"

Mia growled.

"I've never wanted just a decent life.What I want is you, and a pure, untainted love."

Jensen stared at her, and after a while, he shook his head sadly.He scoffed.

"People like us don't deserve pure love, Mia.Don't be foolish.For us, the most important thing is to survive."

Mia took two steps back, gazing at him resentfully.She laughed through her tears.
