Chapter 1642 – Lantern Festival

Chapter 1642 – Lantern Festival

As the group crossed the mountain peak in silence, they headed towards the Jade Gate under admiring looks. Their figures slowly disappeared into the forest.

“Children from the Central Desolate!”

“Hehe, reincarnation is actually a skill!”

“What is there to be proud of? They are just slightly luckier than us!”

“Ssh! Be careful of what you say. If the people from the Divine Area hear you, there will be trouble,” said a young person beside them with a dark face.

The few who got reminded immediately shrunk back. They only breathed a sigh of relief when they confirmed that nothing was amiss. One of them chuckled bitterly, “I spoke too rashly, thank you for the reminder! Now that I have seen the Jade Gate as well as the cultivators from the Divine Area, there is nothing to regret!”

There was a pause before he placed his hands together respectfully, “From your accent, you must be a local. I wonder if you can recommend a good drinking place and have a drink with me?”

The person across from him hesitated for a while before nodding, “Okay.”

The few of them turned and left.

“These are cultivators from the West Desolate, alas, they are impressive.” Not far away, a young man wearing a black robe looked to be deeply moved.

Beside him, the woman’s mouth pulled up in a mocking smile, “Although that person was speaking slightly out of jealousy just now, he was right. Reincarnation is a complex thing. Since the Central Desolate can be known as the Divine Area, it must be because of that. Their prestige comes from their power.”

The servant girl beside her nodded. She has never questioned what was said. As long as the lady in her family said it, it must be right.

Qin Yu looked annoyed, “I did not say anything; why must you speak in such a cold and mocking tone towards me?”

Rourou hurrumphed and turned and walked towards the city at the foot of the mountain.

White Iris lagged behind. She seemed to hesitate before she whispered, “Marquis, while you have been busy cultivating…” Before she could finish, she was cut off, “Don’t talk so much, hurry and come here!”

Qin Yu had a realization as he caught up to her and smiled, “I heard that there will be a huge lantern festival in the city tonight. I am a bit tired from cultivating, so let’s go and check it out.”

Rourou was expressionless as she glared at White Iris. White Iris was looking down apologetically. Rourou put on a cold expression, “No.”

“Let’s go, let’s go. I have been cultivating for this entire journey and am about to suffocate. Please accompany me, Lady Rourou.”

Qin Yu spoke earnestly.

Rourou sneered but did not say anything. This meant that she agreed.

Qin Yu smiled before looking at White Iris.

Her head was lowered and she did not say anything.

In the night, the city was filled with lanterns. Flowery lanterns were hung up all over and the whole place was brighter than it was in the day.

A merchant with ample wealth and a solid backing spent lavishly to construct a gigantic flower lantern that turned, in order to attract people. It was beautiful.

Though Rourou’s expression was cold, her eyes shifted to it and she could not help but stare. When she noticed that Qin Yu was looking at her, she frowned and snorted before turning away.

Qin Yu smiled gently, “It is such a beautiful lantern. This is my first time seeing it. Let me have a few more looks. I don’t know when I will be able to see it again and I will regret it if I don’t appreciate it now.”

Hearing this, Rourou gritted her teeth and really wanted to pull and wrangle his ear!

Qin Yu spoke, “Let’s not be mad at each other. I know you have been accommodating to me for this entire journey. It is my fault. Let’s enjoy the lanterns tonight. After we enter the Jade Gate, I promise to go with you to the famous Ask Immortal Building to drink the amazing Immortal Brew.”

Rourou snorted before finally giving in. If only this brat could always be so discreet…yesterday, he had overheard a few cultivators talking and he had actually remembered such a small thing. This was why her mood improved.

Looking up at the huge flower lantern, Rourou’s eyes shimmered.

Qin Yu finally understood why Rourou particularly loved bright things. There was warmth in his eyes as he watched her.

Behind the two of them, White Iris observed them silently before lowering her head.

There were many people starting to move along the streets of the city. The performance troupe of the lantern festival was moving through and there were people on both sides clapping for them.

There were numerous beautiful ladies holding lanterns and dancing along with several handsome and tall men moving and pretending to hit something in a martial arts performance.

The people cheering were not only for them.

Initially, Rourou looked at them with interest. However, she soon started to frown as she glared at Qin Yu, “Are you watching this? Did you notice the third girl from the left? She is staring at you intently.”

Qin Yu looked up in shock as he pretended to look around, “Where? Why do I not see it. Don’t lie, how can someone pretty be attracted to me?”

He did not move as he continued to stare straight ahead.

Amidst the lantern performance troupe, there was a lady with long eyebrows who was biting her lip. She had lingered in front of that man for a while. Did he not understand what she meant? He was like a block of wood standing there. Was the woman beside him his wife? But from how far they were standing from each other, it did not seem so!

Taking a deep breath, the long-eyebrowed lady took a step forward. All the ladies in the troupe were chosen to represent the city and she had some pride. But as soon as she walked over, she felt her breath leave her and she felt lost.

The long-eyebrowed lady did not know what was going on with herself. She usually had very high standards. Why did she feel so emotionally affected by this man today? He looked ordinary!

She could not help but turn back to look at where the man was standing. She was surprised and almost made a mistake in her dance. They were gone. In the short time that she had taken a step forward, the man had not hesitated and left.

Biting her lip, the long-eyebrowed lady was frustrated and wanted to chase after him. Was he looking down on her? Did he really think that as ladies of the lantern parade, no one wanted them?!

As the bustling troupe continued moving, the crowd around them grew bigger and bigger.

Qin Yu and Rourou stood side by side and he pointed at a red flower lantern from a merchant, “They are too noisy and annoying. I think this quiet flower lantern looks better. And it is red! A joyous color!”

The shop assistant standing outside the shop had been annoyed that the troupe had caused more than half of the crowd to leave with them. As he heard this, he gave them a thumbs up, “My Lord, you are a smart man. You must have studied quite a bit!”

Qin Yu smiled and waved, “I have not read much, I only know a few words at most.”

The shop assistant was used to dealing with people and although he did not have any outstanding skills, he was observant. His smile grew wider as he looked at them, “Our shop has over a hundred years of history. We are a famous and reliable old shop. We have various treasures that are of good quality and are for sale at a low price. Would you like to head in to have a look?”

Qin Yu looked at the big red lantern at the door and smiled before nodding, “Okay, I was feeling a little tired from walking. Let’s have a look and have a cup of tea.”

Rourou nodded.

The shop assistant turned and shouted, “Welcome, distinguished guests!”
