120 Chapter 120 – The imposter
“Miss I’ve brought some refreshment,” a soft voice was heard from outside.
Feng stiffened up. ‘Is this person here to attack us!’
Feeling her chance, Lady Perlin looked at the door coldly. “We never ordered any refreshments. Please leave,”
“b-but honored lady... we... are a small establishment. we only wish to serve you well.”
“you’ve done well. Leave before I lose my patience.,” lady Perlin said in an unusually cold tone.
Feng looked up at her.
“Shh, its okay. Won’t let anyone in. it’s completely safe in here,” she assured him.
Feng was not the least bit convinced. The tasks have never been wrong. An incident will happen in the time frame the game system mentions.
She tightly clenched her fist. All along she had been fighting alongside Ethan and Aiden. Even an all-out battle with a few pirates seemed like an easy thing. But now that she was alone with lady Perlin and Elle she released her drawback.
.....
She was fucking weak!
Without Ethan and aided backing her up, her powers were so insignificant that she couldn’t even protect the people she loved.
Feng tightly closed her eyes. ‘What kind of rewards do I have left behind from my last task... think... think...’ as she thought about it a cold feeling filled her heart.
The last task was on the ship, it was when that stupid Clarina abandoned her to those pirates. But she didn’t get any rewards...
The system fucking overloaded and started to update.
Now that she thought about it the task was an emergency task, it did not show the task rewards or even gave her the proper task details. It only asked her to stay alive for three days.
‘So emergency tasks don’t have rewards? You shitty system, come out and answer,’
{‘system rewards cannot be compiled as the system crashed. The task was deemed incomplete. but since the system was at fault the task punishments will be excused only on this occasion. ‘}
‘Shit I knew you were trash,’ Feng took a deep breath and slowly got off the sofa.
Lady Perlin’s attention fell on her instantly.
Feng ignored her sight and picked up the candle stand.
“Careful dear,” she ran up to her and pulled the candle holder away from her hands. “This is too heavy for you to handle,”
“But we are going to be under attack soon. I want something to defend ourselves” Feng said in desperation.
Sighing lady Perlin pulled out a pendant from within her corset. it was a small blue sword-shaped pendant with a leather-like hilt. “This was given to me by my husband and was told only to use it in an utter emergency.” She held it up to her.
Feng looked at it carefully.
The updated system gave the prop status.
{Frost sword
weapon class – A
hit points- Anything hit with this sword will freeze within seconds.’}
Feng read the stats carefully. The stats window of the game as quite new to her. So, she did not understand what A class meant.
‘It must be a great weapon since the duke himself gave it to his wife’
Somehow her pounding heart slightly calmed down.
“We’ll do this then,” lady Perlin removed the chain and hand the pendant to her. “you hold on to this. our brave warrior will feel safe with this in his hand, right?”
“No! I want you to stay safe!” she gave it back to her.
For this lady Perlin just gave her a small smile. “Unlike my sister, I can’t use weapons. I’ve never had a penchant for violence. So, this gift was just beautiful jewelry to me. but with you, it can easily become a life-saving weapon. So, hold on to it.”
Feng gripped the small sword-shaped pendant tightly. ‘Having one weapon is better than Nothing.’ She nodded at her reluctantly. “I’ll return it after we reach home,”
“deal,” lady Perlin lifted her up and carried her over to the sofa. “Now rest. Your uncle will be here soon,”
Feng sat up straight, blinking. “no I am in charge of your weapons. So it’s implied that I must be the one to protect you both.” she held up the pendant. “can you teach me how to activate the blade,”
Lady Perlin took it from her and pricked her fingertip.
The small sword shone bright red. soon the small body of the sword turned into a bright red metal.
“it’s activated by my blood. Here you can use it now,”
As soon as Feng held it in her hand, the sword started to expand into a full-sized weapon. The bloody red sheen on the weapon shone brightly in the candlelight.
“it’s beautiful.”
“it’s called a frost sword. Be careful not to get nicked. It can really leave a very bad frost wound.” Lady Perlin warned her and then frowned. “Maybe I should have it for safekeeping.”
“no!” Feng held it in her arm very carefully. “I will be careful!”
Lady Perlin did not seem convinced. She had a careful watch on her. “Are you sure?”
“I am pretty sure.” Feng jumped off the cushion and started to practice her sword stance. Alvin and lady Hiliana had taught her a few stances when they were abord that ship. even Yubiri had taught her a few moves.
They were all self-defense moves.
Feng carefully practiced her moves.
‘Anyone comes our way. I will slice through them like a piece of pie... who dares hurt my aunt. ill see to it that they rot in hell’
There was a soft knock again on the door.
Feng froze, pointing her sword towards the door.
“dear,” a cold voice called them to form outside.
Feng looked towards lady Perlin. “is that uncle?”
“it sure sounds like him,” she ran to the door but she was not in a hurry to open it. “dear are you done with your work? You came quite early,”
“I was close by too meet mister Heligan. I met the coachman by chance.”
Feng went close to lady Perlin and held her skirt. The man ousted did sound like their uncle. But she was unsure. The world did not have a peak hole!!
Why? Because everyone in this world knew a bit of magic. But lady Perlin was an exception. Feng heard from lady Hiliana that lady Perlin was diagnosed with a rare disorder that blocked a few of her veins. She had an immense amount of powers but using that would hurt her physically and would even end up killing her. The least she can do is heat up water.
Lady Perlin looked at her and then at Elle. “I’ll check if this person really is your uncle.”
“Wait, aunt! ask something private.”
Lady Perlin was stumped. She bit her lips looking at the door conflicted. “Honey, do you remember what happened five years ago?”
“m-many things happened at that time. What do you want to know?”
Feng noticed the break in that person’s voice. Her vigilance went up a notch. She gestured for her aunt to get more specific.
Lady Perlin’s lips started to tremble. “About Rina.”
The other side of the door was silent.
“Honey?”
“oh Rina. I remember her. She is one of the socialites you are familiar with right,”
Lady Perlin’s eyes widened, immediately She lifted Feng and backed away from the door. Silently she piled up Elle as well and took them to the bedroom.
She placed them under the bed.
Feng grabbed her hand and crawled out.
“no...” she whispered with a soft smile. “we are playing a game of hide and seek okay. just... just stay here until your uncle comes for us,”
If it was a normal ten-year-old they would have gotten cheated by a childish excuse like this but not Feng. She knew what was going on.
The person on the other side was not duke Parlov.
Lady Perlin was trying to protect them.
Feng hurriedly crawled out from under the bed and tugged at her skirt. “we have to work together. Don’t underestimate me because I’m young. I have fought fifty Pirates before and won!”
That was an exaggeration. All she did was hid and run... and it kind of helped take them down.
Feng tightly gripped the sword in hand. “Stay behind me aunt, I’ll take care of this guy,”
Lady Perlin did not do as she was told. she stepped up close to the door. “Honey the kids... they are all asleep... We... we can have some alone time,” she whispered with a bright blush on her face.
For a second Feng was stunned.
Then she realized what she was doing.
aunty Perlin was trying to get them sometime.
“Yes, definitely honey. Open the door. Let me see your beautiful face,”
.....
“Darling I’m so shy... I’m just in my corset...” she whispered cupping her pale cheek.
“oh, what a sight that would be,”
Hearing this Feng grimaced. She could never imagine her uncle talking like this. ‘ughh It’s so cringy... why is this man using his uncle’s voice so unjustly? It’s disgusting.’
“Open the door dear~” he once again knocked but this time the knocks were quite insistent.
“What are you doing? Just break in and do the job you were paid for,” another female voice came from outside. It was exactly the person who brought in refreshments before.
Feng paled slightly. ‘Darn we are in so much trouble... how can we get out of this mess....’
