Chapter 37: Chapter 37 – Promises
Lady Hiliana watched the young mage Yubiri carefully. At just fifteen, this young man is deemed to be the strongest mage in the entire kingdom. Crossing him would become their doom, but thinking about her newly adopted daughter’s safety, she wanted to keep him away.
‘But things are beyond saving. The look in his eyes .... its love. How did he even come to love this little girl? From what I know of Feng is just a maid’s daughter. Was this maid working in Yubiri’s castle?’ so many questions swam inside lady Hiliana’s mind.
‘If I can’t keep him away, I have to make sure that he protects my kids. But is it okay to let him close?’ lady Hiliana closed her eyes for a second and thought of the pros and cons. Finally, her mind came to a conclusion.
“Great mage, I would allow you to meet my daughter...”
“I am forever thankful for your grace.” the young mage stood up and bowed to her.
“But..... I have a favour to ask of you in return.”
Yubiri sat down and adjusted his coat. “Name anything,”
.....
Lady Hiliana uncrossed her leg and sat down like a proper lady. “I would like you to promise me three things. First, you should not approach my daughter on your own.” She paused, checking his reactions.
Yubiri watched her with a serious glint in his eyes. “I shall accept this request. But if Feng approaches me on her own, you shroud not stop her,”
“Fair enough. Secondly, you should always protect her. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should stay close. So don’t use that as an excuse to approach her.” she said with a sigh.
“Definitely! I will protect her even if you say otherwise.” Yubiri sat at the edge of his chair anxiously waiting for her next request.
Seeing his reactions, lady Hiliana softly smiled. “Last and not the least, I want you to do a soul image locking spell on my kids. All of my kids, including the twins.”
Yubiri frowned at this request. If it was for Feng, he would have gladly done this favour but for the twins.... he hesitated a bit.
“I can feel you distaste from here, young mage. I am guessing it’s your hatred for the twins,” lady peered at him with her brows raised.
“So you knew, yet you let them get close to Feng.” Yubiri frowned. This lady in front of him knew that the twins were not in fact kids, yet she let Feng stay close to them! Clenching his fist, he glanced at her steadily. “Might I know the reason why?”
“It’s simple. She loves them and they love her back.” she smiled happily.
“Love? That’s bullshit!! She doesn’t know that they are foxes in sheep’s clothing,” Yubiri snapped. “Feng would probably not even be aware when one is flirting with her. Yet you let them stay with her and even sleep with her!! She is ten!!”
The lady calmly picked her teacup and sipped a little. “It’s because Feng Mei is an adult. And as an adult she can make her own decision,”
Yubiri’s heart thudded loudly. “You saw her soul image too?”
“Yes, the first moment I saw her.” lady Hiliana nostalgically looked at the huge painting hanging near the window. “She looks just like her. Don’t you see the resemblance?”
Yubiri glanced at the painting. I fact the lady in the painting looked just like how Feng used to look back in their world. Even her dark hair, doe-like eyes and her small lips, looked just like the real Feng Mei.
Yubiri stood up and nervously touched the painting. “She does..... the resemblance is uncanny.” he smiled a little.
“Ahem, please refrain from touching my daughter’s painting.” Lady Hiliana glared at him.
Yubiri rolled his eye and sat back down. “Who else knows about her soul image?”
“My grandson,” she pointed to Alvin who stood silently in the corner, “and my granddaughter. She has a splendid gift of the third eye that can see beyond. She instantly saw Feng’s resemblance with her mother and clung to her like a little octopus.” The lady chuckled lovingly.
On the other hand, Yubiri glared at her. Too many people were close to Feng now, which made him slightly alienated.
“Enough. I agree with all your requests. Now take me to her.”
“Gladly. Alvin, take him to your aunt’s room,” she instructed her grandson to show him the way.
Bowing to her, Yubiri followed after the young man.
