Chapter 29: Sense of Direction
Was I an adrenaline junkie? Not in my last life.
Even though I knew I would die with one wrong move. Maybe it was due to the threat of death that I realized something crucial. As a fan, how could I not laugh?
I was happy to come to this amazing world! Fighting against monsters that can destroy mountains! The magical energy that was Ord, and so many people with their Special Powers. I only had this realization after coming close to death.
I want to live in this beautiful world with amazing-
My thoughts halted when Agons demonic aura rose high enough to touch the clouds. It felt like needles pricking at every pore of my body.
T -T -Theres n -no way we can survive against this, Seis teeth kept chattering as he spoke.
Okay, this guy was getting annoying. I was already scared enough. The last thing I wanted to be reminded of was how fucked I was.
Well, shounen manga scenarios require shounen solutions.
I picked Sei by his collar and punched him in the face. Do you think you will be able to accomplish your goals by acting like a coward?
Sei fell to the ground due to the punch, and I didnt have the leisure to keep beating the shit out of him. I had to keep an eye on our dear protagonist before he went and did something he would regret once he returned to his senses.
"Once in a thousand years talent? Dont screw with me! Being afraid of his own shadow! All I can see is a once in a thousand years piece of shit!" I muttered under my breath, just enough for him to hear.
Even though I wasnt a Blaster, I could sense the terrifying aura coming toward us. I didnt have the luxury to comfort Sei.
Until now, I had been playing it safe and could predict the first attack. The second, Agon made a mistake in that instinctual state and went mid-air, losing almost all of his advantages.
Both times, it probably gave the illusion that I could keep up with Agon. But it was the opposite. It was just a fluke.
Even though he might be fighting on instinct alone, he wouldnt go for the same attack that failed twice. Also, even if the attack by some miracle couldnt kill me in one shot, touching his toxic aura would kill me.
Well, worse comes to worst. I will run away. Im not the main character here. I was just the mob guy.
Youre right, Sei interrupted my thoughts.
I was about to run away. But he got up and stood straight. His gaze was filled with a look full of resolve. Whats the worst that can happen? We will die? Everyone will die eventually, so whats the use of worrying about something inevitable?
What? This was the second time punching someone had worked. Does my fist have some kind of superpower to stop people from whining?
It was nice that he stopped whining and got some character growth. But he was out of Ord, and I couldnt take another attack.
In the distance, trees got ripped apart at breakneck speed. The sounds of snakes hissing got closer. It was like a horror movie.
Sei took a deep breath, and with great difficulty he squeezed some Ord out. He looked like he was forcing himself to sweat the Ord out. At least he wasnt using his lifespan like a certain someone.
A mirror formed and moved through the air within a two-meter radius around Sei. He gave me a thumbs-up. But he was all sweaty and breathing heavily, so it didnt inspire any confidence. Lets get on this thing.
He turned the mirror around, facing the ground, and jumped on the mirrors back. He was using his created object as a surfing board. This was something he would have come up with in the far future.
Since his body was still touching the mirror, he would be able to control it easier. Without questioning it too much, I got on it.
We didnt have time to dawdle!
Despite that, the mirror we rode on rose so slowly that it was almost like a snail. While Agon was only getting closer.
"So, can this thing go any slower? I might fall."
"Your sarcasm isn't appreciated at a time like this." Sei retorted. But he still explained the reason. "I'm trying not to waste Ord. It isn't like controlling the movements of my created mirrors is what this ability is about."
Controlling Ord out of your body was more of a Blaster thing. His affinity for Creator might be high, but for Blaster it was less than 1%. So he can't use such a thing.
In the future, he would be able to move his mirrors because of his half-demon side.
"ROARRRRR!!" When Agon arrived, he noticed us and roared at the sky. The winds were strong and rocked us a bit. But we were high enough not to get overturned.
"So what now?" I asked Sei. At the same time, lying down in the mirror. I knew it was a lame thing to admit in a shounen world. But I was a bit afraid of heights. We were floating in a shaky mirror, so it wasn't like I had the safest platform.
When fighting Agon, I didn't have time to think about the heights as I was thrown around. In a way, that was better.
"We just wait. See if Agon will get angrier." Sei smirked. There was something in his eyes. He was confident.
After a couple more roars and seeing that he couldn't do anything, Agon pointed his hands at us.
Spheres of evil energy formed, and he started thrusting his hands at us. Shooting those dark balls of energy at breakneck speed.
Sei wouldn't be able to dodge with his ability. But neither of us was worried. As the bells hit the mirror, they were absorbed in it. This was a Mirror of Absorption we were lying on.
As long as the attack could fit in the mirror, it didnt matter how strong it was.
After a dozen seconds of Agon repeatedly shooting at us. Sei moved the mirror down, and our raging protagonist jumped at us as soon as we were within a distance.
Seems like he hadn't learned the lesson the previous time.
Sei closed his eyes and created one last mirror. This time it was the size of a basketball. But since Agon was mid-air, he couldnt dodge what came next.
"How about a taste of your own medicine!" Sei yelled out and released a blast of energy from his mirror. It was all the energy he had gathered from Agon as he had tried to hit us. But this was blasted all at once.
The mirror was created just out of arm's length away from Agon. It was close to point-blank. Due to the mirror's small size, the attack became pressurized, like putting a finger on a hose. The pressure came out stronger than normal.
"ROAGGGRRRRR!!" Agon's roar sounded almost like a scream of pain as he smashed into a mountain in the distance. Creating an explosion that obliterated the mountaintop. A mushroom cloud of smoke formed.
Even though the explosion was far away, the winds hit us and toppled the mirror. I grabbed Sei by the back of his shirt, as he was too tired to do anything.
We landed on the ground by crashing through a couple of branches, which cushioned our fall.
"Do you think he will come back here?" Sei asked. It seemed like he didn't have the energy to get up.
"Ah yes, a raging monster with a good sense of direction," I said. Trying to lighten up the mood. I wasnt sure whether Agon would come back.
"Your sarcasm really isn't needed at a time like this," despite saying that, Sei had a smile on his face.
"Well, even if he finds his way back. What's he going to do? Find us?" I shrugged while getting up and leaning against a tree. "Raging monster with a good sense of direction which is very good at hide and seek doesn't sound right."
It does sound kind of right. Since the monster sealed inside Agon was a snake, they were top predators. But worrying about it by now was useless. Not like we could do anything about it.
After about half an hour, neither Sei nor I said a word to each other. He was sleeping. The sun was peeking over the horizon, showing that the night was over.
There was a swishing sound in the wind, and an old man came. He had bandages covering the part of his head above his nose. Riding on his iconic smoke cloud.
He also had an unconscious Agon on what seemed like a smoke coffin. There wasnt any evil energy coming out of him anymore.
The headmaster had arrived!
Relief washed all over me. I could finally relax. The pain of my broken ribs and the taste of the blood grew fainter.
It dawned on me just how tired I was, and felt like a mountain was pulling down at my eyelids.
"Finally," those were the last words I said. Before darkness and sweet unconsciousness claimed me.
Today was too damn stressful
