Vol. 8 - Chapter 398 - D-rank Exam Preparation, Opponent, and Money!

D-rank promotion exam's details and opponent was decided.

According to what I heard, guilds swarmed in droves when the academy put up the recruitment for the opponent, though I was not privy to the details. But it seems like rumors were that ‹Eden› was headhunting for the members through this promotion exam.

No, of course I haven't thought about it, but...on another note, this could certainly be an opportunity. And since there were already some people intending to hope on the board, it surely wouldn’t hurt to check them out, right?

The format of guild battle was ‹Capture the Castle› ‹10 Members Battle› ‹Square Field (Obstacle Ver.)›. Also, our opponent was another guild in charge of dealing with the D-rank promotion exam.

Unlike the mock guild battle with teachers at E-rank, the D-rank promotion exam involved quite a lot of members. So, the academy would have students working as examiners for the duration. Or you could say in the form of a part-time quest.

To put it in short, the academy would release a quest and the guild who accepted it would take the role of becoming the challenger guild's opponent and test out their abilities. And when the said challenger guild's strength was admitted as equivalent to D-rank, they would be promoted.

Well, just to make sure, the result of whether the guild was worthy of rank-up or not was in the hand of the teacher playing as referee. Since students benefit from becoming examiners for their future, the academy actively utilizes this system.

Also, the guild chosen by the academy tends to be one of the best and trusted ones since their main role was to play as examiner in the promotion exam. After all, they couldn’t let anyone take the role. Besides, guilds also receive merit scores from the academy so they do take the job very seriously. A carrot dangling in front of them to make sure they do the job properly till the end. Quite a great system if I say so.

Cut to the chase, our opponent was D-rank guild ‹Flash of Flowers›. I seemed to have heard the name of the guild but I couldn't recall where. Well, whatever.

The time was Friday, and the promotion exam would start at 5:00 p.m. in the No.6 arena. Just in the range I guess. I should be able to complete my role as a provisional lecturer and even hold a short Q&A session.

Our preparation was going on as expected. Like putting up our equipment etc. And currently, I was visiting the ‹Emblem Seal Sticker› located at the C road following one of such arrangements.

"Marie-senpai~. I want the ‹Dash Boot› by Thursday, do you think it's possible~?"

"Who do you you're speaking to? But of course. I will have the order ready by Thursday after class."

"Amazing, Marie-senpai. I knew I could always rely on you."

"But don't you think you need to act more prudently? Just what was with that mountain of ‹Battle Wolf (3rd form)› materials?"

"Hahaha! This was the result of hard work."

"And I am saying you have far removed yourself from the norm in your hard work~. I am not going into details and this also helped out our guild a lot. But do you know how much this all increases our work load?"

"Everyone must have been letting out delightful squeals, right? I will come with even more next week!"

"Just so you know, I will buy them in bulk if you bring in too much! But do pass up recipes if you chance upon them~. I will make equipment for you at half-price."

As expected of Marie-senpai, a shrewd merchant. She's skilled in both business and getting her customer on the board. Well, I do want to avoid selling them at a deflated price so we would be keeping our stock stored on our side.

I really need to acquire ‹Item Box› one of these days, seriously. There were QP we could use to install better facilities in our guild room. Well, deflation was never a thing in the ‹Dungeon Activity› when selling them, but reality was different. In the end, that just means we need to store some of the stock somehow.

Alright, that’s enough about the boss materials. Next was ‹Gold Chest›. I had planned to sell the items from Int-low that were guaranteed to fetch a high price. Intermediate level equipments were a must for advanced dungeons. So unnecessary items would be sold, while those that don't get a good price would become Hannah's offering.

Speaking of, the intermediate equipment were transact at a high price since int-high was the highest dungeon people in the reality had set foot on. The items of ‹Gold Chest› especially were sold at a crazy price.

In most cases, such expensive equipment would go to auction. We have been earning quite an income through that method, Unfortunately, we couldn't just dump our drop whenever we wanted to. E-rank guild could only put one item in a single auction (held monthly), and two items in the net auction (held weekly). So, any surplus amount was basically sold to Marie-senpai wholesale.

"Alright, this is it. These are the drops from ‹Gold Chest› of Int-low, and I want to sell them all."

"Woah, great~. Thanks a bunch as always~."

There were a total of 7 items that I planned to sell. Well, they were from ‹Gold Chest› but ‹Eden› didn't need them any longer so I decided to sell given the opportunity. We would soon be stepping foot in the Int-high so my plan was to gather our equipment there.

There was no such thing as a lot of Mir. We gotta earn what we can at the moment.

Marie-senpai vanished inside the store with the items with an excited expression and came back with an appraisal sheet after a short while.

"What do you think about it? Though, you will have to wait a few days for the ‹Battle Wolf› amount."

"Woah, that's hella lot of money~. Are you sure about purchasing those items at this price?"

The appraisal sheet that Marie-senpai brought showed the appraisal of the ‹Gold Chest› items I just handed to her, and the figures were about twice as high compared to in the game. Some were even close to three times the value.

"Of course. This is a rather fair price, and I assure you that our guild isn't making any loss in this deal. There are quite a lot of 2nd years that covet them. And guess, due to whom?"

Hmm, that's quite a cryptic way to speak, but I didn't have any guess what she meant by. This was real ‹Dungeon Activity› where items from intermediate ‹Gold Chest› were sought after. So their value was quite different compared to the game. I guess she meant that, maybe.

"Alright, I understand. Please deposit the money here."

"Ookey~. Also, I will also buy equipment from ‹Silver Chest› at high price right now if you have surplus stock. Feel free to bring them."

"Great. I really appreciate it. I'll bring a lot soon."

I signed on the appraisal sheet, took out my ‹Smartphone› and put it in front of Marie-senpai. She also brought out her ‹Smartphone›, put it over mind and with ring~, the money transfer was completed.

‹Eden› had gotten another huge fund for its operation, Mhwahahaha!

Our preparation continued as we completed the necessary task while also taking the chance to increase the guild's assets for the future. Soon, we were pretty much ready for the D-rank exam.
