Chapter 19: The Farming
?
Seconds earlier, amidst the battlefield, the royal guard's captain, Vandar, shifted his gaze at the Demon General Telus who was engaged in combat with an unknown force. It wasn't part of the royal guards or the adventurers.
They were using these odd weapons that shoot projectiles and it produced a loud noise that could penetrate one's eardrum. Yet they were accustomed to it.
One thing that he observed was this one particular person who was wielding a larger weapon than the others. When it fired, it tore a hole in the middle of the Demon King General's body, and he threw something into that very hole, causing a massive explosion.
From that moment, the Demon King General faltered, and then his form suddenly vanished as if he retreated from the battlefield.
"Those warriors...who are they," Vandar gasped in amazement. He had never witnessed a mere human group going against one of the most formidable and terrifying generals of the Demon King.
With Telus gone, the remaining monsters began to scatter in disarray. They retreated, but the royal guards and the adventurers wouldn't let them escape so easily.
"Don't let them get away!" Vandar yelled, his voice booming across the battlefield. "Chase them down! Don't leave a single one standing!"
The royal guards and adventurers surged forward with renewed vigor, their weapons glinting in the moonlight as they pursued the fleeing monsters. Vandar himself led the charge, his sword held high as he cut down any demon foolish enough to cross his path.
Vincent and his team, having momentarily caught their breath, joined in the chase. "Okay, let's reap some gold and experience points!" Vincent called out, rallying his team.
"Oorah!" The special forces cheered and then fired their M4 Carbines at the fleeing goblins, hobgoblins, and kobolds.
Every burst of gunfire brought down more of the retreating monsters. Notifications chimed in Vincent's system, marking each kill and the rewards they generated.

A new notification popped up.

"Keep pushing forward!" Vincent shouted, rallying his team. "Let's clear out every last one of these monsters!"
"Oorah!" The special forces echoed his command, their spirits high as they continued to fire at the retreating goblins, hobgoblins, and kobolds. The sound of gunfire filled the air, a relentless barrage that decimated the enemy ranks.

[Experience points: +200, +400, +250, +500]
Finally, the battlefield fell silent. The last of the goblins, hobgoblins, and kobolds lay dead, their bodies littering the ground. Vincent took a moment to catch his breath, the adrenaline of
battle still coursing through his veins.
[Gold: 166,200 gold coins]
[Experience points: 20,150/22,885]
"Oh...I think that's the last of them, the others are still chasing," Vincent said, lowering his
rifle and scanning the battlefield.
The special forces regrouped. They had fought hard and reaped the rewards, but the night wasn't over yet. Vincent glanced at his status one more time, satisfied with their progress.
[Gold: 166,200 gold coins]
[Experience points: 20,150/22,885]
"So if I were to need a lot of gold coins, I just have to locate a breeding ground of those monsters and keep farming them," Vincent mused aloud.
[Emergency Quest completed!]
[Objective: Defeat Telus and his forces to protect the capital of Eldoria.]
[The host didn't kill Telus but managed to send him off. For that, the system will make an
exception!]
[Rewards: 10,000 experience points, 100,000 gold coins, and a Wheel of Fortune ticket.]
Vincent felt a rush of satisfaction as the notifications chimed in his mind, marking the completion of their quest. He quickly checked his updated status.
[Gold: 266,200 gold coins]
[Experience points: 30,150/22,885]
[Your level has risen to 8!]
[Experience points: 30,150/34,936]
"Oh...I forgot about that emergency mission," Vincent sighed. It was the truth, they never
killed Telus but chased him off the battlefield.
Captain Vandar approached them, his eyes wide with admiration and curiosity. "Your intervention turned the tide of this battle," Vandar said, bowing slightly. "Who are you, and
where do you come from?"
Vincent looked up and he didn't notice him coming closer.
"We are nothing but volunteers," Vincent answered.
"Well...you volunteers have earned yourselves a place of honor," Vandar said. "Eldoria owes
you a great debt. You should come with us so that we can celebrate."
Vincent didn't hesitate. "Fine by us."
