Chapter 56: Retaliation of Ursa
?
Nick and Sam watched as the battalion of reinforcements surged onto the beach. Tanks rolled forward, their cannons swiveling to target the remaining demon forces. Infantry soldiers spread out in formation, taking cover and opening fire on the advancing monsters. The sound of gunfire, explosions, and shouted orders filled the air, making them feel electrified and joined in the battle.
Ursa, undeterred by the growing human forces, continued his relentless assault. His eyes burned with rage as he focused on the Viper helicopters still circling above. With another mighty roar, he picked up a fallen tree and hurled it at one of the helicopters. The pilot narrowly avoided the projectile, but it was clear that Ursa's fury was only intensifying.
"Shadow Actual, this is Viper One. Target is extremely resilient. We need additional firepower to bring him down," the pilot reported, his voice tense but controlled.
Vincent's voice crackled over the radio. "Understood, Viper One. Viper Two and Three, engage the target with everything you've got. Ground units provide support."
The two additional Viper helicopters swooped in, their weapons systems locking onto Ursa. They unleashed a barrage of AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and M197 20mm cannon fire. The concentrated firepower created a series of explosions that enveloped Ursa, obscuring him from view in a cloud of smoke and debris.
On the ground, the Challenger tanks and infantry advanced steadily. The tanks' cannons fired relentlessly, sending powerful shells into the demon ranks. The infantry moved as their rifles spitted out a steady stream of bullets that cut through the monster horde. Not only that, the M2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle also joined in the fray with their bushmasters drumming through the air.
Infantry units were also joining the fray with their M777 howitzers firing horizontally, aiming to disable the ships that were grounded on the beach. The deafening blasts of the howitzers echoed across the battlefield, their shells tearing through the hulls of the ships, ensuring no more reinforcements could join the fray from the sea.
Amid the chaos, the smoke began to clear, revealing Ursa still standing, battered but unbroken. His obsidian armor was riddled with cracks, and his massive form swayed slightly from the relentless bombardment. But his eyes, burning with unyielding rage, remained fixed on the Viper helicopters.
"He's still standing! How is he still standing?" Nick shouted, his voice barely audible over the din of battle.
"Keep firing! We have to bring him down!" Sam replied, his determination unwavering.
The Viper helicopters adjusted their positions, preparing for another assault. "Shadow Actual, this is Viper Two. Target is still active. Engaging again," came the calm report.
"Roger that, Viper Two. Take him down," Vincent responded, his voice steady.
The helicopters unleashed another wave of Hellfire missiles and cannon fire, the sky lighting up with the explosive force of their attack. Ursa staggered under the barrage, but he refused to fall. With each step, he seemed to grow more furious, his roars shaking the very ground.
Then suddenly, the air seemed to shook as a demonic aura wrapped around him and coagulated in front of his gaping maw then released a roar so powerful it reverberated across the island. The roar carried with it a shockwave of dark energy, rippling through the air and ground. The Viper helicopters above wobbled violently, their pilots struggling to maintain control as their systems flickered and alarms blared.
"Mayday, mayday! We're losing control!" Viper One's pilot shouted, fighting to stabilize the helicopter as it spun erratically.
On the ground, the Challenger tanks and M2 Infantry Fighting Vehicles ground to a halt, their electrical systems overloaded and temporarily disabled by the dark energy. Soldiers, caught off guard by the sudden disruption, stumbled and covered their ears, trying to block out the deafening sound.
Nick and Sam, feeling the ground shake beneath them, exchanged a horrified glance. The power of Ursa's roar was unlike anything they had encountered before.
"Shadow Actual, this is Watchtower 04," Sam called into the radio. "Shadow Actual?"
It was no use; the radio was dead. The roar's shockwave had knocked out communications. "You infuriating insects!" Ursa cursed. "You have brought shame on my kind, but I will show you the true meaning of fear!"
With a roar, Ursa charged forward, his massive form barreling through the ranks of soldiers. His giant ax swung wildly, cutting through the air. The first line of soldiers was caught off guard, their screams echoing as Ursa's ax cleaved through them, sending blood and limbs flying.
Nick and Sam watched in horror as Ursa continued his rampage. He smashed through the infantry lines, leaving a trail of devastation in his wake. The tanks and vehicles, temporarily disabled by the dark energy, were unable to respond in time. Ursa reached the first Challenger tank, his hands gripping the massive vehicle and effortlessly flipping it over. The tank exploded on impact, the blast sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
"Fall back! Fall back!"
Ursa turned his attention to the second Challenger tank. With a single swing of his ax, he struck the tank's turret, the powerful blow crumpling the metal like paper. The tank erupted in flames, the explosion lighting up Ursa's savage grin.
Amidst the chaos, one of the Viper helicopters, still struggling to regain control, descended dangerously close to the ground. Ursa saw the opportunity and leaped into the air, his powerful legs propelling him high enough to grab the helicopter's landing skids. The pilot, desperately trying to regain control, could do nothing as Ursa swung his ax into the fuselage. The helicopter lurched violently, its systems failing as it began a rapid, uncontrolled descent. Ursa roared in triumph as the helicopter crashed to the ground, exploding in a fiery ball of debris. The soldiers nearby were thrown back by the blast.
"Shadow Actual, we need backup! We can't hold him!" Nick shouted into the radio, even though he knew it was useless. The dark energy had disrupted all communications. "We need to retreat!" Sam shouted, grabbing Nick's arm and pulling him back. Ursa, undeterred by the destruction he had caused, continued his rampage. He swung his massive ax with brutal force, cutting through the ranks of soldiers who tried to stop him. Nick and Sam scrambled to find cover behind a partially destroyed M2 Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The remaining soldiers were trying to regroup, but the dark energy had caused too much confusion and disruption. The tanks and vehicles were slowly coming back online, but it was clear they needed more time.
"Shadow Actual, we need reinforcements! Ursa is tearing through our lines!" Nick yelled again into his radio, hoping against hope that the signal would go through this time.
To their relief, a crackling response came through. "This is Shadow Actual. Hold on tight, I have something big here."
