Reverse Apocalypse: The Devil's Revenge

Chapter 44 Event

Chapter 44 Event

?"Zombies? For real?" Olivia mumbled under her breath. She was baffled and neither Liam nor the others could avoid feeling just like her.

They were taken aback and had gone a little numb at the sheer uncountable number of ragged figures with terrifying bodies slowly advancing toward them. Their skin was a sickly gray that stretched over their flesh and bones. Some had open wounds, gaping holes that revealed bits of muscle, flesh, and bone below. Their lifeless dead eyes were reddish in color and it looked like they were gazing at nothing as they paced forward.

As the first zombies entered the large plaza in front of the gymnasium, their grunts and groans filled the air. The sound bounced off the buildings all around, further amplifying it and they carried the sensation of death and dread with it. They mindlessly lurched forward, drawn to the living they sensed in front of them.

The ground beneath them was flooded with water and the heavy downpour hit them, masking the smell of decay and death that was supposed to hang heavy in the air.

Liam who had his Devil's Eyes Soultrait triggered could only sigh heavily at the sight that unfolded in front of him. He saw that some of the zombies had bits of flesh hanging down their mouths, providing clear evidence of their recent last meal.

As the horde was slowly making its way through the plaza, the natives around Liam began to shudder. There were not only human-like zombies but also existences they had never seen before. They were somehow a cross between animals and humans that had turned into zombies and possessed the traits everyone knew from movies, comics, and games. It was just that they seemed to be mutations between different races and possibly even humans.

Even Liam had a hard time figuring out what kind of existence some of those beings were. He could only tell one thing for sure; the situation was quickly spiraling out of control!

As if the Arcane System wanted to remind him about the existence of his customized mission, Liam received a sudden notification that popped up in the form of an emerald holographic screen.

However, he was not the only one who received this notification. Everyone inside the gymnasium and the few natives who had chosen to follow him received the exact same notification as Liam.

[A Special Event has been created as the result of the living gathering within the Grande Gymnasium in the Jula Valley. Stop the Berserk Plague from spreading!

?Obliterate the Plague?–Event Mission–

?Description?Plagued Monsters have infiltrated the Sera Hospital, expanding their numbers exponentially. Stop the deadly Berserk Plague from spreading to reassure the continued survival of the inhabitants of Jura Valley and the native humans within the Grande Gymnasium.

?Given task?Survive 30 Minutes to fulfill the basic requirement of the mission.

Annihilate the Plagued Monsters– Arcanium will be rewarded according ot the number of Plagued Monsters killed (Max. 5000 Plagued Monsters will be counted for the additional Arcanium)

?Reward?Survival, Weapon of Choice(Black Steel)

?Possible additional Rewards? Customized GIft according to the contribution!?

Remark: The Berserk Plague is not a normal Zombification Virus. Causes high blood pressure and increased adrenaline output in the body of the zombified being! Can be killed by beheading!]

Liam stared blankly at the notification, and he couldn't help but smile wryly.

"This system is really…helpful."

Others might feel desperate by looking at the Special Event, but Liam considered it an opportunity. He could clearly tell that the situation was in his favor. His mind was rattling and he knew that he could flee the moment things would get out of hands.

However, running away was the last thing he had planned to do right now, specifically after he deduced the important pieces of information provided by the Arcane System.

Most might be unable to figure out the information they were given by the notification of the Event Mission. Thus, it was fortunate that Liam was different.

'There are currently 5000 Plagued Monsters so I can receive an exceptional treasure by being the sole contributor in the annihilation of the Plagued Monster Army with my Arcanium. Furthermore, I was given clear instructions about the Plagued Monster's weaknesses…how much more do I need to annihilate them and to show these idiotic natives that I am too far ahead for them to catch up?!'

Liam's smile was growing brighter the more he thought about it. It didn't matter that Plagued Monsters could be killed by beheading them. This was a piece of information that had no actual use for him.

To others, it might not be important to know that the Plagued Monsters had high blood pressure and an increased adrenaline output, but it was the most important for Liam.

This piece of information was also the reason why he wanted to go all out, just to show the native kids that they were too weak in comparison to him. And, of course, he wanted to make as many gains as possible since he had to protect the natives inside the gymnasium due to his customized mission, either way.

"Let's continue with our discussion a little later?" Liam asked without a change of expression as he added, "I think it's about time that I showed you what you guys will face while traveling with me!"

He rushed forward and reached for his Casket of Trickery with both hands. In an instant, Liam retrieved more than ten Black Tarthear Needles from the Casket of Trickery. He triggered the needles' effect by inserting Arcane Power inside them before he released them at the closest Plagued Monsters.

There was no need to aim precisely, or to do anything special for his Black Tarthear Needles to hit their target. Exerting his full strength in the throw, the needles flew over fifty meters and they hid their target precisely.

The Plagued Monsters that were hit by the Black Tarthear Needles slowed down in an instant. They blocked the path of the other Plagued Monsters, which drastically reduced the pace with which everyone moved toward him.

However, Liam didn't really pay much heed to that. His hands had returned to the Casket of Trickery, retrieving more than a dozen needles which he inserted with Arcane Power before he threw them at the Plagued Monster Army once again.

The Plagued Monsters hit by his needles slowed down and the first set of notifications of their deaths appeared in the corner of his eyes.

'It's not the best poison, but certainly good to use against those things!'
