Chapter 49 Surge Of Power
Chapter 49 Surge Of Power
?While he thought of an answer to her question, he fidgeted around with the black steel wrist protector that had been his choice of weapon from the available rewards.
He put the black steel wrist protector on and inserted some Arcane Power into it.
The design of the wrist protector was simple yet functional. It wrapped around the wrist without causing any discomfort no matter how much Liam moved his arm.
However, the true beauty of the black steel wrist protector lay in its ability to transform. With a flick of the wrist and the injection of Arcane Power, it unfolded and expanded to cover the entire forearm in a seamless notion. The transformation was effortless and it made Liam feel as if the shield was merely an extension of his own body.
The small shield was matt black in color and it had a small design of lines etched on its surface. Liam presumed that it has been chiseled from a single piece of black steel and that an expert craftsman worked wonders on that piece in coordination with a great Inscriber.
By transforming his right hand into a claw, he tested the strength of the shield. He quickly noticed that the Arcane Power imbued into the shield was drained as soon as he began using it. That was just like he had expected.
The shield was small but it was more than enough to pack a few punches given its compact size. It could be used for close combat as well as long-distance defensive measures, and he could carry it around all the time in the form of a somewhat stylish wristband or bracelet without attracting any attention.
Liam nodded in satisfaction before he mumbled to himself.
"Not too strong but not too bad either. The Black Steel Wrist Shield is pretty decent."
When he was done inspecting his new gadget, Liam switched his attention to Olivia once again.
"The answer you're looking for is pretty simple. Haltan, or what you call Earth, was the strongest of the Ten Great Realms. Haltan's greatest advantage was that it is the only Realm that connects to the other Nine Realms. This advantage that brought Haltan great prosperity in the Era of the Ancients was also what caused its downfall.
I do not know everything about the Era of the Ancients but I know that Haltan was banished from the grace of the Arcane Power and that it was sealed a very long time ago, rather than destroyed. As for the reason why the Nine Realms didn't destroy Haltan after they created the Great Unification, I do not know much either.
Now that Haltan is about to regain its former power, the Nine Realms want to get their hands on every bit of territory they can procure on Haltan. After all, Haltan is connected to all Realms, which opens up great opportunities.
If you want to know more about the Ten Great Realms and the Era of the Ancients, get stronger and find out more. My knowledge is not that vast!"
There was a lot more Liam could tell Olivia but he didn't feel like spending several hours going into detail to educate her. The library in his mother's domain was overflowing with parchments that revolved around the Era of the Ancients, the creation of the Arcane System, and much more.
Apparently, the Arcane System was a creation and brainchild of Haltan's powerhouses. In exchange for sealing Haltan's Original Source of Arcane Power, they were given the opportunity to plant a device inside Haltan's sentience to make sure that it could be preserved over the course of time alongside the Original Source of Arcane Power.
The device evolved the sentience of Haltan into the Arcane System, or so the legends said. Liam was pretty sure that most legends were nonsense and folktales, but there had to be a tiny trace of truth behind all the lies and exaggerations, otherwise, the Arcane System wouldn't have come into existence.
The more Liam thought about it, the bigger the mystery behind Haltan, the 10th Great Realm. Liam was knowledgeable for his age, but he was far from being wise. His biggest advantage was that he had participated in wars since he was seven years old. Sometimes, his combat prowess might not suggest that he had been fighting in wars for over a decade but that was mostly due to the change of his Soultrait and the lack of strength he felt very often recently.
The lack of strength was evident since his stats had been way below the average of an ordinary human being when he was mercilessly dumped onto Haltan. It was only obvious that he had never felt as weak as before!
Even now, he could barely be considered to have stats on par with the average native from Haltan. That was what Liam gauged after he had analyzed a few Natives for a while.
Fortunately, he wouldn't feel weak for long anymore!
"Claim the Customized Gift!" Liam spoke out loud, ignoring Olivia and the others whose eyes denoted that they were waiting in anticipation to know more about the Nine Realms, Haltan, and the Arcane System.
But he couldn't care less about that right now.
[Customized Gift to the Major Contributor(63.2%) has been claimed!]
[The Lesser Relic ?Arcane Kunai?has been rewarded!]
[The Host was bestowed with a tremendous amount of Arcane Power!]
Before Liam realized what was going on, he found himself writhing on the ground. His entire body exuded a tremendous amount of azure blue energy that repulsed everyone and everything in his surroundings.
The surge of Arcane Power that entered his body had taken him by surprise.
It was as if a flood of the purest energy was coursing through his veins, seemingly wreaking havoc while actually strengthening the channels through which his Arcane Power surged and infiltrated his body and senses.
The sensation was electrifying and it made him feel as if every cell inside his body was coming alive.
It was certainly not comfortable, however, Liam accepted everything regardless.
After all, he understood what it meant to take a risk in order to snatch an opportunity when it appeared in front of him!
