Chapter 560 - All That is Left of You Will Only Be Your Bones
He walked into the City of Nature through the giant’s head. The giant’s mouth was already petrified into stones, but he could still feel the presence of spiritual energy in it.
The whole place, even the divine weapons and divine golds were sucked clear of spiritual energy, yet the city gate was still filled with spiritual energy. This city might just be the cause of all the oddities on this continent.
“Danger, don’t enter. Run!" A bloody sentence was left on one of the sharp teeth, written in blood.
Many skeletons lay on the ground underneath the city gate. These would be the Qi Practitioners that had found this place before.
No, these skeletons didn’t die escaping from the city, they died while trying to enter.
Zhong Yue looked at the skeletons and thought, These words don’t feel like they were written by those that escaped from the city. But more like these Qi Practitioners were trying to enter the city during the imminent danger, and somehow found something that made them leave the warnings.
He walked into the city and found some words on a piece of the city wall covered by the green vines. He pulled down the green vines and looked at the words.
These words… they are written by a god’s blood!
Zhong Yue’s scalps tingeled. The words looked as though they were just written down moments ago, the blood was still moving around the linings of the words. The words unfolded a piece of history that was lost in the passing of time.
The celestial emperor heard that there was an ancient mining site discovered underneath this continent and that this place always had many bizarre things happening around it. Thus, an expedition team was formed to scout it out.
When the gods reached the front of this city, they discovered that this city was built at least 36,000 years ago. They were all overjoyed and quickly passed their findings to the celestial emperor.
Celestial emperor? 36,000 years ago? Zhong Yue mumbled. He was startled by the word ‘celestial emperor’. Could it be… Bi Xie Celestial Emperor from 50,000 years ago?
This city is built 36,000 years ago? It belongs to the time after the great changes in the universe?
Zhong Yue’s heart shuddered greatly. The history of Ancestral Star was completely blank during the period between fifty thousand to a hundred thousand years ago. During those dark ages, there were the gods and civilizations, but there just weren’t any records left behind. It was only until the Bi Xie Celestial Emperor arrived from the Zi Wei Galaxy that history began to be recorded.
Thus, to the Qi Practitioners in the Ancestral Star, what happened during that period of fifty thousand years was totally unknown!
Hence, the Ancestral Star Qi Practitioners known that period of time as the “Dark Age”.
In order to continue his research in the sixth wheel, sixth secret realm, Feng Xiaozhong even went on to search for the tombs of the gods from that era!
However, Zhong Yue knew that period of time was an age of chaos that came right after the destruction of the Six Paths Reincarnation in this Six Paths World. Which was also the period of time where the Fuxi Celestial Race devolved into toward the human race.
A glorious sovereign race that fallen from the summit of power to mere slaves. Everything had happened during that period of time — the Dark Ages!
He continued reading. It said that the gods under the Bi Xie Celestial Emperor discovered that the city was closely related to a huge secret. Inside of the city, they found many tombs of the ancient gods and discovered many ancient secrets.
With the number of tombs they explored growing larger in number, the occurrences of strange events grew more frequent as well. There were gods that died mysteriously in all sorts of ways, and a peculiar wave of energy that ambushed them. The energy was strong and powerful, yet its origins had always remained mysterious.
But the celestial emperor gave his order, none shall ever turn back.
Hence, the more they strayed around in this ancient city, the more secrets they found, and the more gods that died in here.
Finally, they reached the core of the City of Nature. There, they saw something terrifying, and it was at that moment that they knew everything they needed to know about this ancient city.
A disaster fell upon the continent and they tried to escape. Many gods died on the spot and along the way. They were the last survivors and were able to make it to here. But even so, they found themselves with no way to escape.
The last sentence written on the wall was: Once you enter this gate, there will be no turning back. And when the disaster arrives, all that is left of you will only be your bones.”
Zhong Yue startled, he mumbled puzzlingly, “No turning back? You can’t get out?”
His heart suddenly twitched and he quickly looked back at the city gate. The city gate had been inexplicably closed!
Zhong Yue stomped his feet and flew up into the sky. But no matter how high he flew, the city wall seemed to extend high into the heavens, with no end in sight. It was impossible for him to fly out from above the city wall!
Cold sweat burst out from his forehead and he landed on the ground. He never noticed when the city gate closed. For such a huge city gate to close itself, it would have definitely caused a ruckus that would’ve been impossible for Zhong Yue to miss!
With that being said, there was only one possibility left.
From the outside, the city gate is open but when you are in here, the city gate is closed! The only reasonable explanation is that this city, was in fact, a huge seal that one can only enters and can’t exit!
Zhong Yue clenched on the green vines around the city wall and pulled them out from the ground. The earth tumbled up, revealing a huge skull that was buried beneath.
He pulled harder and more of the vines were uprooted. Soon, the skulls and skeletons of the dead gods could be seen buried right underneath here!
Zhong Yue’s heart throbbed heavily. The road to return was cutted off and the gods that had been here were also dead, there were no known survivors that left this place at all!
“And when the disaster arrives, all that is left of you will only be your bones…" Zhong Yue calmed himself down but his scalps couldn’t stop tingling. If even the Bi Xie Celestial Emperor’s subordinate gods couldn’t survive it, how could he?
“Xin Huo, do you any confidence in leaving this place?" Zhong Yue asked.
Xin Huo flew out from his psyche ocean and looked around, he said, “Breaking through that gate is impossible. The city gate is made from the son of an innate god, your prowess is not strong enough to do anything now. You will first have to find out its core and proceed later in breaking the seal, but you are still too weak to do so.”
“Then, I guess the only choice is to continue exploring to find a way to leave!" Zhong Yue heaved a long breath. He glanced around at the city wall in hope to find anymore useful tips. But other than the words he had read, there wasn’t anything around anymore.
Then, Zhong Yue dug out the gods’ skeletons and inspected them. Yet once again, his efforts were in vain.
What was so terrifying that even the gods couldn’t escape it?
He raised his head and looked further away. There was a mysterious force around that shrouded the city in mist. With no other choice, Zhong Yue strode forward cautiously, searching his way to the core that the gods talked about.
A cold breeze blew over and Zhong Yue faintly heard someone whispering in his ears. It sounded as though the gods were still alive and were discussing the city. Not only that, but Zhong Yue could still smell the blood in the breeze.
All of a sudden, the cold breeze grew stronger and the whispers in the wind became louder. In just seconds, it sounded as if there were gods shouting and roaring in battle.
The cold breeze turned into a gale, ravaging every corner in the city. Zhong Yue struggled to stand still and maintain his balance, but the voices grew even louder in his ears, thumping on his ear drums.
Then, the gale abruptly stopped, but the raucous voices remained. Zhong Yue opened his eyes and was stunned to see himself no longer in the city, but on a large battlefield!
“This is…”
There were gods scattered throughout the landscape, engaged in battle. There were giant gods with axes, avian gods that streaked across the sky, and gods mounting dragons!
All kind of gods were fighting, launching out their skills and wielding the divine weapons all over the place. Zhong Yue was like a stray leaf caught in the middle of a stormy sea, he could die in an instant any second now!
“Fake, it must all be fake!" Zhong Yue was just thinking about it and felt a skill lashing toward him. Without any hesitation, he visualized the ?Shao Hao Bell?. Immediately, as the ?Shao Hao Bell?was visualized, the incoming skill broke through it like a piece of tofu and struck right on Zhong Yue!
Zhong Yue’s mortal body shattered into pieces for a second and returned to normal, but his face turned pallid and was spurting out blood.
“Not fake?" Zhong Yue was terrified. Did the cold gale really blow him away from the City of Nature out to the middle of this weird battlefield?
“Rebels!" Laughter came from the sky and a huge face appeared in the clouds. It was laughing, “How dare you rebels still fight? Now that the old era has ended, it is time for a new ruler to rise! Kill them, kill them along with their old era!”
Immediately, the battle turned even more intense. Decapitated heads and bodies piled up on the ground and godly blood rained down with the severed limbs.
Zhong Yue was evading the skills firing about on the battlefield and caught the glimpse of a familiar silhouette, “Mother Da Zhen? She was also blown into this place by the wind?”
Mother Da Zhen was heavily wounded, she turned into the mother insect form and was fighting back against the godly skills and divine weapons.
“Zhong Yue!" Mother Da Zhen noticed him as well. Her face was filled with with anger and seconds later, she suddenly chortled happily, “You are also in here? Good, very good! Brat, die along with me here!”
Zhong Yue’s eyes were brimmed with killing intent, just as he was heading over to try and kill her. Thunders rumbled in the sky and a Xiao Dragon beast god crashed from the sky down to his side.
The Xiang Dragon beast god was a hundred thousand feet tall, and its muscles rippled with strength. After he was punched down by a stronger opponent and fell down from the sky, he was coughing out blood unceasingly.
The Xiao Dragon beast god suddenly noticed Zhong Yue who was standing beside him and startled for a split second, “Just a petty Qi Practitioners and yet you dare to come and intervene in such a battle? Get away from here!”
The Xiang Dragon beast god swung his tail and hit Zhong Yue, crushing Zhong Yue’s mortal body away, launching him away.
The Xiang Dragon beast god leaped up and stone tablets emerged around him, blood seeped out from the tablets and glimmered up the totem patterns on them.
“Seven Slaughtering Arrays!”
The Xiang Dragon beast god rushed into the clouds with the Seven Slaughtering Arrays around him. A saber flashed down from the clouds, and the Xiang Dragon beast god was decapitated. His remains fell into the mountains, following the stone tablets on the back.
Zhong Yue was recovering from the wounds, he could tell that his mortal body and Yuan Shen were both struck hard. Zhong Yue was coughing blood out from his mouth when he saw the Xiang Dragon beast god’s remains fall into the mountains.
His face stiffened up.
“Impossible…”
The cold gale blew over and curled everyone along with it. The shouts and hollers around Zhong Yue turned softer, eventually turning back into the whispers he heard before.
The gale turned into breeze and when the breeze stopped, Zhong Yue was returned to the City of Nature again.
“Impossible, that is impossible…" Zhong Yue was still stunned, he murmured with a quivering voice, “Xin Huo, didn’t that Xiang Dragon beast god look familiar…”
