Chapter 551 – The Old Man In The Island
Damien laid out another bed and gently placed an unconscious Reva on it and couldn't help but admire her beauty for a while before using his ethereal barrier artifact to set up a barrier around these two before going out to find a place to stay.
He flew up into the air as he looked down at the island that spanned hundreds of kilometers. He already had scanned his surroundings with his spiritual sense, but he still wanted to take a look with his own eyes and see for himself what this place was while scanning again to see if anybody else was here.
However, he still couldn't sense any other people in this place, but instead, he was impressed by how beautiful this island was, especially the sparkling blue ocean that could make one keep looking at it without ever feeling tired.
He saw that behind home were huge cliffs that spanned at least hundreds of meters, and surprisingly above them, he located a cottage there with a lovely garden around it.
'Is someone living here?' Damien had sensed this cottage before and now decided to investigate it even though he couldn't sense anyone staying here.
The cottage was not big but small enough for two to three people to stay comfortably and looked quite old-fashioned. In fact, as he vigilantly walked into the wooden cottage which was not locked, he saw a small kitchen with basic utensils that seemed as if they were used just recently, making him wonder if the person who was staying here had gone out and if they would come back again later.
He didn't know if poking his nose around here was a good idea since the person staying here could very well be an enemy or maybe become hostile if they find him trespassing around here.
Still, his curiosity won him over as he went inside one of the rooms and saw two mats inside and a bunch of clothes in the cupboard that seemed to be the unisex type, making it hard for Damien to guess whether it was a woman or a man staying here.
But what he realized now was that at least two people were staying in this cottage even though they were nowhere to be seen.
However, his eyes narrowed when he suddenly turned around.
"Stay right there! Don't try anything funny, or this stone will reduce you into ashes even if you are an Early level Profound Ethereal Realm cultivator," A frail-looking old man with a walking stick surprisingly was standing in front of Damien with a rusty azure jagged stone in his hand that seemed to have a slight glowing look to it.
However, he was pointing this stone at Damien while telling him to not move. Even though his body seemed weak enough for even a subtle wind to blow him over, his face had a valiant look underneath all that untidy white beard and mustache and a fearless aura emanating from it despite how his body was slightly trembling due to physical weakness.
But Damien couldn't even detect an ounce of cultivation in this old man, and he seemed no different than an ordinary human. However, he noticed a strange aura of ethereal energy emanating from the bronze amulet on his neck and felt that it was some kind of treasure, just like the azure stone he was holding in his hand that seemed to contain a profound aura he couldn't see through.
"Who are you, young man? How did you get here?!" The old man asked with a stern expression as if he wouldn't hesitate to turn him into ashes if he gave the wrong answer.
Damien took a deep breath as he didn't dare to look down on this old man just because he had no cultivation, especially since he seemed to hold a dangerous treasure in his hands.
He raised his hands as he said, "Senior, I am not a bad guy. My name is Damien. I accidentally stumbled upon this place after running away from somewhere else," Damien didn't want to mention Irene and Reva since he didn't know if this old man was friendly or not.
"Liar! That's impossible since only one other person in this world can come here, and that is definitely not you," The old man said as his tone became hostile and the azure stone began to glow.
"No! Wait! Wait! Can you at least tell me who this other person is?" Damien guessed something in his mind and wanted to make sure what he was thinking was right. He felt that this old man might not be necessarily bad but someone who seemed too paranoid.
The old man looked at Damien with a skeptical look before answering, "My wife…Only my wife can come here and the only one who knows about this place other than me. And if you said you came here alone, then it means—"
"I didn't come here alone!"
"Huh? What are you talking about?"
"Do you know senior Irene?" Damien asked with a narrowed gaze making the old man look at him with a peculiar gaze as he asked suspiciously, "Why did you mention my wife?"
Damien inwardly let out a relieved sigh as he said, "Because I came here with her and with her granddaughter as well. And both of them need a good place to rest. That is why I came here."
"Irene and Reva…both of them are here??" The old man put back the azure stone as he suddenly rushed towards Damien and grabbed his arms in a frantic manner, making Damien feel a bit awkward since he had no idea why this man seemed so out of it.
"Yes…they are."
"Then take them to me! You said they needed to rest, right? Are they alright or did something—"
"Relax, senior. They indeed did get hurt, but their injuries have stabilized, and all they need is some good sleep. Can I bring them here so you can see for yourself?" Damien felt that this old man was indeed Irene's husband, no matter how surprising that seemed, even if this old man had zero cultivation.. Still, he could spot some slight similarity when he pictured Reva's face in his mind.
