Chapter ?715 Do You All Really Know Damien?
"Exterminate us? You mean like they won't rest till they kill us all? Why are they doing this to us? Can't we form a peace treaty with them?" Lily asked in a worried tone.
She felt that since these ghouls except the fiends seem to have intelligence, then they could probably work out some sort of compromise.
Kena shook her head with a firm gaze as she said, "You don't get it. We don't get to make treaties with predators who consider us as prey. Don't you see…They consider us as their food. We are their most powerful source of energy to gain more power. They even capture us as slaves and forcefully make us breed just like pigs for slaughter. Even if we might not get extinct, we for sure would lose our freedom and be damned till we die if we do not fight back."
"So I suppose Farah's mission was related to gaining freedom for us humans? You expect us to believe that after knowing what she was up to over there?" Reva skeptically asked.
"Hey! For the mission, I had to do whatever it took even though in the end, it all got ruined by one single man," Farah said with a harrumph, making Valentina click her tongue in annoyance.
"Farah is the last person you should doubt her commitment towards our freedom," Kena said as she walked over to Farah and patted her shoulder.
"She has sacrificed a lot for us even before leaving this side of the world. She took up a mission no one else would dare to, and everything she did in there was to prevent our enemies from turning the Land of Salvation into a hell like the one we are living in now," Kena said with full confidence.
"How so? All she did was lie and try to sabotage us," Valentina strongly said.
Kena nodded, "Yes. I understand her actions would have seemed antagonistic, but the Gale Emperor was the easiest way to stop the ghouls from taking over the Land of Salvation. As you all witnessed, they used the Xeton Emperor to let the egg of an Abominable Fiend grow inside since they themselves can't come inside. If the Abominable Fiend had compromised your entire continent, the ghouls would finally be able to gain entry."
"You said you were a Spiritwalker who could puppet the dead. So you were planning to puppet the Gale Emperor?" Yuria asked as she put two and two together.
Farah twirled the ends of her hair as she said, "Obviously, I would have gone for the Xeton Emperor since he was the strongest, but I knew I might probably fail due to his nature. The Gale Emperor was too easy, considering the fact that he was a lusty dog. I could have used the entire might of his empire to stop Ruthren when the time came, but your husband just had to save the day, didn't he?"
"He genuinely thought you were trying to hurt us. If only you had told the truth…" Lily could understand Farah's frustrations considering the things she had to do, especially with someone like the Gale Emperor, and could feel how devoted she was to gaining freedom for humans.
However, Lily didn't think that Damien did anything wrong given the circumstances.
"Really? You think that paranoid man would have believed me? He wouldn't rest until he searched my memories after turning me into his dead slave. Thankfully, I know how to safeguard my soul," Farah said while still feeling chills upon remembering how he was this close to turning her into an undead.
Valentina and her sisters had their expressions become taut since Farah just blurted out that their husbands could turn people into undead slaves.
They knew this would happen, though they were desperately hoping that it wouldn't.
And as expected, Kena looked at them with crossed arms as she said, "Farah had told me everything about the husband of you four. You four are not only pretty as the heavens but even possess gifts and talents we can't fathom. So it does make sense that the man you four are married to would be special in every way. I came to learn lots of interesting things about him, but I never expected that he could manipulate nethereal energy…the very energy that makes our enemies thrive."
Kena stepped closer as an icy air began to envelop Yuria and her sisters, "So, does any of you know about his true origins? Or did he ever tell you that he was born on this side of the world…perhaps having a blood connection to the ghouls, hiding in plain sight by pretending to be a human? Who knows, he could have been working with the Xeton Emperor all along and disposed of him after he had fulfilled his purpose."
"Enough! Don't slander our husband's name," Valentina said coldly, unable to keep hearing such nonsense from her.
"That's right. We know our husband better than you think, and as the daughter of a real monster, I can clearly differentiate the darkness and the light in one's heart. Damien may have his flaws, but his love for us is as pure as it could be," Reva firmly said without even thinking that what Kena said could be a possibility.
Yuria softly chuckled as if she heard a joke and said, "I understand if you suspect Damien due to how it all looks. But we share a connection with our husband that is deeper than anything. It is as if we had known him for more than a lifetime," Yuria remembered her past life with Damien, but of course, she couldn't talk about it here. The last person she would ever doubt was him.
"They are right. Without Damien, we all would have been dead, and if he was really working for the ghouls, as you said, then he wouldn't be risking his life by luring the Abominable Fiend out of our continent. Even Farah witnessed it," Lily said as she glanced at Farah.
"Yeah, yeah. That is a fact," Farah admitted with a sigh.
Kena narrowed her eyes, "Okay. I believe you four. And since that's the case, it also means that this Damien could be a lot of help to us in ways we can't imagine. Finding him will be one of our priorities now, but…be careful, don't tell anybody else about the things Damien could do, especially the fact that he can manipulate nethereal energy. Not everybody would be willing to have an open mind like us," Kena said with a serious expression, making Valentina and her sisters understand how serious she was about her words.
