Chapter 261: Accepting Missions
There was a nearby city not far from the Mountain and they all headed to that location. It was a different city from the one where they took their mission before. The city was fairly big but Lin Xiao could sense the high tension even from a distance away.
He could see that the guards were looking at them full of hostility as if they owed a thousand gold coins to them.
Lin Xiao was confused.
"We’re mercenary from Sun Kingdom," Prince Lin Yan took his identification letter. He handed it to the guards who read the letter seriously. After a minute, they handed it back and nodded.
"You may go."
"Thank you." Prince Lin Yan smiled and slipped a coin when he took the letter back. The guard’s expression didn’t change but there was a faint glimmer in his eyes when he sensed the coins.
As the group entered the city, Lin Xiao asked, "Why do you do that?"
"It’s to earn their favorable impression. Mercenary are the one who can travel between countries easily so it’s hard to know whether they’re spies or not. Because of that, those high ranked noble will usually do some background check to make sure that the person they’re facing comes from their country."
Prince Lin Yan naturally knew more about this matter. He might be a high ranking cultivator, but he also traveled to many places over the years. His eyes narrowed. "It’s fine if you don’t but you better strike good relationship with the guards whenever you can because it can be crucial at some times."
Prince Lin San chuckled. "Don’t worry too much about it. For us, that kind of money didn’t worth much anymore. You wouldn’t be able to use any copper, silver, nor gold coins for our needs."
Hearing that, Lin Xiao paused for a moment. Indeed, cultivators would not care about those monies because what they cared the most was spirit stones. The currency they used most of the time was Spirit Stone since it can also be used for their cultivation.
The only reason why they still had money of other value was simply so that they could blend in with others.
But in terms of value... they didn’t worth much in the eyes of cultivators.
They could exchange almost anything they have for millions of gold coins and it was still within the limit. It was clear that money was the least of the worry for cultivators.
Of course, that was only when one was speaking about the gold. If they were talking about Spirit stones... that would be a completely different story. A lot of cultivators were working hard to make sure that they could earn enough Spirit Stones to aid their cultivation.
"I see."
"We’re here."
Prince Lin Yan led them inside. Right now, they looked a bit strange as they all dressed in ordinary clothes with black robe draped over them. Princess Lan Yi Hua was even using the hood to cover her face because there might be people who could recognize her.
The people inside only passed a glance to them once before they resumed back to their own business. There were a lot of people who came to the mercenary hall and they had no interest to pay close attention to everyone who came inside like that.
He walked to the board and began to scan them.
Lin Xiao walked in and he had just realized one thing: they hadn’t asked Prince Lin Yan his cultivation rank in his fake identity. As far as they knew, Prince Lin Yan was already at Golden Core Stage 2 but it was unclear whether he would say the truth in the fake identity resume.
They all also headed to the board and was stunned when they saw the list of work.
Ehm, their rank...
Mercenary was divided into ranks starting from G. Lin Xiao looked at his badge that Prince Lin Yan had prepared... it was only rank F...
They could easily take the test to get higher rank if their cultivation was high enough. Another way was for them to continue taking missions after missions so that they could raise their mercenary ranking.
He glanced at Prince Lin San and noticed that they were all at rank F except Xia Ye who was at rank G.
Prince Lin Yan... Lin Xiao peeked at the badge and nearly cursed. Prince Lin Yan was at rank D, which was two ranks higher than the rest. What kind of reason would he have to stay with their group, then?
"Hey mate, how long do you want to stand there?" A bulky man waved his axe as he asked in impatient tone.
Prince Lin Yan arched his eyebrows. "I’m a bit troubled right now. I want to help my younger brothers to finish missions but I feel that I might take missions that are too hard for them to handle."
"Just take some easy missions. Oh right, there’s a mission that required a large number of mercenary and I was planning to take a look at it too." The bulky man stepped forward and naturally Prince Lin Yan stepped back.
He pointed to one side. "This one. There’s an important escort and they’re recruiting as many people to come as possible."
Prince Lin Yan naturally had noticed that missions. He nodded his head. "Thank you for your advice. I’ll take the mission."
"Good, hmm, the requirement is not that strict too..."
While the man was mumbling, Prince Lin Yan brought Lin Xiao and the others to take the missions. The person behind the counter nodded when she saw them asking for that mission.
"You’re not allowed to leak anything about the guest this time. Also, you’ll be heading to Lan Hua Kingdom, so you might need to pay more attention about your identity. Foreign mercenaries might not be accepted so easily."
"Thank you for your reminder." Prince Lin Yan looked much more amiable today. It might have been part of his act but the others felt that acting was really a necessary art in life.
They couldn’t possibly live in total seclusion all their lives, right?
There might be other things that they needed to pay attention too.
