Chapter 239 - Stevan's Death
Chapter 239 - Stevan's Death
At a public cemetery in the south Jakarta area, Raymond and Dean witnessed Gustave's funeral procession which was attended by a few mourners. There were several of them dressed mysteriously, staring at Dean and Raymond warily, as if they thought they were dangerous.
"I think they're the mobsters related to Gustave," Raymond whispered to Dean.
"I'll talk to them," Dean said with a probing look at the several mobs of mourners. He also approached them when Gustave's body had been buried, sprinkled with flowers and attached tombstones.
"I know who you are, no need to look at me worried or wary. I will not report your illicit business activities, but don't ever disturb the peace of my family," said Dean with a flat look.
"But some of the evidence is in the hands of your in-laws' confidant," said the man with black glasses with a posture that was not too dashing and had an Asian accent.
"I'll keep the evidence. As long as you don't disturb the peace of my family, I will not give the evidence to the police," Dean assured because all he wanted was the peace of his family.
"If you betray, I assure you that your fate is worse than Gustave's!" threatened the man then left Dean with some of his men.
Raymond walked over to Dean and patted him on the shoulder. "Why would you make such a deal? Hiding people's crimes?"
"I don't want our family to be attacked by a vengeance let the police find out one day what their business is, we don't have to interfere," said Dean then glanced at his watch which showed the time was noon. "We'd better get back to the hospital. I have to get Jill some food. Because she doesn't like hospital food."
Raymon nodded and immediately left the tomb with Dean and several other mourners. They returned to the car and immediately drove it to the hospital.
___
While on the way, Dean tried to contact Bryana to ask what food she wanted to buy, but it turned out that he had already received a call from his wife first.
"Hello, honey," Dean said as he connected with Bryana.
"Is the funeral procession over if so, go to the hospital immediately. Dad's condition is very worrying," Bryana said over the phone sounding like she was crying.
"It's done. I'll be right there now."
"Careful."
The phone line was cut off. Raymond who was focused on driving, turned to Dean who looked agitated, "what's wrong, Dean?" he asked.
"Daddy's condition is quite worrying. We have to get to the hospital quickly," Dean replied.
Raymond immediately felt anxious with his chest that seemed to hurt, his breath caught and even his body began to tremble at the thought of the bad possibility that would happen to his father. He immediately accelerated the car, which made Dean a little worried.
"Please be careful, Raymond. We can hit people like this!" Dean shouted.
"I don't feel good, Dean!" said Raymond's house still driving fast. He felt he had to get to the hospital sooner, seeing his father's final moments because he already had a bad feeling.
___
at the hospital, Bryana looked sadly at Stevan who was staring at being helped by the doctor because his breath was starting to get tight and even had stopped. The middle-aged man received help by using a cardiac stun device until his breath began to breathe again.
"Dad ... You must be strong, recover, be healthy as before and we live in peace," Bryana said in tears, while the doctor and Monica just stared in resignation.
"Raymond," Stevan whispered between his ragged breaths.
"Raymond is on his way here. You must survive!" Bryana shouted, holding her father's right hand which felt so cold, then placed it on her cheek.
"Aren't you disappointed anymore... at dad?" Stevan asked.
Bryana shook her head. "I'm the one who disappointed you. left you in a coma, demanding that you apologize to my husband. I'm selfish ... I always trouble you with desires ...," She said sadly.
"You are not wrong ... it's my duty to make you happy and take care of you, you have to be happy even though I'm gone," Stevan exclaimed then took a deep breath and then exhaled slowly. The pain was so deep that it cut his heart. "ahh ..."
Bryana sobbed more and more and turned towards the door, hoping that Raymond had come but it turned out that her brother had not yet arrived.
"Monica, how is it?"
"You have to be sincere, Bryana. Let go, dad, maybe this is the best for him," Monica exclaimed with teary eyes.
Stevan glanced at Monica and called out to her in a voice that was already very heavy from his almost out of breath. "Monica..."
Monica came closer and looked at her dying father-in-law. "Yes, Dad. I'm here."
"Never leave, Raymond ..." Stevan quietly looked at Monica pleadingly.
Monica nodded and smiled reassuringly. "Yes, dad. I will never leave him."
"You have to be patient even though sometimes Raymond irritates you... only you can make him happy," Stevan exclaimed, then sighed which was getting heavier.
Monica always obeyed the message from her father-in-law, while Bryana couldn't help but cry seeing her father was in the process of dying as if she also felt congested and sick.
___
Arriving at the hospital, Raymond ran down the corridor followed by Dean until he arrived at the ICU and went straight in without regard to the rules for wearing special clothes. The man went straight to his father who was dying.
"Dad ...." Raymond looked at Stevan sadly.
"Raymond..." Stevan whispered with a smile.
"I'm sorry I couldn't last until your child was born."
"You can't say that! You have to endure!" Raymond exclaimed then looked at the Doctor who had been silent in the room for a long time. "Doctor! Can't you help him?"
"Sorry, sir. We've tried our best. Your father's condition can no longer be defended," explained the doctor, glancing at Stevan, who was already on oxygen but was still having trouble breathing.
Raymon sighed and looked at his father sadly, then bent down and hugged him until he cried. "I'm sorry if all this time I haven't been a good son to you..."
Uhukkk . .. uhukkk...
Stevan coughed and sighed again. "You have been a good son to me. I am proud to have you as a descendant of me."
Raymond let go of his arms and burst into tears, then approached Monica. Meanwhile, Dean turned to his father-in-law.
"Dean..." Stevan whispered.
"I will take care of Bryana with all my heart until the end of my life. I will not leave her again," said Dean with confidence.
"Yes ... Take care of her and make her happy," Stevan said with a relieved smile even though the pain was growing in his chest.
until a few seconds later, Stevan breathed his last when he made sure his two children were happy with their respective life partners.
Instantly Bryana's tears broke even more until Dean hugged her and tried to calm her down. the woman was devastated because her father died before she could see the condition of his grandson who was still in the incubator. The image of her father trying to keep her safe in yesterday's accident always haunted her, making her feel very much cared for by her once-neglected father.
Raymond was crying, feeling the loss of his only parent, and feeling so sad because his future child did not have the opportunity to meet his grandparents when he was born.. Monica also hugged him, trying to calm him down to let go of his father's departure.
