Chapter 42: It’s Okay, I Understand
Chapter 42: It’s Okay, I Understand
At four o’clock in the afternoon on September 12th, the military training and parade of this year’s first-years concluded successfully.
Surprisingly, the most eye-catching figure at the parade was not the handsome young men in the flag-bearing team nor the dashing instructors performing military boxing.
It was Peppa Pig.
“How embarrassing.” Xun Liang’s aloof girlfriend stood in front of him with a look of displeasure. She had tied a military training uniform she had borrowed from somewhere around Dog’s waist and covered the innocent eyes of Peppa Pig.
“How was I supposed to know these pants were so flimsy?” Xun Liang scratched his head and chuckled. He enjoyed his girlfriend’s care and even shamelessly leaned forward to kiss her neck.
Jiang Miao and Wang Xin wanted to comfort (mock) Dog, but after seeing this, they immediately avoided the dog food scene.
“Wanna have dinner?” Wang Xin asked.
“It’s only four. Isn’t it still early?”
“After eating, I’m planning to go back and prepare for the debate.”
“Oh. I’ll join you then.”As Jiang Miao followed Wang Xin to eat, he glanced over at Xun Liang and saw him holding hands with his girlfriend and taking photos together—probably capturing their last memories of the military training.
Tsk, I really want to beat this guy up.
After Jiang Miao ate dinner in the cafeteria with Wang Xin, his stomach started feeling a bit queasy. “You go back first. I need to use the bathroom.”
Wang Xin stopped in his tracks and looked at Jiang Miao doubtfully. “Are you going to find Senior Sister again? It’s just the two of us now. You can be honest.”
“…” Jiang Miao’s head was full of black lines, feeling exasperated at Prince’s logic. Gritting his teeth, he said, “I’m going to take a dump! Do you really want me to say that out loud in the cafeteria?”
“It’s okay. I understand.” Wang Xin nodded, waved goodbye, and left.
What the hell do you understand?! Jiang Miao was so annoyed that he slammed the stall door when he entered the restroom.
Thud!
“Damn it” The boy in the next stall was startled. “Brother, are you hurrying to be reborn?”
“Uh… sorry.”
…
After relieving himself, Jiang Miao flushed the toilet and exited the stall.
The brother next door had already left.
Feeling much better, Jiang Miao walked out of the restroom and went to the sink to wash his hands. Just as he was about to whistle, he saw a familiar figure coming out of the women’s restroom nearby.
“Huh? Junior Brother, what a coincidence.” Su Huaizhou stepped out of the restroom and paused for a moment when she saw Jiang Miao before breaking into a smile.
Hiss…
Jiang Miao took half a step back and looked at the door frame of the women’s restroom, wondering if this thing had some kind of teleportation function.
“What are you looking at?” Su Huaizhou asked suspiciously as she stepped in front of the restroom door. “You shouldn’t look around.”
“Nothing…” Jiang Miao, sighing, turned off the tap, grabbed a piece of paper towel, and dried his hands. “Senior Sister, do you have some kind of superpower that lets you teleport to any women’s restroom? Why do I keep bumping into you outside the restroom doors?”
“Why don’t you say that you have a superpower that lets you teleport to any men’s restroom?” Su Huaizhou rolled her eyes at him. “And this superpower is too crummy.”
“Actually, I’ve thought of a cheat like that.” Jiang Miao immediately thought of web novels at the mention of superpowers. “There was a chat in the authors’ group before.
“For example, the protagonist in an infinity-style novel had a cheat that randomly teleported him into a women’s restroom after entering a new dungeon.
“And then he gained various abilities of the people who had been in that restroom before.”
Su Huaizhou: “… You can actually write that?”
“Novels these days thrive on gimmicks. Theoretically, a setup where the protagonist randomly enters women’s restrooms and produces all sorts of conflicts and drama could be pretty interesting.”
“Then why hasn’t anyone written it?” Su Huaizhou giggled.
“Ahem… It would likely get taken down.” Jiang Miao smiled awkwardly. “But if it’s men’s restrooms, the appeal will be much lower, so it’s better not to write it.”
“…” Su Huaizhou rubbed her forehead helplessly. Then she looked at Jiang Miao and showed a thoughtful expression. “Junior Brother.”
“Yes?”
“Let’s talk more about web novels in the future.” Su Huaizhou smiled. “You seem to be truly happy only when you discuss them.”
As soon as Senior Sister said this, Jiang Miao felt his heart skip a beat. He instinctively turned around and went to the corridor.
“What’s wrong?” Su Huaizhou asked curiously and followed him after washing her hands.
“… Nothing.” He quickened his pace, avoiding her gaze.
By the time she caught up, he had already returned to his usual laid-back self.
“Junior Brother, where are you going now?”
“Back to my dorm.”
“I’m heading that way too.”
“Senior Sister, if you continue being so charming, my body won’t be able to take it.”
“I don’t treat others like this.” Su Huaizhou smiled and patted Jiang Miao’s shoulder. “You’re special, Peach Jam~”
Jiang Miao was a little touched at first, but when he heard these two words, his face immediately darkened, and he no longer wanted to talk to Senior Sister.
The two of them walked out of the cafeteria together and headed for the school’s west gate.
When passing by the west sports field, Su Huaizhou looked at the scattered first-years in military training uniforms and suddenly remembered something. “Oh, right. Your military parade ended today, didn’t it?”
“Yes.”
“I see.” Su Huaizhou reached out to tug the sleeve of Jiang Miao’s military training uniform and pointed at the field. “How about taking a picture? It might be the last time you wear a military uniform in your life.”
“That’s too much trou—”
“Come on, let’s go.” Su Huaizhou moved behind Jiang Miao and pushed him towards the field. “It would be a pity not to capture such a memorable event.”
If anyone else had asked him to take pictures, Jiang Miao would have definitely found it too troublesome and rejected them.
But with Senior Sister urging him, he couldn’t bring himself to say no.
Half-pushed, half-willing, completely passive—before he knew it, he found himself standing on the field.
Hmm… This is all because of Senior Sister. It has nothing to do with my own willingness.
Since he was already here, he might as well go through with it and take a few photos.
“Junior Brother, don’t tell me the only pose you know is the peace sign?” Su Huaizhou looked at him in amusement after snapping a few pictures.
“Isn’t this how everyone takes photos?”
“We’re not taking ID photos,” Su Huaizhou replied with a sigh. She happened to see a few juniors passing by, so she approached them with a gentle smile. “Junior Sisters, could I trouble you to take a few pictures?”
“Sure. Senior Sister, is it just you?”
“No, there’s another person.”
When Senior Sister returned to Jiang Miao’s side, he looked at the camera and realized that the person holding the phone was actually the class monitor, Sun Yumeng.
Standing beside her were two unfamiliar girls and Song Huanhuan.
Oh boy… I hope they don’t recognize me…
“Look at the sky and give us a side view.” Su Huaizhou instructed. “Okay, then crouch down and touch the grass.”
After being manipulated by Senior Sister for a couple of minutes, Jiang Miao finally escaped from her control.
But just as he regained his composure, he saw another person standing beside the four girls taking photos!
It was Wang Xin, who had been called over by his debate teammates for a meeting. He adjusted his glasses and looked at Senior Sister Su before looking at Jiang Miao. The setting sun cast a gleam across his lenses.
Jiang Miao noticed his roommate’s deep eyes and immediately felt something was wrong. Worried, he wanted to explain.
But Wang Xin nodded at him first. “It’s fine, no need to explain. I understand.”
Jiang Miao: “…”
Damn it! What the hell do you understand?!
