Chapter 88: Future Plans of a General Hospital (5)
A/N: Thanks to Jany for the donation! Sorry for the wonky updates. I've been having trouble keeping up with them recently. So I'll try to keep a steady upload of three chapters a week from now.
"Hey, Dr. Park!"
Professor Son pointed at Dowook.
"Helping out in pancreatic surgery? Where did you hear something that crazy? Does cancer surgery look easy to you?”
"Professor."
Min Bo-Hoon suddenly stopped Professor Son's indignant yelling.
"If you want to participate in the collaboration, please sit close. You've been cutting off the flow for a while."
"No, I'm…"
While Professor Son, who became sullen, shrank back, Min Bo-Hoon asked Dowook.
"Is there a basis for your confidence?"
"If it's a basis…"
Dowook scattered the young Min Bo-Hoon's sense and accepted Choi Hoo’s again.
"There's definitely nothing awkward about it."’
The fact that Choi Hoo and Min Bo-Hoon's senses were concentrated in this one hand meant that a neurosurgeon could perform customized surgery at the level of a specialist in pancreatic surgery at the same time. Therefore, surgical assistance was of course possible.
A few months ago in the operating room, he struggled when using two senses at once but now it was different.
Dowook could not accurately reveal this process to Min Bo-Hoon, but the idea was that there was no surgical method more suitable than this for the patient.
"… Surgery for a patient with multiple damages. I participated in one three months ago. If you check it out, you'll understand to some extent. I can't give you more evidence than that because this is not the surgical field."
Min Bo-Hoon began checking the chart when he told him the case of the academy bus driver where he served as an assistant for Professor Choi and Chief Ji at the same time.
While waiting for the choice, Professor Son's voice was heard talking to someone on the phone.
"No, Professor Min is not cooperative. How can I push you here? I don't need to nitpick…….”
Professor Son, who made eye contact with Dowook, hurriedly covered his mouth and lowered his voice.
"Doctor Park."
Min Bo-Hoon, who took his eyes off the monitor, called out to Dowook.
"What?"
"This case. You had cardiovascular anastomosis in the middle.”
"Because it was an emergency."
"The chest decided that this part was a complete surgery."
"It's probably because the patient was lucky."
Min Bo-Hoon smiled blankly, saying, "Huh."
"It wasn't me, but the doctor who decided on the possibility of cooperation."
Professor Son, who grabbed the phone, was surprised when positive words popped out of the team leader's mouth.
Min Bo-Hoon turned to Professor Son and said this.
"Are you still on the phone with the oncologist?"
"Huh? Yeah."
"Please tell him to stop spying. From now on, we need to plan a case surgery and interview the patient, so please prepare for overtime."
"You're agreeing to Dr. Park’s proposal? What about AN Medical Center?”
"The medical staff at the AN Brain Oncology Center do not have the ability to cover the chest and abdominal blood vessels. The timing of this proposal is greater than any surgical benefit."
At Min Bo-Hoon's answer, he accurately understood the reason why he brought it up. Professor Son lowered his phone and asked sadly.
"Professor Min believes that Dr. Park can even assist?"
"I don't believe it."
"Then?"
"I'm confident even though I know this proposal could end my entire career if it fails. I acknowledged my confidence. Dr. Park will prove it."
Min Bo-Hoon turned to Dowook.
"I don't think you'll step down from here, but I'll ask you one more time. 80% of cancer centers are run by physicians. Invisible eyes will continue to follow, and even small mistakes will greatly inflate."
"If this is the best thing for the patient, do you need to pay attention to those eyes? I'll just do it."
Min Bo-hoon's polite voice continued towards the smiling Dowook.
"If the patient agrees to this combination, can you participate in the surgery?"
"Of course. That's why I'm here."
In a little bit.
Lee Ki-cheol, head of the oncology department, rushed into the office of the high-level cancer surgery team after Dowook left.
"Professor Min! What are you doing?!"
"What are you talking about?"
"Instead of doing as planned, you gave in and even complimented the enemy. How happy would Chief Ha be if he did this?”
Min Bo-Hoon stood in front of Lee Ki-Cheol after writing the expected surgery time on the whiteboard.
"Plan? I don't remember hearing such instructions."
"Didn't you hear that I said I'd add 3 staff members?"
"Chief Lee?"
Hong Yoo Seon, head of the cancer center, appeared behind Lee Ki-cheol, who was full of temper. Lee Ki-cheol turned his back and argued again.
"Professor Hong, what happened?"
"What do you mean? Professor Min cleared up his position."
"Organizing your position?"
"I'll ignore the transactions going back and forth and go my way. The cancer center's leading professor, who overwhelmingly ranks first in outpatient reservations, says he doesn't like politics in the hospital, so what else can I ask for?"
Lee Ki-cheol opened his eyes wide.
"Are you going to pair up with a neurosurgeon? Professor Hong, whose side are you on?”
"I'm on the side of the person who will lead the future of the cancer center. No matter which department it is."
Lee Ki-cheol, who shook his head as if he couldn't communicate, glared.
"From today onwards, the oncology department will be excluded from the cancer surgery team.”
"Excuse me…"
"Come on!"
Son Chang-man flinched and followed behind Lee Ki-cheol.
"Professor Hong, think carefully about the route, too. Don’t do something you’ll regret.”
Lee Ki-cheol and Son Chang-man left the room.
Inside the office where the storm once passed. Hong Yoo Seon looked at Min Bo-Hoon.
"You did as usual."
"Do you think it's a mistake?"
"We'll have to wait and see."
"Park Dowook. If this case is successful, please consider having a formal invitation to a highly difficult cancer surgery team."
"I can hear the budget emptying. Did you like him that much?”
"It's not common to ignore factional fights lightly in the general hospital system. Either one is crazy or very good at what he does. Dr. Park is the latter."
Dowook flinched as the door of the chief's office suddenly opened while walking in the hallway of neurosurgery. Ha Sang Joong put out his head and looked through the hallway. Even though he was just on his way back from the cancer center,he must have already heard.
"Hey, Park Dowook!"
Dowook tried to walk without making eye contact but got caught.
“Yes, chief?"
"Get in here right now."
"I have to go in on duty. I didn't even have dinner.”
"Shut up and hurry!"
Dowook sighed and headed to the chief's office. However, it was not Chief Ha that was waiting inside.
"Vice dean?"
Bae Ji Man was sitting on the sofa. Bae Ji Man beckoned to Dowook who quickly bowed in greeting.
"Come on in, Dr. Park. You happened to be in the department.”
As soon as Dowook sat on the sofa, Chief Ha spoke quickly with a low voice.
"You. From now on, you can't talk about what’s being said in here outside."
"What are you talking about?"
"Wait. Sir, go ahead."
He was nervous, not knowing what would be said, but Bae Ji Man only looked at him and smiled.
"Tom Brand’s company sent a congratulatory message to the official account. You and the hospital are mentioned. It's going to have a lot of promotional effects."
"Really?"
"If the hospital was in normal operation, I would have rewarded you, but I'm sorry that I can't. Please understand that it's like a company dinner for all neurosurgery."
"It's okay. I'm thankful for that."
"Neurosurgery is the pillar of the hospital these days. I didn't know you would take care of such a big patient."
Bae Ji Man continued with a satisfied smile.
"Dr. Park. I got a call from the dean a while ago."
The news surprised Dowook.
"He's going to return soon. However, the board of directors, who heard the news of his return, took the initiative first. Sooner or later, a hospital management meeting will be convened."
"Isn't it a meeting that the board can't convene if he's away?"
"There's an exception. Article 9 of the Act on the Establishment of Myeong Sae University Hospital. The clause states that if a majority of standing directors resign during their term of office, the appointment process must be carried out as soon as possible to form a new board of directors."
"Oh my god."
This meant that the majority of the board members actually resigned. It meant that they would make all-out efforts over there. He had a hunch that this would have a formidable impact in the hospital.
This must be why Chief Ha warned not to disclose it.
Important meeting to determine hospital operation guidelines. The absence of the dean was a situation that could lead to a great danger. The board of directors were insisting on an emergency management system that included salary cuts for doctors.
"So I have an important favor to ask Dr. Park.”
"To me?"
"I would like you to pay attention to Director Lim So Yool, who will attend the management meeting as the director's representative, for the time being. There is a secretary saying that she is worried about her health due to a lot of work, but she does not want to rest. I heard that you are the doctor who communicates the best with Director Lim So Yool at this hospital.”
"That's fine. There's no problem."
"This is the request. I'm just sorry to pass on the burden to you who is already suffering.”
If he faced a salary cut, he would have to listen to Seong Chang Soo’s complaints. For that reason, there was no reason not to help Lim So Yool take care of her health.
"Dowook, please. This is our hospital's future."
Chief Ha's continuous request. Dowook nodded and suddenly remembered.
"I want to go right away, but I'm on duty right now…"
Chief Ha's face changed as he subtly complained. Chief Ha, who took a glance at Bae Ji Man, swallowed a sigh and waved.
"Just go. It's not even a day or two that I fill in for you."
"Will you? If you could also take over the evening round."
Dowook with a quick bow stood up from his seat.
"Then I’ll leave first and go up to the VIP room."
Dowook left the office to take care of the hospital’s future.
Bae Ji Man, who was sitting with a stern look on his face, suddenly looked back at Chief Ha, who looked dejected by the shock of being on duty as a chief.
Awkward silence.
"You're working so hard, Chief Ha. I left my luggage behind…….”
"It's fine, you don't have to be sorry. Park Dowook, you cruel guy. In the meantime, you came in like this."
Dowook stood in front of Room 2007 after a long time.
‘Since we saw each other in the new year, it's been almost 3 weeks?’
Until now, he couldn't say hello because he had no time to breathe during training or surgery. By the way, she seemed to have been busier.
knock, knock
He knocked on the door and waited, but someone he hadn’t met before suddenly stuck out his head. A man in a suit, who appeared to be in his early thirties, asked while looking at Dowook.
"Who are you?"
"Manager Moon. That's Park Dowook."
Behind the man, he greeted Secretary Ok happily.
Dowook had no choice but to look inside the open door and swallow the groan.
Documents piled up without a break. Five strangers busily going back and forth between them.
Secretary Ok came close to Dowook, who was standing in a daze.
"It's a mess, right? There's so much to organize."
"Who are these people?"
"The director’s subordinates. This is ZQ Investment Group's accounting adjustment team."
A middle-aged man asked as he passed by Secretary Ok.
"Sangah, where is the business report for the 4th quarter of last year at Rheumatology Internal Medicine?"
"There in the third pile at the end of the table.”
"Thank you."
Secretary Ok turned back to Dowook and continued.
"The director is in full swing, so even if I talk to her, she doesn't respond. Would you like a cup of tea?”
Dowook looked at Lim So Yool, who was paying attention to the document with her hair tied up inside the reception room. Her dark circles looked more prominent because of her white skin.
"Director Lim, how many hours did she sleep?"
"That's…"
Feeling the reprimand in Dowook’s tone, Secretary Ok looked worried.
"If you're going to answer beyond the margin of error, please stop. You have to narrow it down to seconds to make a diagnosis accordingly."
Secretary Ok smiled lightly because it was not what ordinary doctors would say. Secretary Ok knew how this young doctor had treated Lim So Yool, how Lim So Yool had reacted, and everything. So she told the truth.
"She slept for less than three hours this week.”
"Are you that busy?"
"Yes. Enough to convene all the accounting experts at the Korean branch."
Dowook nodded and looked at Lim So Yool again.
She had a kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder and couldn’t sleep if she didn’t solve a problem when she was into numbers.
From his experience so far, there was only one prescription that could properly help here.
"Secretary, is that for the director? I'll bring it to her."
Secretary Ok smiled and handed over the tray to Dowook.
Swipe.
Lim So Yool lined up the variables in the notes in a hurry.
Embezzlement, bribery, external pressure, internal transactions…….
The negative numbers that made up the hospital's finances were very extensive. In particular, it was not easy to estimate the size of the money because there were no obvious records.
In order to raise funds in line with the vice dean’s New Year's plan, all of these variables had to be recovered and returned to the flow of funds in sunny places.
"Well…"
A headache from thinking over and over again.
"Do it while drinking tea. It's hot."
She unconsciously reached out to the voice next to her. She started searching for numbers again, using sugar to supplement energy to her brain.
Swish, swish.
How long had it been?
Sweet liquid no longer flowed out of the mug, so she put it down, and a piece of paper poured into the side of the desk.
"Sleep."
Pharmaceutical company that exchanged transactions with a clinic inside the hospital. It was a flow of numbers that gave temporary preferential treatment and gained unfair benefits there.
This was quite a lump that could be absorbed with the funds of sunny land.
"What is it, Manager Moon? If I can find it like this…….”
Lim So Yool, who raised her head, blinked in embarrassment as she mistook Dowook for Moon Kwang-min because of their similar physique.
