Chapter 118 An Eye for an Eye, Mr Sallow?

“Nicholas, it hurts!”

“Save me, Nicholas!

Madelline pitifully sobbed as she swiftly buried herself in Nicholas’ arms.

Nicholas turned to look at Nancy with deep eyes as he wrapped Madelline in his embrace.

Nancy merely stood there. She did not even twitch or blink.

The knife in her hand was still dripping with warm blood as the metallic scent of blood filled the

air.

When she saw Nicholas embracing Madelline, her eyes remained cold and composed. Nothing about her facial expression changed.

If it were any other time, she would be extremely worried, panicking over the possibility he would misunderstand her intentions.

Yet, none of that was important now.

Nothing was important. She did not care about what he would do or say after witnessing this.

She did not care what he thought of her. He could think of her as evil, vicious, and ruthless. She couldn’t care less.

This was likely what people called falling out of love and giving up hope.

This was what it was like for them when the other party’s opinion no longer mattered.

“If you’re so worried about her, hurry up and carry your sweet lover to the nearest doctor for treatment. If you dally any longer, she might die.” Nancy drawled calmly as she stared back at Nicholas.

He seemed to be staring at her in disbelief.

At that moment, she was like a stranger. She was not the Nancy he knew.

The Nancy he knew was a kind and caring woman who would treat an injured bird with utmost. care before setting it free. She would not even dare to step on a bug.

Nancy was someone who would be happy when others were happy and sad when others were in pain.

Yet, her eyes were too cold to belong to the Nancy he knew. There was a shroud of frosty mist clouding her eyes, leaching out all warmth from her gaze.

She was acting way too cold.

“It hurts, Nicholas. Let’s go to the doctor. I feel like I’m going to die.” Madelline continued to shrink into his embrace. Her acting could pui Janus to shame.

He turned to look at Nancy’s bloody hand. It was no longer clear whether the blood came from the knife or the wound on her arm.

“Your hand…”

He had just started speaking when Nancy interrupted him and stated without hesitation, “There’s no need to ask. I know what your question is. I did it. I stabbed Madeine in the chest with this knife.”

She bluntly admitted to the crime. It was a direct confession that was not obfuscated in any way. Since that was the answer he wanted, she would grant him that.

However, Nicholas’ black eyes turned colder instead of softening when he heard that. It was like a great blizzard was raging in his eyes, making it hard for anyone to see what he was thinking.

Nancy chuckled as scornful mockery flashed in her eyes. Nicholas was truly hard to please. She had already confessed just as he wanted her to. So, what else did he want?

“Why are you laughing?” he asked with his black eyes locked onto her.

“I’m laughing at how deeply in love you are with your sweet lover, Mr. Sallow.”

Although she had confessed to the crime, he was still not happy with it.

What did he want then?

An eye for an eye?

Nancy slowly walked closer to him. While he looked calm on the outside, emotions were warring inside him.

He could clearly sense that she had turned into a completely different person after the car crash.

She was no longer the meek and demure young woman he knew. She became stronger, colder, and even more tragic.

While he was rushing to save Madelline, he kept thinking of how Nancy coldly told him to leave. Later on, she called him and pleaded with him while sobbing.

In all honesty, his heart had already melted into a puddle of goo.

Unfortunately, he was wrong. He had been very wrong.

He thought she was simply fighting with Madelline to prove she held a place in his heart.

Since a person’s life was at risk, he had no choice but to choos comforting Nancy.

to save Madelline before

Yet, he had not expected everything to be real. Nancy had actually gotten into a car crash and was severely injured.

It was a stormy day. Nancy was terrified of storms. He couldn’t even imagine how terrified and dejected she had been that day!

When he closed his eyes, he would instantly think of her bloody figure stuck in the mud as the storm raged around her. Even though she was bleeding, she called him. What did he do? He rejected her.

He was her husband, the man who was meant to be the closest individual to her in this world.

Nevertheless, he abandoned her when she needed him.

His heart was filled with remorse. Still, he knew all too well that there was no turning back the clock.

He owed her this, but just how should he make it up to her?

He had it all planned out. First, he would save Madelline and send her overseas to another continent. That way, he would be able to cut off all contact with her since they had at least a whole continent between them. From then on, they would continue to live out their lives separately like two strangers.

If that was the only way to calm Nancy down and make her stop worrying, he was happy to do so.

Unfortunately, it was too late. He was one step behind.

Nancy took another step closer to Nicholas.

Suddenly, she let out a loud hiss as her brows furrowed.

Agonizing pain shot up her feet as fresh blood dripped onto the floor.

She had stepped on some glass shards.

When Madelline walked out, Nancy angrily smashed a glass against the floor. As she did not slip. on her slippers when she got out of bed, Nancy was currently stepping on what had to be the shattered remains of the glass.

“Nancy!” Nicholas shouted in worry. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine. You need not worry yourself, Mr. Sallow,” Nancy coldly replied.

She looked at the distance between him and her before deciding to reach out and hand him her knife. “I injured Madelline, and I have already confessed to the deed. Since you are so upset about it, I will give you a chance to stab me in return. I’m within reach, and I won’t back away.”

Even as she said that, she could not resist the sorrow rising in her.

This was fine, was it not?

Once he stabbed her, they were even. All ties between them would h

reason for them to be stuck together.

“You actually think that’s what I want?”

cut. There would be no

Distress and anger surged through him. Why did she think he wanted vengeance?

Was he that kind of man in her eyes?

First of all, he did not believe she intentionally injured Madelline. Even if she did, he would never hurt his own wife.

Regrettably, his statement had a different meaning in Nancy’s mind.

“Is that so?” She chuckled. “Do you plan to have the police arrest me so I’ll be imprisoned according to law?”

“If that’s the only way to calm your fury, to assure yourself you had ensured justice was served, then I’m sorry. I will never plead guilty when it comes to Madelline.”

“That’s not what I meant, Nancy. You have misunderstood,” he said, looking at her as his heart throbbed in pain.

“What did you mean then? Are you saying that none of this is to your satisfaction? Will you only be happy when I’m dead?” Nancy almost screamed her last question with all her might.
