Chapter 139 She Still Loves Him

Nancy and Nicholas arrived at the company together.

Interestingly, despite being married for two years, this was her first visit to his office.

The towering skyscraper was located in a prime location. Upon arrival, Nancy suggested, “You go ahead and handle your business; I’ll wait downstairs.”

“Wait for me in my office.”

“It’s alright.” Nancy shook her head. “I’ve never been there in the past two years, and our marriage has never been publicized either. If I suddenly show up with you, it will raise a lot of questions. I’ll browse around the nearby shopping center instead.”

Nicholas frowned and then spoke dominantly, “You can go to my office by yourself, or I can carry you

there.”

A speechless Nancy sighed and looked at him. “Do you have to make it this difficult for me?”

“As you said, we’re about to divorce. Consider this my last time making it difficult for you!” Nicholas retorted, his gaze deep and unrelenting.

“Very well.” Nancy stood up. “You go up first. I’ll be there in a moment.”

They compromised, and Nicholas nodded. “Alright.”

About ten minutes after he went upstairs, Nancy stood up and headed for the elevator.

As she pushed the door open and entered the office, she was momentarily stunned. It was spacious and spotless. Massive floor-to-ceiling windows bathed the room in bright light.

The office environment was surprisingly nice. However, it was quite different from her expectations of luxury and opulence. Instead, it exuded extreme simplicity and cleanliness, which, upon reflection, seemed to align with Nicholas’ style. In his professional life, he was undoubtedly efficient and meticulous.

Just then, sounds came from the direction of the blinds–the sound of the door being pushed open and people speaking. There seemed to be a meeting.

Nancy glanced through the gap in the curtains and saw Nicholas walking into the room in a black suit. When they had visited his grandparents’ home earlier, he had been wearing casual attire.

He had now changed into a black suit. He looked elegant and confident, striding with long, graceful steps. He moved gracefully, taking a seat at the front of the meeting room.

As he bent over, his tie lay neatly on the table. He had an air of authority about him.

The morning sunlight streamed in, casting beautiful silhouettes on his handsome face.

Nancy watched him, finding herself entranced.

Inside the meeting room, discussions were in full swing. Nicholas sat quietly at the front, listening attentively. Once everyone had finished speaking, his sharp gaze scanned the room, and his deep voice reached Nancy’s cars.

At that moment, she could hear the pounding of her heart, quick and intense. It seemed that no matter how much time had passed, she would still find herself drawn to his world.

Over the past decade, she had seen many different sides of Nicholas. The earnestness he displayed. while studying, the effortless and assertive way he wrote, his confident presence on the sports field, and even more intimate moments like him bathing and sleeping beside her. She had also witnessed him in the throes of passion, his gaze wild and almost feral.

She had seen so many facets of him, and each was etched into her memory, profound and vivid, intimately familiar. But one thing she had never seen was his work mode.

It was said that a man was most attractive and handsome when he was immersed in his work, especially when he wore a well-fitted suit and focused intently. Nancy used to think this statement was exaggerated until this day when she realized it was entirely accurate.

Nicholas just sat there. Whether it was the contours of his profile, his attentive listening, or his focused writing, it all made her heart race uncontrollably.

Nancy reached out and couldn’t help but place her hand on her chest. She knew that her heart was helplessly racing for him, but she was too exhausted. She had drained all her energy long ago.

Quickly pulling down the curtains, Nancy walked to the other side of the floor-to-ceiling windows and gazed at the scenery below, taking deep breaths.

She couldn’t continue thinking about him. She needed to forget, and she had to forget.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Nancy turned to see Lynn entering with a tray of items. After placing them on the table, he began, “Mrs. Sallow, these are some snacks Mr. Sallow asked me to prepare for you, along with some hot chocolate. He mentioned that you like it and specifically requested that I get it for you.”

Nancy’s gaze fell on the beautifully prepared cup of hot chocolate, and she was pleasantly surprised. “Hot chocolate? He asked you to buy this?”

“Yes, Mr. Sallow personally instructed me to do so. He even chose this flavor himself, saying it’s your favorite.

Nancy was naturally surprised. “How did he know?”

Lynn scratched his head. “I’m not sure about that. Mrs. Sallow, please enjoy it while it’s hot. It won’t taste good if it gets cold. I’ll step out now, but feel free to call me if you need anything.”

“Alright, thank you?

Lynn turned to leave and reached the door. Suddenly, Nancy remembered something and called out. “Lynn?”

“Yes, Mrs. Sallow? How may I assist you?”

“No specific request, I just wanted to ask when he’ll be done with the meeting”

“That depends on the discussion. It’s hard to say for sure. It could be relatively quick, or it might go on until midnight.”

Midnight? Nancy furrowed her brows. “Does it often go on until that late? Does he frequently work such long hours?”

“Mr. Sallow is very dedicated and responsible when it comes to his work. He personally oversees most major projects, so sometimes, it can be quite challenging. Working late is not uncommon for him,” Lynn explained.

Nancy nodded and fell into contemplation.

In the early days of their marriage, they often went for long periods without seeing each other. Especially in the evenings, Nicholas would return very late, and she had always assumed he was busy with work-related social events..

Out of fear of bothering him, she never asked, and he never explained. Thus, she really had not understanding of this. Looking back, she realized that from the very beginning, Nicholas had never given her an opportunity to get to know him better. He had decided to distance himself from her and proceed with the divorce as soon as their marriage began.

In retrospect, it was quite ironic.

Her gaze once again fell on the cup of hot chocolate on the table. Nancy picked it up-it was cherry- flavored, her favorite.

He had never paid attention to such details before. When did he discover it?

If this cup of hot chocolate had arrived earlier, she would have been pleasantly surprised, thrilled, and overjoyed. However, it had come too late.

Still, she held it carefully, sipping it like a precious treasure.

After savoring the entire cup of hot chocolate, accompanied by the warm afternoon sunlight, Nancy started to feel drowsy.

She rested against the couch and drifted off to sleep. The book in her hand slipped onto her lap. The sunlight bathed her profile, giving her a gentle and beautiful appearance, resembling that of a serene fairy.

This was the sight that greeted Nicholas as he entered his office.

Nancy’s sleeping face was so exquisite that he couldn’t bear to disturb her in the slightest.

As he observed her peaceful slumber, he approached and couldn’t resist reaching out to gently stroke her soft cheek.
