Chapter 142

Chapter 142 You Idiot, You’re The Ten-year Crush!

Nancy swiftly wiped away the tears from her face. “No, I was just reminiscing about some things from the past, and it suddenly made me a bit emotional. It’s nothing. I’m fine now,” she said, forcing a smile

to conceal her true emotions.

“Really? You’re not lying to me, are you? What made you so sad? Can you tell me?” Nicholas was naturally somewhat skeptical.

“Just some old stories that don’t need to be mentioned. By the way, didn’t we say we were going to have dinner? I only had a light lunch; I’m really hungry now.”

“Alright, then. Where do you want to eat?” Nicholas asked.

“The street outside Pinnacle High School,” Nancy replied without hesitation.

This location was something she had decided on earlier.

Originally, she had thought that if she ever returned with him, she would bring back beautiful. memories. But now, all she could think of was sadness and sorrow.

Well, it was still a good place to say goodbye.

Let it end where it all began.

At least, it was an amicable parting.

However, Nicholas was quite surprised. He curiously asked, “You seem to have a special fondness for Pinnacle High School.”

“Yeah?” Nancy smiled but didn’t explain.

The sky turned dark much later on summer nights. When the two arrived at Pinnacle High School, the sky was still bright, and they were just in time for the sunset.

A large expanse of fiery clouds appeared in the sky. Shades of orange, red, and deep red formed a beautiful painting. It was incredibly stunning.

The afterglow filled the entire sky.

Nancy looked up happily. The sun’s rays fell on her petite face, making her look even more gentle and beautiful.

“It’s so beautiful!”

A gentle breeze blew.

Everything was so perfect, but her heart felt as heavy as lead.

In the end, since everything began here, it had to end here as well.

“Nicholas, have you been back here since you graduated?” Nancy asked.

He shook his head. “I haven’t had the time to come back since I graduated, except for the time I came with you. Why do you ask? Have you dropped by often?”

Nancy nodded. “Yes, I’ve been coming here every year, sometimes as many as three or four times when I’m free. But I come here at least once a year.”

“Why?”

Nancy smiled and looked at Nicholas. At that moment, she faced the wind and laughed like a child. filled with youth and liveliness. She was flawlessly beautiful.

“Because of nostalgia. The most beautiful and happiest years of my youth were spent here.”

How could she not be nostalgic?

The most beautiful and happiest years of her youth?

At that moment, the first thing that came to Nicholas’ mind was “him”-the man she had silently loved and buried in her heart for ten years.

“Is…” Nicholas began.

But when it came to saying the words, he couldn’t bring himself to ask her the question.

He admitted that he was afraid. He was dreading it, truth be told.

He feared hearing her answer, and he feared hearing a definite one even more.

If he did, he would truly go mad with jealousy.

At least now, he could continue to deceive himself. As long as Nancy did not say anything, Nicholas could continue to pretend he didn’t know and numb himself.

At least that way, it wouldn’t hurt so much.

“What do you want to eat?” Nicholas changed the subject.

Nancy pointed to a pasta restaurant across the street. “I want pasta. How about you?”

“I’ll have pasta with you.”

“Okay,”

They went to the restaurant together. Since it was dinner time, there were quite a few people inside. Fortunately, the place was spacious, so even with many customers, it still felt roomy.

After they found a table by the window, Nancy sat down.

The waitress quickly handed them menus and then, because she was so busy, hurried off to another table.

“Do take a look at the menu first, and let me know what you want to order,” the waitress said before busily attending to another table.

Nancy nodded. “Alright. Go ahead and do what you need to.”

This was typical for a small eatery. They couldn’t provide the same level of service as a high-end restaurant, but it was affordable and convenient for students in the area.

“I’d like some tomato spaghetti. How about you? What do you want?” Nancy asked Nicholas.

“I’ll have the same.”

Nancy paused for a moment. Just then, the soft and coquettish voice of a girl came from a nearby table. “Aw, let’s not order that. I want chili garlic pasta. The carbonara one isn’t good at all. Alright, alright. I promise I’ll just eat the spicy one this time. Next time, I’ll listen to you and eat something milder. The girl spoke while batting her eyelashes and making cute gestures,

She looked truly adorable.

Soon, Nancy heard the boy relent, “Okay. I’ll agree to it one more time, but no next time!”

Listening to this, Nancy couldn’t help but smile.

As expected of a sweet young love-it was so heartwarming.

Although Nancy was someone who had been married for two years, she didn’t find it cloying at all. Instead, she found it the epitome of sweetness.

Yes, that was what love was all about-sweet and tender moments filled with pampering and spoiling each other.

If love didn’t involve a bit of silliness, playful acting, clinginess, and impulsiveness, could it even be considered love?

Nancy was envious of them.

It was a pity, though. She had long outgrown that stage.

Her heart seemed to have been worn down without any cuteness or sweetness left, and there was no more passion or impulsiveness.

Therefore, her admiration grew even stronger.

The moment Nancy looked at them, she felt like she was back in her student days.

Love was so simple then, and what they wanted was straightforward.

Looking at Nicholas again, she suddenly summoned the courage and asked, “Since our tastes are the same, do you want to share a large portion with me?”

“Sure.”

Afraid that there might be a misunderstanding Nancy explained. The large portions here aren’t served in separate bowls. Two people share a plate of noodles with two sets of cutlery.”

“Sure, one large portion it is,” Nicholas repeated.

3/4

His words were simple but clear and firm.

“Hi, we’d like a large portion of tomato spaghetti.” Nancy raised her hand and placed an order.

The spaghetti arrived quickly. It was a steaming large portion of tomatoes and fresh mozzarella on pasta, and it exuded an enticing aroma,

On the table, there were two sets of cutlery. Nicholas and Nancy almost simultaneously dipped their forks into the plate.

Nancy grabbed some tomato chunks while Nicholas opted for a meatball. However, they soon realized that their forks had become entangled, crossing paths with each other.

In that moment, their gazes met amidst the steam rising from the spaghetti, and their faces took on a hazy, dreamlike quality.

In an instant, it seemed as though they could hear the rapid, fervent beating of their own hearts.

Clearly, their hearts were racing!

Yet, they both struggled to conceal their emotions, maintaining an air of nonchalance.

“You go ahead,” Nicholas withdrew his hand.

After Nancy speared a piece of tomato with her fork, he then picked up a meatball.

As Nicholas lowered his head to eat, Nancy watched him and suddenly froze. Her heart began to pound heavily.

Ten years.

She hadn’t anticipated that the wish she had made all those years ago would actually come true.

Although it was far too late, and the circumstances had changed significantly, the fact that it had come true still brought her joy.

“What’s the matter?” Nicholas inquired, noticing that she wasn’t eating and seemed lost in thought.
