Chapter 216 - Names Engraved At Heart
Chapter 216 - Names Engraved At Heart
Klautz saw the girl as just a pawn that had once further Kishiogakure's interests and now would be furthering his own.
While it was true that the girl had once attacked him in the bonus stage, but Klautz barely held any forms of strong feelings towards the event. One must remember that Klautz couldn't even recall the girl's name. That was the kind of importance he gave to the girl. Absolutely nothing.
Sense of Justice? Klautz had none. He didn't care about the deaths of the newbies either. His own interests took priority.
'Let bygones be bygones.' Klautz thought.
The girl was just a fish that had already fallen in Klautz's trap. Now whether Klautz fries it or keeps it at the aquarium was his decision to make.
But capturing her wouldn't be the end of Klautz's trouble. He has to find a way to stop this manhunt as well before the word of it gets out. Klautz was fully aware that while he himself didn't care about the deaths of the newbies, there were many who did. And their numbers were enough to throw hell into chaos.
'This might also be a good opportunity,' Klautz thought.
Klautz wasn't the kind of person who believed in faith or fortuitous encounters. Those were something that could only exist in tales and alike. Rather he believed in creating opportunities rather than relying on fortunate encounters.
All in all, exporting information from her was the most pragmatic approach to the solution. And there would be no man in the tower who was as pragmatic as him.
Yet something about the whole matter caused a knot to form even on his stone hard heart.
The nature of the letter was a ninja mission. In fact, it followed the same format as an issued mission. It reminded Klautz of the bulletin board that he used to visit every morning in his previous life to do his 'slave work'.
Nothing irked Klautz more than such an event. And the very thought of following that letter as orders made him want to retch.
He had promised himself not to go back to his old ways in this life. Then how could he turn back on the promise he had made to himself? Not to mention that he wasn't even getting paid anything.
'Fuck, I would have rather worked for Shizu than him! Damn Akihiko!'
Shizu was quite the sugar mommy for Klautz. For he was getting money from her without doing practically anything for purposes unknown. In fact, not only him, but the same was also true for Verona as well. That showed how much loaded she was and how much loose she was of the same money. She would have made a perfect client for Klautz.
Klautz tried to calm himself down.
'You can't back down. You work only for yourself. Akihiko is just giving clues! Nothing else!'
Klautz reminded himself. The trauma he had wasn't something that he could get rid of so easily. But he couldn't turn down an opportunity either. For Klautz rarely worked based on emotions.
Klautz would only regret later and call himself a fool if he killed the girl here. He needs to uproot the problem at the very roots.
Klautz eyes traveled across the room as it traveled along with the girl. The girl already left her mark in the room and walked away closing the door behind her.
*Swish*
Klautz came out of hiding.
"Enjoy while you have your freedom," he whispered.
Klautz had no idea why she would work with the ninjas but she was going to pay heavily for it.
Klautz eyes traveled to where she was fiddling and his eyes fell on the plushie she had left behind. It was a small toy about the size of a newborn baby and shaped in the form of a wolf.
The sight of the wolf made Klautz remember the guy that had died at his hands trying to save her.
The sight of the wolf made Klautz remember a rather peculiar wolf boy that he had once killed.
"Stefan…," Klautz whispered.
Somehow Klautz did remember the name of the deceased. He didn't know if it was a habit of his past life but Klautz vividly remembers the name of every face that he had killed even though he had forgotten about everyone else. Take the girl, for example. Klautz had no recollection of what her name was.
Stefan had once saved the girl but the act had caused his own death under Klautz death. Even his power to transform into a half wolf didn't help him endure Klautz's slash.
At that time Klautz had dubbed his actions to be foolish. But now he couldn't help but wonder… if someday Verona was in danger. Would Klautz endanger himself to save her?
That was a question that was hard for Klautz to answer.
Klautz shook his head.
"I would never allow things to escalate up to that point!"
Klautz was always thorough with his calculation so as to ensure that such events never came to pass. He chose to avoid the question that he had asked himself.
Klautz picked up the toy.
"The Ability of hers has a severe flaw," he whispered as he dusted the object of the dust accumulated on it.
Klautz lips arched to a devilish smile..
The girl can teleport anywhere where this wolf toy was. But it went both ways. She could very well be transported to an unknown place as long as she triggers one of her lost toys by mistake.
And Klautz knew that she would be triggering the one he was holding tonight.
"Could things be more convenient than this?" Klautz smirked.
Now Klautz doesn't even have to worry to kidnap her without getting into the eyes of the guards. She would be coming to Klautz herself!
