Shinobi From Hell

Chapter 231 - Horned Forest

Chapter 231 - Horned Forest

Evelyn took out a doll out of her inventory.

'One here too.'

Evelyn bent low as he placed a plushie close to a large tree. The tree had several wooden protrusions that seemed like horns coming out from the trees itself.

It seemed to be a defensive mechanism that was unique to the [Horned forest] owing to its name.

Evelyn sighed as she left the site.

Soon enough she found herself back with Gozoto's guard and her team members. No matter how many teleporting points she leaves behind it would be pointless in the face of absolute power. But she could only aim for the best and hope that everything would go as planned.

"Would it really work out?" she had her doubts regarding her own plans.

She crossed her arms in front of her as if forming a barrier in front of her to shield her from dangers and the stern looks of the ones around her,

She didn't trust Klautz as things were. Klautz didn't seem like a trustworthy person to her,, but given the circumstances what else choice did she have? Sooner or later she had to face the representative of Kishiogakure no matter what.

It was then… her clairvoyant predictions become true. Once again she found herself helpless to the situation.

*Tring* *Tring*

A bell rang in the ominous forest causing all the newbies to flinch with widened eyes. They had heard it many times but still hadn't gotten used to the gloomy noises in the equally gloomy and deathly forest filled with beasts and deaths.

The sound of the bell seemed like a worshipper of Satan sending prayers to the same.

The guard leading the team nodded in realization, upon sensing the ominous bell. He beckoned the other newbies to follow him as Evelyn was left behind all alone. The newbies had no other choice but to cross their fingers and follow the man who seemed to be a wall of strength in the face of their mesley selfs.

*Gulp*

Evelyn had tried her best to prepare herself for this moment. But when faced with it for real, knowing that she was betraying 'them'. Her fears became a reality.

*Tring*  *Tring*

The sound of the bell got thicker and thicker as man shrouded a cloak walked closer and closer. He seemed to have thin arms and legs… nothing too fancy. But Evelyn knew better. It was hard to discern the forces behind him at first glance.

As the man walked closer, Evelyn felt as if the Shinigami himself had taken birth to haunt her to death.

It wasn't until the man came close enough to Evelyn that he stopped and pulled over his cloak.

What greeted her was a man with young and average features with a frowning face.

Usually whenever this man makes a visit, he always had the smirk on his face that Evelyn vividly remembers. It was if  he was looking down on Evelyn as a human being of lower worth. It was as if he was having a thrill toying with her. But today there was an air of annoyance around him.

Evelyn gulped.

"You are slacking off quite a bit I see." He continued, "What kind of excuse are you going to give me today?"

His pinched expression as if pierced Evelyn's very soul! Evelyn couldn't figure out how to reply.

Last time, Evelyn had screwed up in killing her target due to Klautz's presence and today too she was taken away by the same Klautz into a world of ice. She wasn't sure what kind of reply she should give.

Should she tell that someone captured her and knew about their little secret? No, that would only lead to her death.

That was when she remembered Klautz's words.

[Stall for as much time as possible. We need a bit of time to clear the ones hiding behind him. We will take their ignorance against them and lead them to their downfall.]

The ninjas were unaware of Klautz's presence. Thus it was the biggest variable that Klautz had chosen to play with. It might seem like a simple ambush to those who would read its records in the future. But only Klautz knew how difficult it was to pull off with his weakened strength. He isn't the same Klautz who used to be strong in his previous life.

But fortunately Klautz had one factor to his side. All the ninjas especially those from Kishiogakure didn't work in groups.

Klautz guessed that all of them would be lurking seperate posts as they kept an eye on the representative and guarded him from any danger.

Klautz's job was to kill them one by one, but he had to do so without alarming them. For that time was needed. And Evelyn was the best person for this considering her strategic position in all of this.

'You can do this.'

Evelyn shook a light nod unnoticed by Ty, as if to assure herself.

She turned towards the representative of the ninjas with eyes filled with resolve as she began to speak.

"I had made proper preparations for the attack and was also keeping an eye on them…"

Evelyn continued to speak as she gave gibberish excuses and reasons which the representative couldn't help but listen to the very end of it.

Part of being a representative was to process all sorts of information from the client. So no matter how absurd their statements were they had to keep a record for it.

Such was the case for Evelyn too. Even though she was no client. Not keeping her accounts would cause a backlash for the representative who was hungry for every opportunity to raise his rank.

'I cannot make any mistakes.'

The man was blinded by greed for that was the only thing he could aim for.

The representative had no choice but to listen to her accounts.
