Chapter 249 - Dark Future
Chapter 249 - Dark Future
Benton wept in solitude.
The memories that Benton had associated with the camp were bitter in every way. The newbie camp that was supposed to be a symbol of peace had a darker history than one might think.
??When his master had died he had considered this place her legacy but as time went by and his horizons opened up accustoming him to the true value of the newbie camp, his thoughts began to change.
He began to believe that he had lost his 'important as mother' person for a stupid cause. His master was fooled!
None had come out of the newbies to be considered a noteworthy powerhouse throughout the eight grilling years. At least Benton had never heard of any one of such standing. They couldn't even match up to the weak second gens of the small guilds!
The only thing the slightly good ones did was become the followers of the other guilds and become their dogs. Just like a dog they were fed when their master wished for their service and was left to starve whenever possible. And this was only the fate awaiting for the 'slightly good ones.' The weaker ones had it worse.
"The weaker ones are just getting pulled into the ninja villages day after day and becoming their tools! Is this what you have strived for? To increase the numbers and force of those cowardly villages?"
Except for special cases like 'Maebi', most of the newbies that were pulled into the ninja village were worthless ants that were tossed aside by all of the guilds. The guilds didn't consider it worth an investment to have those weak newbies amongst them.
But when it came to the villages? Would they have to spend even a penny for the ninjas? They wouldn't! The ninjas were a tool to be used. Their low wages were enough for them to survive. They didn't need anything else.
Due to the very nature of the ninja villages as 'hidden' and 'unfound', the newbies who were trapped there were not even to escape either no matter how many years they strived.
This was unlike the guilds where the individuality of at least the power horses was respected. After all, they were the defensive walls for their guilds.
But for the ninja villages? Even the powerhouses had no more respect than a tool. For neither did the village needed to defend itself due to its hidden nature nor did any ninja that betrayed them escaped alive no matter how powerful he was.
No guilds considered it worth an investment to pick those weakling newbies up. As such the only fate waiting for them was being pulled away into the black hole of the hidden villages. Before they knew the newbie camp had become a haven for picking up new tools for the ninja villages.
The past of the camp that was unknown to Klautz had nothing but been tragic. The future of the camp that was not known by Benton had also been tragic. And even the present was no better. The fate of the earth borns had been ridden with bumps of only down and down with no ups.
[We are inclined to save them… not because we are superior to them and see them as our followers and loyal subjects. But it is because there is no difference between the two sides of hell. They are the sides of the same coin. We and the earth born are essentially the same.]
That was what Benton's master had told him as she patted his head before leaving. At that time Benton was driven with awe and respect for her, but now that he thinks of those sentiments, nothing but foolishness comes to find.
The earth borns are from a world of peace. While the hells folk were from a God forsaken world. How could they be the same? There might be no difference biologically but isn't that the very reason what makes them alien to each other?
Had humanoid reigned from outer space in the world of the earth would they have considered them as their brothers? No, they wouldn't. It would have been an all out war.
Hell, humans didn't consider the people of their own planet as their brothers as they had made many an attempt to enslave them. The difference in cultures is what made them alien to each other and alienated them against each other.
"I don't understand what is keeping us from wiping them out."
Benton considered the earth borns to be responsible for the death of his master. Had this place not been his master's legacy he would have long crushed it down with his troops no matter what the cost might have been.
Benton wiped his tears. His eyes had turned red as he winced. The ideal Benton would have never cried in front of anyone. But in his private space, he never stopped his tears.
"I don't care anymore. Let this place be doomed… I don't even like to socialize here. But the responsibilities that I bear are too heavy to put aside. This place has no future but at least I have a future and I can't forsake it,.."
Benton stopped his word as he remembered a certain event from the time he had entered the camp. His pupils shook as he continued.
"This time however I met a man quite different from the others. I hope he doesn't disappoint you like the other newbies."
Benton was rather a young adult at the moment who was just 18. The time that he would actually plan to destroy the camp was still far into the future… At the moment it was nothing but a budding wish in his heart that he had no means to accomplish. Klautz was the only one who knew of the possibilities.
It was then…
