Chapter 78 - Nine Footsteps
Chapter 78 - Nine Footsteps
Selena fumbled as her leg got stuck on a tree root protruding from the forest ground. She landed on her palms and her knees as her skirt flipped up showcasing her perfect ass.
She was quick to put it down again at its proper place as she got up while dusting her hands and knees.
"What!" Lewis exclaimed. Unfortunately what happened had swept him off his feet.
He fumbled as the view had caught him off guard. The branch he was sitting on and hiding himself amongst its leaves broke with his extreme movements causing him to crash down to the forest floor.
*thud*
He landed on his butt.
Thankfully, the defense stat he had earned from Satan's system was enough to save his spine from being crushed into pieces with such a free fall from the tree top.
"Ow! Ow!"
He raised himself up as he rubbed his butt which was stinging with pain. The fall had left his butt swollen. It was then...
*swish*
A blade pierced the air making a ripping sound as it charged towards him. Out of pure luck he had ducked his head to the side at the deciding moment as the blade brushed past his ear, cutting off some of his hair. His strands of blonde hair fluttered as it sank down and fell motionlessly to the forest floor.
His eyes shot out wide in fright alone. The scene that was painted in his eyes had Klautz facing him with his right arm raised to shoulder height as if he had just thrown that sword.
He took a step back owing to his fright alone.
Getting back his sanity he deducted that the sword indeed came from Klautz and he intended to kill him with that throw. The intense killing intent that Klautz emanated pierced his very soul.
But, he was wrong! Klautz had mistook his fumbling motions as an attempt to attack him. This was what caused Klautz to relalite. It was a great misunderstanding! In fact Klautz never intended to harm him in the first place.
Lewis didn't dare try anything funny. His mind ran like horses trying to find a way out.
*gulp*
At first, he was planning to escape from Klautz not confronting the monster in anyway but now it was all for nought. One silly mistake of his had left him completely exposed. Now that he was standing in front of him, he deduced that there was no way to escape... escape with him being exposed.
"I have to do something, fast!"
When faced with an intense amount of killing intent or an impending danger, there are usually two kinds of ways that one responds to such a situation.
Flight or Fight.
Regardless of what one chooses both signify a way to get rid of the impending danger. Their hearts won't be at rest unless they pick one of these actions… their animalistic instinct wouldn't allow their heart to rest.
Flight is the usual option. And most forms of prey choose to take this route.
But exceptions exist. And Lewis was one of them.
Klautz had intended for him to flee but Lewis chose to fight. Lewis had a feeling that no matter what he does he can't escape from him. He felt like the devil incarnate to the panic stricken Lewis.
But, he couldn't have been more wrong.
Klautz had nothing to do with him. Fighting or killing him would give him no major gains. That is why he had unleashed his killing intent in the first place. It was to give him the impression to stay away from him no matter what. But Klautz's intention to chase him away had backfired.
Taking out a dagger from his inventory he ran towards Klautz with the intent to kill.
Klautz was prepared to face him. He knows that fools like him always exist. But, something unusual happened that caused his to frown.
*thud* *thud*
Sounds of something or someone dropping from a considerable height resounded through the forests. This was followed by the sound of footsteps entering his ears. His ears twitched. These unusual sounds resonated from all eight directions.
"Seven… No, there are eight of them," Klautz said as his pupils moved left and right at the possible onslaught.
Klautz furrowed his brows.
"Strange, so many of them were there yet I couldn't detect the presence of a single one of them before. It's as if…"
They made their appearance from all directions. Some emerged from bushes while other emerged from the trees. Some appeared from the darkness of the shadows while others emerged under the broad daylight sun. It was then that Klautz realized that all of them had the same kind of identical face. Even their body structures were the same. There were around 9 on them.
"Clones?" Klautz gasped. Selena squeaked.
Klautz hadn't expected to face a clone user… at least not such early stages in hell. He knew this skill better than anyone. A lot of ninja back in Kishiokagure liked to use this. It was the most perfect type of skill for assassination and for tasks that require the user to be in multiple places at almost the same time.
The cloning skill wasn't anything unique. It was granted by Satan to anyone who could clear a specific trial. Depending on the type of the class the limits of what this skill could do can vary.
An A rank cloning skill can create more than fifty clones for the user. While lower rank skills couldn't create as many.
"What are they?" Selena couldn't help but ask. She felt like she was in some sort of horror movie with so many similar looking faces around her.
"Whatever," Klautz rolled his eyes as he got his Tosias's Spirit out and shape shifted it into his favorite sword.
