Chapter 1099: The Mysterious Haggard-Looking Man
At the same time, in the depths of Qianzhong Ridge.
“Lord Gang Leader, we have failed,” said a black-clothed man kneeling in front of an old man.
“We have failed?! How is this possible? Where is Elder Lu?” asked the old man in shock as he stood up.
This old man was dressed in black with a tall and thin figure. Although he was right in front of them, his physical presence felt a little vague. If Zhang Shizhao was present, he would definitely be greatly shocked. This old man was actually the gang leader of Shadow Kill Gang, one of the four major forces in Qianzhong Ridge: Situ Wuying.
“Elder Lu died in battle. And it hadn’t been easy for us to escape either,” said the black-clothed man with fear and trepidation.
“Dead? Elder Lu is dead? How could those trash and small fish fry from the Zhang family who had escaped from Golden Pill Sect have such strength?” Situ Wuying looked at the black-clothed man with suspicion.
“It wasn’t the descendants of the Zhang family or Golden Pill Sect, but the helpers that the Zhang family recruited from God-knows-where.” The black-clothed man quickly explained when he sensed Situ Wuying’s suspicious gaze.
“What exactly happened?” asked Situ Wuying as his face sank. The surrounding air immediately became cold and so oppressive that it made people shudder.
The man in black trembled as he recounted what had happened.
When Situ Wuying was done listening, he did not speak for a long time. His eyes seemed to be in deep thought as he stared at the man in black.
“Gang Leader, everything that I said is true. I’m not lying at all.” The Man in black thought that the leader did not believe his words and was so scared that his face turned pale.
“You can leave now. I have no more business with you.” Situ Wuying came back from his thoughts and waved his hand dismissively.
“Thank you for not killing me, Gang Leader. Thank you.” The man in black was ecstatic and bowed as he left.
Situ Wuying sat for a while more. He placed his hand on the armrest of the chair and pushed on it. The mechanism behind him opened, revealing a long secret path. He walked into the secret path and the mechanism behind him immediately closed.
As he walked along the secret passage, he came upon a spacious hall. The night lights on the wall emitted a dark glow. Upon closer inspection, the ground, dome, and the surrounding walls were engraved with ancient murals or mysterious scriptures. The atmosphere turned oddly strange as a gloomy aura expanded.
On the stone throne at the top of the hall sat a haggard-looking man.
The muscles on the man’s body had withered, leaving only a layer of skin wrapped around his bones. His two eyes were deeply sunken and only two deep black holes could be seen. He looked like a skeleton and it was hard to tell his age just from his appearance.
“Master.” Situ Wuying called out softly, as if he did not know whether the man on the throne was awake or in a deep sleep.
The man on the throne remained unmoving. Only Situ Wuying’s voice continued to echo in the hall.
“You’re here.” Just as Situ Wuying was about to turn around and leave, the man suddenly spoke. His voice was deep and dry, as if it came from another world. There was an indescribable coldness in his tone. To be more precise, it was as if he did not have a trace of humanity.
“Master, you’re awake,” said Situ Wuying as he hurriedly bowed. “I have something to report. The Zhang family recruited some experts of unknown origins who foiled our plans. Elder Lu—”
“Say no more. I already know.” That person interrupted Situ Wuying.
“Master, you’ve already recovered?” asked Situ Wuying in surprise.
