Chapter 173: The First Person in History
Ling Chuxi managed to calm down only after quite a while. She sighed before turning around and walking toward their campsite. As she did, she called out for Little White, but Little White still did not appear. When Ling Chuxi arrived at their campsite, she realized with a start that Little White was calmly sitting there waiting for her.
“Little White! You rascal. Where did you go? Do you know worried I was about you!” Ling Chuxi went forward and scooped Little White into her arms. Little White leaned its head on Ling Chuxi’s shoulder, narrowing its eyes slightly.
Xia Zhuoyi had already brought firewood back and had also caught two fat rabbits and a wild chicken. Once he turned around and saw Ling Yichen and Fu Chengyu making their way over, he shouted to Ling Yichen, “Yichen, skin the rabbits and the wild chicken.”
Ling Chuxi turned to look over at them while hugging Little White. Fu Chengyu looked much better than he did earlier. At present, Ling Chuxi carefully sized him up. He was wearing a royal blue robe embroidered with gold fringes and had a white belt fastened around his waist. A crystal-clear jade pendant was attached to it. One could tell at a single glance that it was expensive. His handsome face was pale, carrying a hint of illness. A white jade hairpin kept his ink-black hair bundled up, creating a stark contrast against his pale face and producing a strong visual impact. The soft smile on his face gave off a gentle feeling.
“Senior brother, sit and take a rest for a bit,” said Ling Yichen. He went over to prepare the two rabbits and the wild chicken after he finished speaking to Fu Chengyu.
“Miss Chuxi, thank you for your saving grace,” said Fu Chengyu with a gentle smile as he sat by Ling Chuxi’s side.
“There is no need to be so courteous. After all, it is what I should have done anyway,” replied Ling Chuxi with a nonchalant wave of her hand before she took out a few things from her backpack. These were the spices needed to season the meat for roasting.
Fu Chengyu didn’t say anything more as he quietly watched Ling Chuxi and the rest. Very quickly, Ling Yichen skinned the rabbits and washed them. He then brought them over to Ling Chuxi who skillfully skewered them and seasoned the rabbit meat with sesame oil and the spices she had brought out earlier before she started roasting them.
“Zhuoyi, are there any mushrooms around? Go pick some mushrooms so we can make soup,” instructed Ling Chuxi nonchalantly.
“We don’t have a pot though,” replied Xia Zhuoyi with a frown. “There are quite a few edible mushrooms nearby, but without a pot, how are we going to cook them?”
“It’s fine. We can use my pill furnace as a pot to cook the mushroom soup,” said Ling Chuxi without even raising her head as she spoke. “It is a little small, but let’s just compromise a bit. It’s in the big bag Yichen is carrying. Go search for it. Then clean it and bring it over.”
“Pfft—” guffawed Xia Zhuoyi. After he stifled his guffaw, he did not say another word and obediently went to look for the pill furnace. Ling Chuxi was absolutely the first person in history to use a pill furnace as a cooking pot. However, he did not feel even the least bit surprised and only felt that it was funny.
Both Fu Chengyu and Ling Yichen were speechless.
When Fu Chengyu saw Ling Yichen’s face wearing an expression that looked like he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, he saw that what Ling Yichen’s expression really showed was that he found this situation funny and that although he felt a little helpless to protest otherwise, he did not find this turn of events the least bit surprising. Ling Chuxi knew how to refine pills. This was something that he already knew. However, it was a little hard to comprehend a pill master using her own pill furnace as a pot. A young maiden was actually behind the doing of such an unbridled act. It indeed left people shocked. Yet, Ling Yichen did not seemed to be the least bit surprised by Ling Chuxi’s ways.
“Chuxi, if you ever meet a pill master, don’t say that you used your pill furnace as a pot,” said Ling Yichen, feeling a slight headache coming on. “I am worried those older pill masters would fight you to death, saying that you blasphemed the dignity of the pill master profession.”
“Please. Can dignity be eaten? They shouldn’t be so old-fashioned in their thinking!” sneered Ling Chuxi. “Shouldn’t so-called dignity be fought for with one’s own abilities? Since you have so much old-fashioned dignity, don’t drink the mushroom soup then.”
