Chapter 237 236: The Manager's Office
As Corey and Divine proceeded through the labyrinthine corridors of the Underworld Emporium, their footsteps masked by the shroud of silence, they could feel the weight of their mission pressing upon them. Every decision and every movement carried the potential to tip the scales in their favor or lead to catastrophic failure.
They moved to the top floors of the Emporium, something which would not be possible unless they possessed the qualifications like being an influential Underworld resident or a mystical being.
As the duo ascended using the stairs instead of the lifts, the number of security personnel in the Emporium increased, and Corey and Divine had to make sure they avoided every single trap and formation that was meant for intruders like them.
At some point, they encountered situations where the key card or fingerprint of an Emporium security personnel was needed to proceed.
Luckily for them, Divine already knew about this and the guards' movements.
.c?m Whenever two or more guards were to swap places, they would quickly pass through the open doors and continue going up the Emporium.
All in all, their operation had been going smoothly, and this was mainly due to Divine having insider information on most of the locations of specific formations and traps, the movements of the guards, and the locations of the cameras.
Their telepathic link remained their only means of communication, and it was through this silent connection that Divine conveyed their next steps. [Keep your senses sharp, Corey,] he thought, his mental voice resonating in Corey's mind.
[We're getting closer to the manager's office.]
Corey tensed up slightly as he realized they were about to reach the dangerous part of their plan.
When Divine told Corey what his plan was, Corey was baffled when Divine repeatedly stressed out how important it was that they reached the manager's office.
Corey thought Divine would want to reach the true treasury of the Emporium, but Divine told him that all of that would not matter if they did not acquire the most important thing from the manager's office.
And when Corey asked what it was, Divine solemnly told him:
"The Map of The Underworld."
The instant Divine told him this, Corey knew what Divine said was true.
What was the point in increasing their strength if they could not find a way to escape the Underworld?
If Corey had to choose between increasing his strength by another tier and escaping the Underworld, he would prefer to escape from the Underworld.
He wanted to save his sister, and with the appearance of the people of The Temple of Flames, Corey wished to leave the Underworld as soon as possible.
A few moments later, Corey and Divine stood in front of a wooden door. No Underworld official could be seen, and Divine and Corey were not surprised by this.
From what Divine knew, the Manager of the Emporium did not trust any of the present security personnel to guard the office.
Besides, the manager's office was definitely one of the most guarded places in the Emporium, and the defense around the office was something that would stress out a tier 5 if they wanted to break into the office.
Divine looked at the door for a few seconds, and then he waved his hands.
Two transparent-looking cloaks appeared in his hands. Then he gave one to Corey. Corey draped the cloak on his body. Then he looked at Divine, who had also done the same.
They walked away from the door, and after taking five steps, they stopped.
[This is the place?]
Corey asked, and Divine nodded.
[Are you ready?.]
Corey exhaled softly, and then he nodded.
Divine, seeing that, tightened his grip on Corey's hand slightly, and a few seconds later, Corey felt mana flowing from Divine's hand into his body.
Corey's face grimaced slightly as he felt his mana veins protest against the mana flowing through them.
Corey could feel his injuries worsening as the seconds passed, but he gritted his teeth and directed the mana into the cloak on his shoulders.
Divine, who previously had a worried look, released a breath of relief seeing Corey direct the mana into the cloak.
He also poured his mana into his cloak, and a few seconds later, the duo… vanished.
This was different from the Vanishing Ring, which altered a person's perception.
A soft pop resounded in the corridor, and if a person proficient in space were present, they would notice a disturbance in space.
(Inside The Manager's Office)
Corey and Divine appeared inside the office, and they looked around.
[It worked!]
Divine exclaimed with joy and relief in his tone. Corey also exhaled a soft breath of relief due to them passing one of their biggest obstacles.
The door and walls of the manager's office possessed powerful formations that alerted the manager and the security of the Underworld when an intruder tried to enter the office.
Corey and Divine could not break into the office, and neither could they use the guards to enter the office since none of them possessed the authority to enter.
Due to this, Divine created two artifacts that made one possess the ability to enter a different space, which rendered them invisible and also made them phase through physical objects.
It was similar to Limbo.
Although the artifact possessed a very remarkable ability, it had a limitation, which was that it could only be used once.
It was a one-time artifact.
However, even with the artifact, Corey and Divine could not pass through the door since the defensive formation on the door prevented movement through space.
As for the walls, although the formations on them could not prevent spatial movement, it would instantly alert the manager when there's a spatial movement in the walls.
This was not the first time Divine would be coming to the manager's office. He had met the manager on two occasions regarding some business propositions. And during those two occasions, Divine had silently tampered with a specific part of the formation of the wall.
It was due to his tampering that the formation could not alert the manager of their intrusion.
[Luckily, it worked.]
Divine thought, then he looked around with shiny eyes.
[Let's see what goodies are inside this place.]
