Volume 11 Chapter 12: The Church’s Welcome
Our airship had only just landed on the tarmac when a large red dot appeared on the minimap.
“Oh~ It looks like our welcome party is pretty grand. There’s 20 people there, almost as many as a Saint Execution Team.”
“Oh?”
I turned and gave Dale a curious look.
“What happened? That I understand it’s strange?”
Dale responded with a laugh.
“The average person wouldn’t understand this sort of thing, would they?”
“Of course. It’s no secret that the Church has started using the terminals we produce. Combat preparations, types of weapons, skills used, the background information on each person. Basically all of it is in the terminal network. Of course, the Pope and some of the Bishops don’t have well documented information. According to the information shown in there, that info is in their records and stored as writing.”
“Sounds good.”
I nodded.
“I feel like those must be very important.”
‘Hey, you’re trying to steal something now? We are surrounded by Saints and those guys are as aggressive as we are.”
“Must be?”
Dale shrugged.
“I meant in terms of importance.”
“Well, lets cooperate with them for a little bit.”
“I agree.”
The hatch slowly opened, Dale and I exited the cabin, but we were greeted by a large group of Saints, the strongest guardians of the Church.
It seems that the Church is still quite strong. Their fighting abilities are comparable to an empire’s army.
That’s right. Around 20 people can kill a formation of a thousand people. It’s no joke. I know they can do it because I can too.
“Lin Fir?”
A middle-aged man in a white robe asked us.
“I am, what’s wrong?”
While I said this, I opened the magic skills menu in front of me.
There is always a reason when these guys do something. Their target seems to be me right now and the only thing that I can think of that would cause that is because I am an Undead Holy Angel.
So, even though I am a human, if you went by the definition, I am a demon.
“Arcane · Sword of Light!”
A huge light magic array appeared behind him. The array rippled and countless light swords shot out from the array, shooting at me overwhelmingly.
“Electromagnetic……”
I reached out to stop Dale and, with a wave, an array of light appeared in front of me.
“Arcane · Angel’s Shield!”
The blades of light landed on the light shield. The shield flashed and completely absorbed them all.
Well. It had a better effect than what I expected.
Like the book said, light magic has an overwhelming advantage over dark magic and necromancy but for other magic types……well, how should I put it. If you fire a flash at someone, there’s no other role for it aside from blinding their eyes.
Probably. Maybe the light can cause skin cancer. Some of the attacks can heat up skin.
I’m not sure how to describe how light interacts with itself. I don’t know if the gods of light magic designed it like this to keep from killing each other, but when two light spells interact then the stronger will absorb the weaker.
The rules are as convenient as the strong eating the weak. I like it.
“Well, that’s impressive. I thought that technique couldn’t be used by anyone under 50.”
The middle aged man said with a laugh.
“Looking at you for the first time, you clearly aren’t a simple person. You deserve to be admired by Yybril and why Gabriel choose to leave the church. You deserve to be admired.”
“Un, so are you. To attack someone you met for the first time with a sword of light. Before we talk about anything else, I think you understand that light swords carry a certain amount of heat and if it’s possible to irritate the skin then some nobles might accuse you of affecting their health.”
“An accusation. Usually nobody does that.”
He looked innocently.
“Besides, light swords aren’t used against most people.”
“It seems we are definitely extraordinary guests……All right, back on topic. Are you here to welcome us or expel us?”
“Un, we are still discussing this. But seeing that you have no fear of light swords and can so easily use light magic, I believe you are our guest for now.”
“That’s truly an honor.”
I can only smile bitterly. Sure enough, visiting the Church is like getting hanged. You can say that they greet others with their magic.
“I told you before, this kid is the real deal. I said as much when I saw him a few months ago.”
At that moment a guy stepped out from the group of Saints in the back. Yeah, I knew this person because I had seen him with Yybril before.

Yep, I couldn’t see all of his information before but now that I can it’s pretty good.
“It looks like you’ve become a lot stronger again, boy. How about it? The invitation to become a Saint is still open. Want to come?”
“Old White, you’re no longer a Bishop. Is it really ok for you to be hiring people like this?”
“There’s also some urgency. You’re someone with a lot of light magic. If you aren’t recruited then you’ll almost be on the level of becoming a wanted criminal.”
“……That’s true too. Well, it’s troublesome.”
My bad?
“Alright you two, I’m not here today to think about my employment. I came here to find Yybril. She hasn’t come to school for half a month, hasn’t she? I heard that she had gone to the Abyss before but I didn’t hear anything more except that she had come back. Do you know where she’s gone?”
“Weren’t you the reason she went to the Abyss?”
“Mmm……That’s right, but it’s not my fault I came back. When my friends went into the Abyss to pick me up, they had already let me go, so it wasn’t my fault that I was able to quickly return.
I wouldn’t say that we went through the Abyssal Demon War or we’d end up stored as long term lab specimens.
“Yes, we did hear reports similar to that from Yybril when she came back from the Abyss. When they went, they discovered that the war in the Abyss had ended and came back after sorting through a bit of the information. However, now Yybril has been sent to the Shrine of One-Thousand Cranes in the Eastern Continent to suppress a demonic force. It will be a few months before she comes back.”
“Ok……”
To think that there was a problem and that she didn’t call me. If we were to go it would definitely only take a day or two. It can’t be harder than the guy in the Abyss.
“Well, that will be a big problem. I wanted her help in getting her cousin to come out from in the Church.
“Well……cousin?”
Uncle George gave it some thought.
“You’re talking about Sally?
“Un. You know her?”
“Well, compared to Yybril, that little girl is incredible troublesome.”
George spoke with a bitter smile.
“Isn’t that right, Taylor?”
He was talking to the middle aged man that had spoken to me.
“Troublesome? I feel that is a bit imprecise.”
Taylor said with a forced smile.
“Shouldn’t it be terrifying?”
“Terrifying? Terrifying is a new word to me, what do you mean by that?”
“She……must stay in God’s light to survive. That’s why she’s been squatting in the Church, right?”
“So what was the point of her coming to school?”
“Un……based on the way she’s been thinking, it actually isn’t necessary.”
I’m confused. What the hell?
So, basically what is going on here?”
“That child……is incredibly pure. The light element in her body is five times that of a normal person. But there’s a problem. The magic that she uses can become related to the forces of evil.”
“Huh?”
“She can summon a particular race.”
“?????”
“Which one is that?”
“Fallen Angels.”
