Chapter 130: Echoes of an Ancient Power
Chapter 130: Echoes of an Ancient Power
The path twisted and stretched on, each step taking us deeper into the unknown. The crystal's presence still lingered in my mind—a faint whisper I couldn't shake, as though it had left a mark I couldn't see.
Kijin and Raijuu stayed close, their eyes sharp and alert. They were tense, more so than usual, as if sensing the same strangeness that I felt. This floor, this entire section of the dungeon… it wasn't like anything we'd encountered before.
"All right, everyone," I murmured, glancing at the chat feed on my device. "We're going even deeper. Whatever's down here… it's watching us."
The chat was alive with excitement and nervous energy.
: Dude, this is insane! I feel like I'm watching a horror movie.
: Keep going, Tsukasa! We're right here with you!
: Forbidden Floors have my heart racing. This isn't like any other stream.
Ahead of us, the passage opened into another chamber, its ceiling arching so high that I couldn't see where it ended. Pale, bluish light flickered from clusters of crystals embedded in the walls, casting ghostly shadows that danced across the floor. In the center of the room stood a stone structure—something like an altar, covered in markings similar to those on the crystal we'd seen earlier.
I approached cautiously, keeping the camera trained on the altar for the viewers to see. As we got closer, I noticed faint symbols etched into the stone, lines that glowed with a soft, pulsing light.
"Look at this, chat," I whispered, zooming in on the markings. "These symbols… they're the same as the ones on that crystal."
: Those symbols are seriously ancient. This is next-level dungeon lore.
: Tsukasa, can you feel any energy coming from it? Like with the crystal?
: This place looks like it's been abandoned for centuries… What was it used for?
I reached out, hovering my hand above the markings, feeling a faint hum beneath my palm. There was energy here, similar to the crystal but… different, like it was part of something larger, something vast and ancient.
Suddenly, a cold gust of air swept through the chamber, and the pulsing light from the symbols flickered, dimming before returning stronger than before. A whisper, soft and chilling, drifted through my mind, barely more than a breath.
"Who… dares…"
I froze, glancing around, but there was no one else in the room—just me, Kijin, and Raijuu. The chat erupted in reaction.
: Did you guys hear that? It sounded like someone's voice…
: I'm getting chills. What's going on, Tsukasa?
: This is like a ghost story come to life. Be careful!
I took a deep breath, keeping my voice steady. "Yeah, I heard it too, chat. But there's no one here. Whatever it is… it's connected to this altar."
Kijin and Raijuu were on high alert, their bodies tense as they scanned the room. Raijuu let out a low growl, his gaze fixed on something just beyond the altar, his fur crackling with sparks.
"Stay close," I murmured to them, moving forward. "Let's see what's hidden here."
As I approached the altar, a faint glow appeared in the air above it—a shifting, amorphous light that twisted and morphed, as though trying to take shape but unable to settle. My heart raced, and I could sense my Shikigami's tension mounting.
"What is that?" I muttered, focusing the camera on the glow. The chat was going wild with guesses and theories.
: It's like… a spirit or an energy projection. Maybe a guardian?
: That's no ordinary dungeon phenomenon. It looks like something is trapped there.
: Whatever it is, it doesn't look friendly.
The glow pulsed, growing stronger, and for a moment, I thought I could make out a face—a vague, shadowy form that flickered in and out of sight. The whisper returned, louder this time, like an echo reverberating through the air.
"You… do not belong here…"
A chill ran down my spine, and I stepped back instinctively, feeling the weight of those words settle over me. Whoever or whatever was speaking… it wasn't just a part of the dungeon. It felt ancient, powerful, and very much aware of our presence.
"Kijin, Raijuu," I whispered, keeping my voice steady. "Stay alert."
But before I could take another step, the light above the altar flared, and the ground beneath us began to tremble. Cracks spidered across the floor, radiating out from the altar, as the entire chamber seemed to shift and warp, as though responding to some unseen force.
The chat was in a frenzy, messages flying across the screen.
: Tsukasa, get out of there! This is way too dangerous!
: I think the dungeon's reacting to you. Whatever you did, it's making something mad!
: Forbidden Floors don't mess around. This is some serious stuff.
The ground shook violently, and I struggled to keep my balance. Kijin and Raijuu braced themselves, their eyes fixed on the altar as a low, rumbling growl echoed through the chamber. And then, from the cracks in the floor, dark tendrils of shadow began to emerge, twisting and writhing like living things, coiling around the altar and stretching toward us.
I took a step back, trying to assess the situation, but the tendrils were moving too fast, spreading across the floor like a web. I felt a cold, unyielding pressure pressing down on me, and I realized with a jolt that the altar wasn't just an object—it was a seal, holding something back.
"All right, chat," I muttered, my voice tense. "Looks like we're not alone down here."
The tendrils surged forward, and Kijin leapt into action, his form blending with the shadows as he darted around the room, slashing at the dark tendrils with swift, precise strikes. Raijuu followed, unleashing bursts of lightning that crackled through the air, illuminating the chamber with each strike.
The chat was exploding with reactions, a mixture of excitement and fear.
: Kijin and Raijuu are amazing! They're fighting shadows like pros.
: Is it just me, or does it look like the shadows are regenerating?
: This is bad. It's like the altar is summoning these things to defend itself.
Despite Kijin and Raijuu's attacks, the tendrils continued to advance, coiling and twisting, each one regenerating almost as soon as it was struck down. I clenched my fists, my mind racing. This wasn't going to be a straightforward fight—whatever was controlling these shadows was using the altar as a source of power.
"Kijin, Raijuu—fall back!" I called out, gesturing for them to regroup. They returned to my side, both of them breathing heavily, their eyes fixed on the altar as the tendrils continued to spread.
"Chat," I said, my voice steady despite the tension. "I think we're dealing with some kind of… dungeon entity. Something that's been sealed down here for a long time."
: Is this some kind of boss fight? Like, a guardian or a spirit?
: It's gotta be protecting something important. What else could be worth locking up this deep?
: Be careful, Tsukasa! This is way above anything you've faced before.
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the moment pressing down on me. This wasn't just another dungeon. Whatever lay here… it was beyond anything I'd encountered before.
"Let's try this again," I murmured, feeling the familiar surge of energy as I connected with Kijin and Raijuu, channeling our combined strength. "This time, we're going to end it."
Kijin moved forward, his form blending with the shadows, his strikes swift and precise as he aimed for the tendrils' roots. Raijuu circled around, unleashing lightning bolts in rapid succession, each one aimed at the altar itself.
The shadows writhed and twisted, but this time, our combined power was enough to push them back, forcing the tendrils to retreat. The glow above the altar flickered, growing weaker with each strike.
The chat was going wild, cheering us on.
: YES! They're finally breaking through!
: Kijin and Raijuu are unstoppable! Show that altar who's boss!
: Keep going! Whatever's behind that seal, it's weakening!
With one final surge of energy, Raijuu launched a powerful burst of lightning directly at the center of the altar. The stone cracked, splintering beneath the force of the attack, and the shadows recoiled, dissolving into wisps of mist that faded into the air.
I lowered my weapon, feeling the tension lift as the altar's light faded, leaving the chamber in silence. The ground stopped shaking, and the oppressive energy that had filled the room began to dissipate.
"Looks like… we did it," I murmured, glancing at Kijin and Raijuu. They nodded, both of them visibly exhausted but victorious.
The chat erupted in celebration.
: THAT WAS INSANE! Best stream ever, Tsukasa!
: Forbidden Floors are no joke, but you handled it like a pro.
: I can't believe we just witnessed that live. You're a legend, Tsukasa!
But as I turned to leave, I felt a faint pulse from the altar—a final, lingering whisper that sent a chill down my spine.
"This is only the beginning…"
I stopped, my heart pounding as the words echoed in my mind. Whatever we had faced here, whatever power had been sealed in this place… it wasn't over.
"Looks like we're not done yet, chat," I said, managing a shaky smile. "Stick around. Things are just getting started."
With Kijin and Raijuu by my side, I turned toward the next passage, ready to face whatever else lay hidden in the depths of the Forbidden Floors.
