Chapter 48 Flames
Chapter 48 Flames
?
Ethan asked, "You said that it's as important as the soul but also that it's just a projection. I don't understand this. I mean even if there is no heart lake, things won't change much."
Remora replied. "It's an intuition. I can comprehend the illusion world... I mean heart lake thanks to this intuition. And whenever I connect to someone's heart lake, I have the same feeling as when I come in contact with a soul."
Ethan tilted his head, "How does a soul look... ugh I mean feel?"
"I have seen souls. Two of them. They... they were my late parents' souls."
Her most painful memories surfaced in her mind, making her lips tremble. She missed her parents a lot but that memory where she lost them was something she had been trying to forget for a long time. And she thought she was successful but what Ethan did made her think about it again.
All Remora could remember was the unbearable heat and the bright, relentless flames that consumed everything in sight. It was a nightmare that she couldn't escape from. And then, something heavy fell on her face, scorching her skin and robbing her of her sight. It was agony, but the pain was nothing compared to the terror of being trapped in a burning inferno.
Her parents were there, desperately trying to rescue her from the fiery hell that was destroying their home. They did everything they could, but it was too late. The rescuers arrived too late, and only she survived. The loss of her parents was a wound that would never heal.
She spent days in the hospital, lying in bed, unable to move, unable to speak. She was just a broken, traumatized teenager, consumed by fear and darkness. She couldn't face the world, couldn't bear the thought of a future without her parents. She wished she could turn back time, go back to when her parents were still alive, and tell them how much she loved them.
But then, in the midst of her despair, something miraculous happened. In the darkness, she saw a faint light, a glimmer of hope. It was as if her parents were reaching out to her from beyond the grave, telling her that she wasn't alone. That they were still with her, watching over her, guiding her.
For the first time since the fire, she felt a sense of peace. She reached out, trying to touch the light, and saw her parents' souls. They were transparent, but their love and warmth were more real than anything she had ever known. They told her that she was strong, that they were proud of her, and that they would always be with her.
Even though her parents were gone, their love remained. And with their guidance, she found the strength to face the future, to overcome her fear and find hope in the darkness.
At that time, Remora wept uncontrollably, her sobs echoing throughout the room and beyond. Her pain was so intense that anyone who heard her cries could feel her heartache. It was in that moment that she realized she possessed a unique gift—the ability to see a special type of energy.
It was the energy of the soul, but it was more than that. She could see people's emotions, their innermost feelings.
Her intuition was so acute that she could easily understand their state of mind, even if they didn't express it verbally. She felt connected to the people around her in a way that she had never experienced before.
In the beginning, it was a difficult journey for her. But she held onto her parents' words and they became a source of strength for her. Slowly but surely, the world around her began to change.
It was no longer a dark and bleak place, but a vibrant and colorful one. She discovered that even inanimate objects had their own unique energy and colors, albeit dull and faint.
This newfound awareness fascinated her to no end, and she delved deeper into this mystical world. It was a world that was full of wonder and amazement, and it gave her something to look forward to besides her long-held dream that she may never achieve.
Despite the odds, she refused to give up on her dream and worked tirelessly towards it. And finally, after years of hard work and dedication, she achieved her goal. She became a police officer, a special officer in the mystic control division.
As Remora felt Ethan's palm wiping away her tears, she heard him whisper softly, "I am sorry," with genuine remorse in his voice. She sniffled and let out a smile, this time it wasn't forced.
She realized how silly she had been earlier, thinking that she didn't deserve to be in the department. Yes, she had her own struggles, but she was determined to overcome them and give it her best.
She turned to look at the person beside her. He was a complex mix of colors, some of which she had never seen before. She knew that getting on his bad side would only bring more trouble and pain to her life.
But if she could somehow get on his good side, she might have a chance to explore and discover new things, adding even more colors to her world.
"Alright, don't act like this. The bad boy personality suits you more," she said, trying to lighten the mood.
Ethan just grinned
"Alright then. We will enter your heart lake. Actually it will be my first time taking another person together so let me prepare. It's better that you meet your girlfriend first."
"Not gonna tell how you will do it?" Ethan raised his eyebrows.
Remora shook her head and said, "Don't you know it's unethical to ask about details of powers?"
Ethan sighed experately. "Talking about being unethical now? After doing all that?" Seeing her pursed lips, Ethan nodded. "Then let's make a deal. I'll also tell you about one of my powers."
Remora actually considered it and said, "I'll choose what you will tell."
Seeing Ethan readily agree, Remora felt suspicious. Then she understood what he was doing. Remora muttered. "Carrot and stick method, huh?"
Ethan shrugged. Remora said, "You will tell me about your long range ability and then I'll try my best to explain mine. It will be a bit incomprehensible so don't blame me afterwards."
Ethan purposefully acted thinking about it and said, "Deal!"
He proceeded truthly tell about his only long range ability, soul link but made it sound like he had more. Remora sighed. "So I lost huh. Anyways now let me tell you about my power—Aura Insight."
They were close and whispering that the driver couldn't help but sneak glances at them. He observed the handsome Ethan and murmured under his breath, "fucking pretty boy."
Next she told him everything she could. In the end, Ethan didn't understand the crux, which meant that he would be able to replicate similar and make a new ability using the p symbol.
And then they finally reached the park. Ethan suddenly felt a sense of hesitation. How should he face her?
Remora thanked the driver and told him to go. He took a deep glance at fidgety Ethan, thought, 'psycho fucker.' and drove away.
Remora held his hand and started pulling him to the park, saying, "Why are you hesitating now?"
Ethan said, "Wh-what if I harm her too?"
Remora looked back at him and gave a laugh, "Speaking of that, you still have to pay me back for that punch. We'll talk about this later."
After a brief hesitation, Ethan entered the park and spotted Sasha sitting with her friend. Despite the presence of buildings and other surroundings, his eyes were fixed solely on her. She appeared stunning, causing his heart to race as he couldn't resist calling out, "Sasha!"
Upon hearing his voice, Sasha quickly got up and ran towards him, looking slightly awkward but not caring as she threw herself at him. "Idiot," she said, "I love you," before kissing him.
Her taste, soft body, and smell all seemed to hypnotize him, and although he had experienced a similar feeling before, he still felt hesitant due to a lingering doubt in his mind. He wondered if what he was feeling was only due to the thing that had infected him.
However, he eventually pushed those doubts aside, held Sasha's head, and kissed her with passion. With their bodies intertwined, they seemed to forget about the world around them.
