Chapter 141: It's…nothing

[Arata's POV:]

Sometimes I really hate this addition in my body which was supposed to provide an endless source of energy and help me get past any obstacle, yet what I have gained from this old hag residing inside of me is nothing but unending yapping.

[Now you understand, you ignorant brat, why did Seth always crush you way back in your past life and here as well? It's because you are nothing but a pile of adrenaline without any strength to back your actions.]

"Shut up, alright. Just shut the hell up! I have been hearing it from you for ages, how useless I am. If you don't have anything useful to say so just put a plugin in your hole and stop shouting already!"

I was tired of hearing the same things time after time. The Thunder Emperor of Legends or not, this old man is seriously a bother to have. I just wished to have a useful system that would have helped me unleash some powerful skills, not this ranting oldie.

I have been in my subconscious state for the past four hours, and one could never understand how insufferable an experience this was.

First I lost because of hasting things and got myself knocked out just in the beginning phase of the match. I bet that Seth would have been taking all the credit and bragging about how perfect his plans were if not someone like me would have butchered it.

Not to talk about my impression on Miyuki which by now, surely would have ruined.

The purpose of my life, the reason I jumped from that cliff and entered this cycle of reincarnation, was only for her.

I have seen Miyuki's obsession toward that bastard from very close so I know that attempting regular methods to gain her affection would not be enough.

In our last life, she got interested in Ryuuta because he saved her more than once. His strength and the way he tended to be protective around people is what made Miyuki look at him in the way she looks at no one.

I have to do something similar...no, I have to do more. I need to take slow yet strong steps to gain her attention and finally, there would come a day when I would get to hold the girl of my dreams.

[Dream on.]

This fucker!

"Look I-"

[No, you listen to me, kid. If you want to really surpass that rival of yours and win that girl's heart, then listen to my words and begin preparation for the round third.]

The overwhelming presence in my mind space made me halt my words as I heard the words directed by the Thunder Emperor regarding something useful for the first time...

----------

[Seth's POV:]

There were three days remaining for round two to draw its conclusion. After that, we would be given a three-day break before the final round begins.

The one-to-one showdown between participants would be lined up according to their scores. Currently, Ranghaur and Elitwiq were ruling the scoreboard, and from what I have evaluated from the reports, the leaderboard would remain the same, most likely.

Majorly every emperor and prominent noble would be arriving at the venue to watch the young talents and scout them accordingly. Naturally, the security would be upped by several levels since soon this place would become the most authority-condensed center.

Mother would be arriving on the match day as well from what I know. Lara has been sending me letters practically daily through her familiar which reaches the receiver in hours. She was so anxious and concerned for my well-being that it took me a stern scolding to let her know that we all have to oblige with the rules.

Ciel and Kevin met me during dinner along with some other classmates but since I don't get along with anyone much when it's not for work, I left their circle and walked out of the main building to have a walk in the fresh air.

Anabelle was pestering me to let her follow me but Ciel wanted her to stay, so I just gave her a carrot to spend a whole day with her. The girl readily took the bait and waved me goodbye with a happy smile.

Arata was still in the infirmary, or so what I heard from the Professor since he was recovering from the 'mental trauma'. Seriously, the guy who killed himself just to pursue his crush...some broken bones can really give him trauma? Hilarious.

'Hmm...? ' Walking around the backside of the humongous main building, I sensed a familiar presence before I approached her silently.

"You know-"

"Ah!" Serena yelped hearing my voice, nevertheless, I continued, "It's not safe to be here at this hour?"

"President? You startled me." She placed her hand over her chest which was heaving notably, with something massive going up and down.

Well, I have enough self-control to restrain my gaze from falling somewhere indecent as I waited for an answer.

"Really President, this is not an era where women can get molested just because they are roaming around at night." Serena huffed as she crossed her arms in the complaint.

"I was talking about the number of security units being installed around the premise that can easily detect you as a robber or something. I never said anything about being molested, Serena."

"..."

Hearing my words, her eyes slightly widened before a deep shade of crimson boiled up from her neck and dyed her whole face.

She's kind of an idiot at times.

"I-I-I know t-that m-much... I was just..."

Her voice dimmed to the point where I no longer was able to comprehend her words.

I felt my teasing instincts rising but I held it back since this girl might collapse if I go overboard.

"Did you eat something for dinner?"

"Hmm." Serena nodded, evidently thankful that I moved on from the topic.

"Is your room comfortable or should I talk to management?".

"No, it's quite fine. What about President? Are you alright after so much moving around?"

"Yes, mostly. I would just take some potions before sleep."

"You should rely less on those potions, President, rather I would ask you to rest more often."

I raised my brows before answering in slight bafflement, "...I will keep it in mind."

A brief serene silence befell between us before I decided to leave, "Then, rest early Serena. I will see you tomorrow."

I nodded and began walking away when suddenly Serena called out for me in a tone of emergency.

"Seth." It was rather surprising for her to say my name but I didn't get offended by that and turned to look at her.

There was a strange gleam in her golden eyes which made me dazed for a second, but I somehow collected myself and waited patiently for what she had to say.

Serena remained silent for a bit, before with a smile she shook her head and bid her farewell, "...it's nothing. Goodnight."
