Chapter 22: Learning a new spell to heal
A few minutes of awkward silence passed.
The two curious girls stared at Vincent while he had a puzzled frown.
Whatever he tried to do, it didn’t work. As a result, he felt embarrassed by how much he hyped for this plan to work.
“Did it work?” Lupa tilted her head to the side while her ears twitched with curiosity.
“I don’t think so. ” Ester replied. Then she remembered their first meeting and continued, “You could try to repeat how you learned your inspection ability.”
Vincent felt a bit dumb.
He started getting used to saying the commands for his retainer bond ability that how he learned the first ability escaped his mind.
.....
Vincent, “Thanks.”
His gaze focused, and his thoughts aligned. The wish to learn finally worked, and a display appeared.

.
Vincent, “I agree.”
As his words accepted the system message, his body suffered from intense pain.
His eyes and mark in his abdomen intensely glowed. It seemed that whenever he used soul power, his mark would shine.
The learning of new things probably needed to pay with pain every time. That, or he needed more soul power.
But for now. No pain, no gain.
Vincent grunted while contorting his face in pain.
Ester and Lupa became worried at his facial expression and actions. He was sweating bullets while he displayed this sudden pained commotion.
It wasn’t an act for sure.
Ester flustered in shock and panicked.
Lupa, on the other hand, licked his face as that was the only worrying wolf action she knew to do.
Vincent remembered how he had a free heal before he fainted from the pain. He decided to utter the command as fast as he could, “Soul Power Minor Heal.”
A burst of green light erupted from his body as it encased him.
Soon a glowing green layer surrounded his body. Some parts glowed brighter than the others.
As if the brighter these areas were, the more healing they required.
It felt warm and relaxing. The injury was slowly relieving itself, the more his body shone.
Vincent felt weaker by the second.
The minor heal was sapping his strength at a fast pace. At least his injury was also fading away at the same speed.
A sudden tingling sensation shot from his feet. Vincent wanted to stand up, and his body obeyed.
He stood up while his body shined like a green star in the night.
Both Ester and Lupa became surprised beyond words as they gave a priceless stare. Their mouth was open, and eyes were squinting as they gazed at the glowing man.
However, this only lasted for a few seconds.
The light faded, and Vincent fell on the floor. The spell sapped all his strength, leaving him nothing to spare.
Minor Heal was over. But if fully healed or not, only the deep sleeping Vincent could know.
Lupa gave him a few slaps to wake him up, but he remained asleep. Vincent was too exhausted to wake up.
Lupa was curious if Vincent healed. If so, then they could mate. This is what passed through her dirty wolf mind as she tried to wake him up.
“Stop slapping him. He is exhausted from the spell since strangely it worked. Minor heal exhausts the body, the more it heals.” Ester said in surprised by Lupa’s caveman wake up slapping.
At the same time, Ester was surprised by how the spell could work. She had once seen a mage use a spell, and their chant was long.
The chant of a spell was to command, praise, or instruct the mana in the world to collect and produce the desired effect.
However, Vincent just said the spell name, and it magically worked. Not only that, but it was a spell at full mastery might.
Ester had seen the villager get healed from her father’s minor healing scroll.
It was of medium quality, and the light wasn’t as bright. Also, only certain injured parts became encased in light.
“Let’s sleep. Vincent won’t wake up until tomorrow. Here, help me carry him on the mattress.” Ester asked for some assistance. She was tired, and her body still ached in pain.
Lupa nodded and helped. Afterward, she said, “Leave the guarding to me. I am an expert at resting while paying attention to my surroundings.”
Ester accepted her proposition. The three lay on the mattress and slept until morning.
*** 3rd Day
The third day started with two opposing sounds.
The cheerful chirping of the birds, and the growling stomachs of the three.
Ester woke up to a sound she wasn’t used to hear. She pulled herself up and stared for a while at the two. They were sleeping while their stomachs growled for food.
Ester went to scour for food; she felt hungry herself. Unfortunately, she only found a few vegetables left.
*Yawn
Vincent woke up after a good sleep. He yawned as he pulled himself up.
It took a few seconds for him to realize, he could move again.
.
[Name] Vincent Agius
[Condition] Healthy, Tired
[Soul Power] 0sp
.
The first thing he did was to inspect his body. His lips curved a delighted smile as he stared at the display only he could see.
“Y-you really healed! It’s a miracle to learn such an advanced spell and use it at full mastery.” Ester couldn’t believe her eyes.
She thought he might need to use the spell a lot of times, but the reality she knew could change when Vincent is around.
“Maybe now is my time to shine? ” Vincent said with a chuckle. In his heart, he hoped to be the case.
.....
“People of the Healer class have a tough time learning the spell Minor Heal. They learn and sometimes stay with the spell Minor Regen all their life. That’s why healing scrolls cost a lot.” Ester explained. Then she turned her gaze outside.
“I’ll go fishing; we need food for breakfast. ” Ester wanted some time alone.
Maybe then could she digest all this. However, she didn’t dislike being in his company.
Ester slowly believed that the legends of otherwordly individuals being evil were false. If not, then how could the person in front of her be this friendly.
Her parents taught her that it’s better to understand than to believe what others say.
An ideology she realized was correct when people feared her flexible body.
As such, she gave Vincent a chance of doubt. To prove himself and see if he was the vile being as the legends said.
However, this was a blessing in disguise since she accepted him and didn’t kill or report him, which in turn, he saved her life.
“Don’t we have meat here?” Vincent approached the corpses of the wolves. He removed the sheet and continued, “We can’t show that we killed a great gray wolf. How could a white wolf, and two unclassed humans beat it? So how about we hide the evidence in our belly?”
Vincent couldn’t do actions to attract attention, or it would be the death of him.
Ester stopped for a while to think with a frown on her face. She understood not to sell the great gray wolf, but to eat it...
She didn’t appear to like the idea.
Her hand raised and pointed at Vincent and said, “I don’t want to see blood for now, so... You can butcher while I prepare to cook outside.”
“Also, help me bring the cauldron outside. It’s heavy for me alone.” Ester patted her back while going to the destroyed kitchen.
Vincent thought she would butcher the great gray wolf. How would an otaku that never harmed an animal on earth do this?
“Fine...” Vincent grunted. He helped to move the cauldron outside.
Afterward, a fantastic idea sparkled in his mind. To have Lupa do the butcher job as she lived in the wild her entire life.
However, it was easier said than done.
Vincent felt threatened by her cute and innocent sleeping pose. When she wakes up, the predator will return.
He approached her side. Mustering his courage for his plan to succeed, his hand nudged her shoulder.
Soon, a pair of golden eyes found its prey in her sights.
Two arms wrapped around his neck. With a forceful pull, he fell on top of Lupa as she cushioned his fall.
“Morning my mate, hehe.” Lupa curved a happy, delightful smile making Vincent more embarrassed by her every move.
“Please stop teasing. Now is not the time.” Vincent did his best to resist her hold. But she kept her hands locked with no room to escape.
“No. I don’t wanna. You are healed, so lets mate. I waited for so long to find the best partner possible. Now you won’t leave my sight.” Lupa had a resolve of an alpha wolf. Like a leader, she didn’t want to back down.
“I promise to mate when we are in a good and clam situation, ok?” Vincent decided to leave this problem to the future Vincent as he felt jealous of what would happen with this beauty.
His current goal was to survive instead of getting laid.
“Then give me a reward and promise to keep your word.” Lupa decided to hold the event for later. This embrace made her feel happy for now.
“You are a good girl.” Vincent gave her a quick peck on her cheek.
With a cheerful smile, Lupa released her hold. Her cheeks had a hint of red as this caught her by surprise.
Vincent quickly pulled himself up, sighed in relief, and turned his head around.
Behind him was Ester staring at them with a frown.
Ester saw the whole thing. She even feared the two were about to make out in the open as Lupa didn’t seem to mind.
Ester felt this scene was familiar, like a deja vu. Suddenly, she recalled falling on Vincent and kissing him. Her cheeks lightly blushed by this memory.
In her hand was a knife intended for Vincent to cut the great gray wolf. But now it was being held with no intention to let go.
It seemed knives and Ester didn’t match.
‘Is he a womanizer? He already stole my lips, but now he is going for a wolf’s lips instead.’ She thought with a hint of anger and jealousy.
