242 Rushing to arrive sooner

Lupa didn’t listen to his words, though. After living with the thought of death every day until meeting Vincent, unless it’s someone important to her, Lupa doesn’t seem to mind as much as others.

Lupa went beside Ester, who was helping Iris get down. “Sisters, do you know when we can continue? I had a lot of fun, hehe.” She grinned enthusiastically.

“Stop being insensitive, Lupa. We are going to see if Iris’s father has left the cave or not. This isn’t a joyride.” Ester scolded Lupa.

Lupa lowered her ears and slowly nodded with a sad face. Then she looked at Iris and apologized, “I didn’t mean to say that.”

As they rested for one hour, Lupa offered some of her food to Iris as an apology. In that time, the horses were fed.

The information of the horses potentially getting addicted scared Vincent because the results were unknown, so he asked Iris to split whatever she extracted into four portions.

The horses felt better and energized after eating and drinking with half of a Tell Flower Root added. It allows them to traverse more distance before they become winded and have to repeat the resting process again.

.....

Later, the group continued heading toward their destination while repeating the one hour break a few times.

Time passed, and night arrived. Ester and Lupa set a campfire. Iris extracted the nutritious water from the Tell Flower Root while Vincent and Kazumi attentively looked at the map.

[Incredible! We traveled more than one and a half days at this extremely rushed pace. We can arrive tomorrow if the horses don’t get exhausted too much.]

Vincent looked at the horses and used Inspection them. “Hmm, they are winded and have minor addiction with a couple of hours left to disappear, but their condition is healthy at least. Another day moving at this pace should be possible.” He said.

“Let’s eat something, take care of the horses, and sleep. We can arrive tomorrow if we keep moving at this pace. We might arrive earlier than expected to be honest. ” Vincent announced.

Vincent then looked at Iris and praised, “The Tell Flower Root worked better than I expected under the hands of our herbalist Iris. It’s great to have a doctor in our ranks.”

“I-I didn’t do that much. Please don’t e-exaggerate.” Iris blushed. Her red cheek color blended well with the illumination of the crackling campfire’s flame.

“One might never know of their importance nor of their true value, but those around them are the ones who can decide after witnessing the actions of these great people. ” Vincent spoke profoundly.

Vincent noticed Ester had a look of surprise, Lupa a look of expectancy, and Iris a look of embarrassment and nervousness.

“My favorite hero in a story I read many times said these words, hehe. It means never to devalue yourself. We are the ones who value you. Thus, we decide how great you are, and if not, we can help and guide you to the path you want to take. Life is all about moving forward... but I learned the hard way that it’s to move forward with others beside you instead of doing everything alone.” Vincent explained a subject he had pondered for quite a while in the last few weeks.

[Ho~ho, master Vincent has spoken. Remarkable words were spoken by the great otaku master brimming with unbound wisdom in the arts of...]

-Please take the night shift as usual.-

[Huh? But what about my great profound verse you interrupted? ]

“Ahem, sorry for surprising you with all these words.” Vincent cleared his throat and winked at Iris. “Well, let’s eat.” He added.

“Let’s eat.” Ester gently rubbed Iris’s back and continued, “Sister, I value your remedies highly. You are a valuable sister.”

Lupa didn’t like to be left out. “Even stinky grass becomes good in your hands. But, let’s eat!” She said before going beside Vincent and her lips dripping with saliva. Hearing so many words made her hungry.

Iris felt happy after hearing such reassuring and caring words. She started to feel at home with the kind Ester, the energetic Lupa, and the loving Vincent.

Iris nodded and decided to give her best. Later as she lay on the ground, she looked at the tree above her, gently swaying along with the breeze.

‘Is this why a tree has many branches and many roots? One thing is never enough...’ She pondered herself to sleep.

*Day 65 – Early morning*

Vincent opened his eyes and saw it was still dark. He woke up after hearing Ester talk to Iris about something.

Vincent heard Ester say, “I know you barely slept after you tossed and turned many times. I know we need to hurry, but we can’t hurry more than we are doing right now.”

[Ester is right. I don’t think Iris slept for more than half an hour. She is restless, but we can understand what chaotic thoughts she has right now.]

-I know that feeling too...-

Vincent decided to do something. He inspected the condition of the horses and discovered they were ready to run. “Iris, prepare the food for the horses. We will leave a few minutes after the horses eat.” Vincent gave Iris something to do and hoped it could help distract her unsettled thoughts.

Later, everyone had something to eat and prepare. After waiting a few minutes for the horses to digest their food and for the boost to kick in, they left in a hurry.

The sun slowly raised, and their visibility became clear. GPS Kazumi led Vincent without the need to stop and look at the map. Kazumi could direct Vincent better now that he got the hang of riding a horse.

[Vincent... you know Ben was right about the possibility of killing someone if you lose control of your emotions. Are you mentally prepared to end a living being’s life?]

Vincent understood Kazumi’s concern. Punching someone is far different than killing someone. However, Vincent learned in the two months living in this world how much not acting can be dangerous.

Killing someone or losing someone are two bads that can never change into something good no matter how the words change someone’s perspective of the situation.

-I... yes. I have decided to go with the flow of the situation that presents itself. However, would you mind stopping me if I am going to hurt an innocent or if I lose control of my reasoning?-

-As for your question, no, I am not mentally prepared, but I know that I have to act no matter how I feel.-

[It is understandable. How about I mention a few situations while we reach our destination.]

-That would be great.-

Kazumi soon started to prepare Vincent telepathically. She tried her best to help Vincent choose what action to take without regretting what his choice was.

However, something stirred inside Vincent as he imagined multiple scenarios. His eyes showed a mysterious gleam, and his brows gradually lowered into an angered frown. Whatever Kazumi was making Vincent imagine, it wasn’t pleasant.

*Rumput Forest – Goblin Tribe Cave – Late afternoon*

*Rustle, rustle* Eight men appeared from behind a tree. Their faces were bruised, they wore simple clothing, and they had no weapons. These eight men had a desperate expression on their faces.

The eight men saw the large crater. Most of them gulped and stopped for a minute or two in front of the edge. As they gazed down, they quickly understood that a terrifying battle had taken place here.

A group of goblins exited the cave. The goblins looked at the unarmed, injured humans and decided to lower their guard. The goblins decided to send one goblin to communicate.

*Splash, splash* Suddenly, out of nowhere, small vails hit all the goblins and the eight men with pinpoint accuracy.

The vails weren’t deadly nor harmful. A liquid substance smeared on the goblins, and men dripped like water. However, the liquid became thicker and stickier as time passed.

Struggling against the substance reduced the time it needed to mature. In less than a minute, everyone was stuck by this sticky substance to the ground.

A group of people soon approached, looking at the goblins with a discussing look. Ten men wearing clean, high-quality light metal armor appeared first. Behind them appeared two men pulling a couple of small ropes.

One man pulled three horses with bags of supply on them. The other man wearing less armor than all the others pulled three bound women.

One of the women wore a high-class maid outfit. She was none other than Lilith’s maid. The other two, who almost looked like twins, had strange expressions on their faces.

“Didn’t you say you will let us go? Why are you doing this to us!” One of the eight men rooted to the ground said before *Thud* he received a kick to the gut so powerful that the sticky substance uprooted a few bits of earth stuck onto it. The unfortunate man ended up falling into the deep crater with a loud thud.

“You murder! Do you think you can get away with this?” Another man shouted.

The man who kicked and killed a person laughed and announced, “You idiots think a hero will come and save you? Hahaha! We were ordered to do this by none other than Viscount Demel Blackheart himself.”

The seven incapacitated men stared in utter disbelief. If a noble of the rank Viscount made such an order, survival would become impossible while adding that they are too far from the city or any village.

“You bastards! Where is my lady!” The maid exclaimed before... *Slap*
