Chapter 643
Chapter 643
643 The important conclusion
Shortly, Vincent began answering dozens upon dozens of questions. The questions varied between how safe or dangerous Earth was, what kind of entertainment Earth had, what kind of king Vincent’s kingdom had, and so forth.
The more Vincent responded, the more Lucas, Anna, and Bilka learned how different Vincent’s world was from theirs.
The idea of no magic or energy force existing was mindboggling to them. The concept of electricity and the tiny devices available for every person astonished them even further.
Lucas mostly asked about Vincent’s world in general and the people living on Earth. He wanted to understand how people could live and work in a magicless world.
Lucas also sneaked a few questions about the beauty of the women on Earth. The answers left Anna blushing and Bilka frowning.
Anna mostly asked about to entertainment side. She appeared to be fascinated with every bit of information Vincent said.
Bilka bluntly asked about the dangers of Earth. She frowned deeply after hearing how many countries existed and how a small percentage of them still prepared for war, even if they were at the age of advancement and entertainment instead of the violence of war.
Bilka also didn’t want to believe Vincent’s truthful words that Earth is round. Not to mention how massive Earth’s land is compared to the world’s five continents.
Bilka noticed the soft layer of light around Vincent’s body flicker. As if Bilka had already seen this type of interrogation magic contract work before, Bilka knew the time was almost up.
.....
Before the magic contract’s effects expired, Bilka crossed her arms. She looked at Vincent with her usual frown.
“Are you sure you are not interested in making her highness, you woman?” Bilka asked out of the blue.
Anna blushed after this kind of subject was brought up while Lucas laughed at the blushing princess.
[Wow. I never expected this kind of question from Bilka, haha. Will you choose to slap your face or answer honestly? I am trying to figure out which is the best in this situation.]
-Honesty will be the best choice.-
[Good luck.]
“I mean no disrespect to her highness, but I see Anna like a little sister. Similar to how I see Tula as a little sister, even if she is an adult with the mind of a child. Both of you are like my little sisters.” Vincent casually responded without showing a hint of hesitation in his voice.
A second after Vincent’s last word came out, the layer of light flicked rapidly and faded in the blink of an eye. The fifteen minutes were up, and the last question was answered in the nick of time. The time to resist lying or suffer from a slap to the face by one’s hand was over.
Vincent responded with his honest opinion before the effect ended, yet Bilka was still unconvinced. Bilka clicked her tongue and warned, “I will keep my eyes on you even if you didn’t slap yourself by telling a lie. I still am uncertain how the minds of people like you work.”
While Bilka looked unsatisfied, Lucas and Anna appeared to be satisfied with the answers they received.
Most of the questions were about Earth instead of Vincent and his past.
After hearing how he felt guilty for requesting to visit a place where an absurd amount of people died, including his parents, they kept the questions to a minimum and only asked questions to learn about his personality and motivations.
The questions regarding Earth allowed Lucas, Anna, and Bilka to understand where Vincent came from and how the environment raised him. They could learn Vincent was more of a let sleeping dogs lie kind of guy.
The Vincent of Earth tried his best to keep his problems bottled inside of him, while the current Vincent does not. The difference was responsibility. Vincent had grown to become responsible, unlike his past self.
The fifteen minutes ended faster than Lucas, Anna, and Bilka expected. They were three interrogators, and five minutes each wasn’t enough.
Even though Bilka remained unfriendly towards Vincent, the answers were enough to let the three of them understand Earth wasn’t a place that creates villains like the Summoner Hero Dominic Smith as if it was nothing.
Anna took a silent deep breath and exhaled. “Vincent. What would you do if I agreed to keep the previous arrangements without changing anything?”
“Y-y-your highness!” Bilka exclaimed.
“I do not dislike the idea, your highness. However, I will need Vincent to sign a magic contract and accept to have two men I trust to be employed by the Lionheart family branch as gate guards.” Lucas said.
[They conversed instead of attacking us. Apart from Bilka, they did not show signs of hostility. Instead, they were curious to discover what makes you tick to give you a threat level.]
-Does it not mean my designated threat level is low?-
[Yes. But remember not to press your luck.]
-I have learned that quite well today after almost dying.-
[...] Kazumi didn’t want to mention how Vincent had actually died.
“If the requirements are not going to be impossible to follow, I will accept the be acknowledged by the Princess of Lusterfall, Anna Lusterfall, and by Royal Guard Duke Lucas Hawkins. ” Vincent said, accepting to sign a magic contract. But his face showed signs of uncertainty.
“What is with that expression? Are you already having second doubts?” Bluntly questioned Bilka.
“The pay... who will pay the new employees?” Vincent said in a low tone after feeling embarrassed to say these words to a Duke and a Princess.
“Hahaha!” Lucas laughed loudly. Out of all the things Vincent could complain about, Vincent complained about who would be paying for the two new gate guards.
Lucas wiped his laughter tears off. “That was an unexpected tension breaker. It feels like going back to the first time we met and talking about ordinary things.”
“Ahem. Can I ask why I have been accepted so easily?” Asked Vincent. The very curious Kazumi nodded in agreement.
“We have witnessed how strong you can grow in a short amount of time. We have also seen the kinds of people you attract and their power. Thus, you have the chance to become an ally instead of an enemy.” Said Lucas.
“Vincent. You acted humble and kind. You helped those who needed aid. The payment was to use some of their time to patrol the mansion the people you care about, live in.” Anna smiled warmly and continued, “The bond I witnessed today between you and your wives was touching. I want to become friends with women who are honest with their feelings now.”
“W-WHAT!” Bilka loudly exclaimed. “How can her highness become friends with women that love that vulgar man?”
“Hehehe.” Anna pleasantly giggled. “You know I dislike dishonest people. I also dislike greedy people as well. But I think it will be different when befriending women who only seek self-improvement and worry about others, like how they used their bodies to stop possessed Vincent from attacking us.”
“Her highness is right about that. I had my hands full, negating the malice and negative intents of the fight.” Lucas said while looking at Anna. He moved his head onto Vincent and continued with a frown. “Just to let you know, I might have taken her highness away for safety if your wives didn’t protect us for you.”
[Their conclusion about us is more straightforward yet reasonable than I thought.]
-Didn’t they believe I could’ve been Kevin’s retainer? That means they had adequately prepared to learn I was really a retainer.-
[It is understandable when you put it that way. They prepared to meet Kevin’s retainer but discovered the seventh person to be summoned to their world instead.]
“Thank you for giving a positive response after learning I come from the same world as the infamous Summoner Hero. ” Vincent said before lowering his gaze to his hand.
Vincent’s hand trembled before closing. After the hand opened, Vincent’s five fingers reminded him of his five wives. Ester, Lupa, Iris, Lilith, and Sakura would be elated to hear how Lucas and Anna were going to give Vincent a chance to prove he was not a monster.
“My deadly secret connects my wives and me. That means your responses make me happy to understand I will not be putting them in danger.”
Vincent said before his arm trembled. After a couple of shakes, the arm lifted shoulder high, and the open hand pointed toward Anna for a handshake.
“My family and I will remain your secret trusted ally. We will be your refuge when you need a break or are in need of help. Furthermore, our bond was formed verbally. I want to shake on it as well.”
Anna gently nodded once. She placed her hands on the wheels. The wheelchair moved forward and stopped beside Vincent.
Momentarily, Anna raised her hand and shook his.
“Seventh invader who is also kind and dependable, I, Princess Anna Lusterfall, will form a bond of trust with you. ” Anna said in a pleasant voice.
Bilka wanted to complain. She bit her lip to keep silent. On the other hand, Lucas clapped to congratulate the bond between the Princess of Lusterfall and the man who is said the be the curse upon the land, and his only purpose in life was to bring death and destruction.
‘Fight poison with poison, as they say. Vincent will become Princess Anna’s personal poison.’ Lucas thought while clapping and witnessing Anna gain a reliable weapon against the greedy nobles who want to force Anna into an arranged marriage for their benefit.
