Chapter 28: The Person Responsible For It All — Rennes!
Led by several experts, Roland was inspecting the semi-transparent shelter.
Outside the shelter, the cold wind chilled him to the bone.
But what was strange was that, although the temperature in the shelter was not as warm as summer, it was very stable.
It was like the autumn in the south.
Looking at the ice and snow that were slowly melting on the soft black soil under his feet and thinking of the food would be born from this soil in the near future, Roland’s face finally showed a pleasant smile.
He said to the experts, “I’ll have to trouble all of you in the coming days to help the potatoes grow as quickly as possible.
“After the “Introduction to Magic” has spread and we develop a mature technology, we’ll be able to carry out a large-scale promotional effort to encourage potato farming throughout the province, and gradually spread it to the entire north!”
“You’re too polite, Governor! It’s our honor to be able to become mage apprentices and cultivate the world’s first magic food.
“We can’t thank you and the Chief Consul enough.
“Please rest assured. Within a year, all the people in the north will have fresh potatoes to eat!”
A person holding a potato seedling in his hand said excitedly.
“Great! Let’s work together to make it happen! Whatever policies or help you need, just let the provincial governor’s office know.
“We’ll do our best to help you solve your problems. This is what the Chief Consul has tasked us to do,” Roland said.
He took one last look at the shelter that was as warm as spring and left with a smile.
For a time after that, magic potatoes became the hottest topic in the city.
The news was also spreading rapidly throughout the north. Many people now knew that a major experiment was being conducted in Iron Armor City.
If the experiment was successful, the problem of crop farming that had troubled the north for many years would be solved.
The person behind all this, Rennes, was currently enjoying a rare leisure moment.
Although winter in the north was cold, it felt like spring in the room with a burning fireplace.
Rennes was lazing around on the chair. He picked up the apple that Trish had peeled for him and took a bite. It was crunchy. His face revealed a satisfied expression.
Trish was standing beside Rennes. Her eyes seemed to flicker when she saw Rennes’ satisfied expression.
Rennes took his time eating the apple. When he was almost done, Trish suddenly asked him tentatively, “Lord Rennes, can you teach Trish magic?”
As a descendant of the white dragons, Trish had actually long awakened the magic inside her.
If she was a human mage, the current her would be at the level of a Grandmage.
Her magic power was slightly stronger than what a normal human possessed, but right now, Trish only knew some simple ice magic.
It could not be helped. Trish was not a pure-blooded white dragon, so she could not inherit magic spells directly through her memories.
She could only learn from the elders in her clan.
However, before she could officially start learning, the disaster struck.
Rennes only glanced at Trish lazily and asked, “Why do you suddenly want to learn magic?”
“Lord Rennes, you’ve taught everybody magic but me. I want to learn magic too!” Trish said unhappily with a pout.
“Okay, what kind of magic do you want to learn?” Rennes knew what Trish was thinking. He asked with a smile.
“Ice magic, of course!” Trish tilted her head. She was wondering why Rennes would ask such a strange question.
She was a single-element mage and had comprehended the power of the ice element. Naturally, she could only learn ice magic.
“To thank you for peeling an apple for me, let me teach you a magic extraction spell first!” Rennes could only smile helplessly at Trish’s ignorance.
A magic extraction spell.
As the name suggested, it was used to extract the wandering magic power in the surroundings to fill one’s body. Different levels of magic extraction spells would also have vastly different effects.
Trish herself had already mastered a magic extraction spell. In fact, her magic extraction spell was actually better than ordinary magic extraction spells.
However, she was a dragon, so that level of magic extraction was not enough.
That was why she was still at the level of a Grandmage at her age.
If she was a pure-blooded dragon, perhaps she would have obtained a magic extraction spell of a higher level.
“Then Trish will peel another apple for milord!” Trish nodded and smiled happily, her eyes like crescent moons. The little girl once again showed her quick wit.
“Learn this magic extraction spell first. As for ice magic, right now, you can only learn some very basic spells.
“After you break through and advance from a Grandmage, I’ll teach you some powerful ice magic!” Rennes promised.
“How powerful?”
“You can turn thousands of miles of land into ice. Powerful enough?”
“It’s powerful enough! It’s more than powerful enough. Lord Rennes, you’re the best!”
Muah!
What followed was a wonderful sensation on his cheek that was gone in a flash. Rennes subconsciously touched his face that was still a little warm.
What’s this?
A little handmaiden was actually hitting on her master?
Rennes thought helplessly. The room was filled with Trish’s laughter. She was using her laughter to hide the awkwardness.
Looking at the girl who was obviously getting a little too excited, Rennes suddenly coughed and said with a serious expression, “Listen carefully!”
Next, Rennes taught Trish a very complicated magic extraction spell.
One day later.
Trish was standing in the yard. She secretly used the spell Rennes had taught her to try to extract magic power from around her.
Trish soon found out that the extraction speed of this new method was hundreds of times faster than the old one she practiced.
Even the high-level extraction spell mastered by the elders of her clan was trash compared to the one Rennes taught her.
This discovery made the little girl’s eyes red.
She was a dragon refugee. She was fortunate enough to meet Lord Rennes who was willing to take in a foreign creature like her.
She should have been satisfied with just being able to survive and live so well.
But not only did Lord Rennes not mind her huge appetite, he even agreed to teach her magic.
Moreover, he even taught her such a precious magic extraction technique. Although she was young, she was not stupid.
She knew that if the existence of this magic extraction technique was made known to others, even an Archmage would frantically fight over it.
But Rennes simply taught her this method for nothing in return.
How could Trish not be moved by the grace and trust he showed to her.
The more she thought about it, the more touched she was. Tears finally burst out of her eyes and dripped down her face.
Trish wiped away the tears, and her gaze suddenly became firm. She secretly made a vow in her heart.
‘Lord Rennes, Trish will always be Sir Rennes’ little handmaiden. If Trish becomes an Archmage one day, Trish will always protect you.’
In the following days, Trish trained even harder.
Her magic realm had also risen from a Tier-4 Grandmage to a Tier-8 Grandmage. She was close to advancing from the Grandmage rank.
