Chapter 153

Victoria's smile vanished instantly as she lowered her head.

Seeing that, Bailey tapped the back of her hand lightly. “Come, now. Let's not talk about this anymore. Eat up.”

Yet, Victoria remained unmoving for a long while before finally responding, “You're right, Bay. He's already married and has his own family now. I shouldn't involve myself with him anymore. It was my family that drove him to the edge, and now that he's finally found happiness, I should be glad for him.”

While speaking, the woman sounded especially rigid, as though she were a robot incapable of emotions.

Bailey sighed and wrapped her arms around Victoria. “I'm relieved to know you think that way. The sooner you cut him off, the better. You and Lionel aren't meant to be, so it's best you move on—for both his and your sake.”

The latter took a deep breath. “Yeah, I know. You don't have to worry about me. It's been years, and my worst days are long over. There's nothing in this world that can bring me down now.”

With that, she picked up her cutlery and began digging in.

Bailey shook her head and smiled bitterly.

When it comes to love, only the person experiencing it understands it. I can't feel what she's going through, but I hope she'll forget about Lionel and find someone who truly belongs to her.

In the morning, Bailey received a call from Artemis informing her that she could now proceed with conducting the surgery. The latter had already convinced both the Chivers and Luther families to leave Glen's wellbeing in her hands.

After hanging up, the woman locked herself in the study and retrieved the surgical treatment plan she had made for the king of Eskaria three years ago.

Given how it had been so long since the king's craniotomy, she now felt the need to draft up a new plan.

She had to keep Glen alive no matter what.

Meanwhile, Rhonda was in the middle of a phone call inside the guest room of the Luther residence.

“Don't worry, Dr. White. I'll come up with a way to put Bailey behind bars. You'll definitely be the one operating on Old Mr. Chivers. Please give me a few days.”

A displeased-sounding Cadence replied over the phone, “What's up with the two families? Didn't they already sign the agreement to let me handle the surgery? How could they change their minds at the last minute like this and let some unknown woman take over? Am I that worthless in their eyes?”

“No, that's not it. Please don't be mad,” Rhonda quickly assured with a smile. “Edmund's been charmed by Bailey. That's why he made such a rash decision. But don't worry! Felicity's already found out that Bailey doesn't even have the most basic qualifications, so we can put Bailey in jail as long as she dares take up this case.”

“Fine. I'll give you two more days. I'll be going back to Radford if you don't give me what I want by then, and don't be surprised about what I'd do to you.”

The man hung up right after that.

A frosty look flashed in Rhonda's eyes as she heard the beeping sound of the phone, and she gripped her device tightly, seething.

Just you wait, Bailey. I'll send you straight to Cadence's bed soon enough, so you'll know what it's like to be a victim of his sick torture.

Suddenly, a knock came on the door, and the woman hastily replaced her scowl with a tender smile.

She walked over to open the door and saw a housemaid standing outside. “Hey, Lynn, what's up?”

“Mrs. Luther is downstairs waiting for you, Ms. Jefferson. She says she has something to discuss with you.”

“Okay. I'll be right down.”

Rhonda headed downstairs and saw Felicity seated on the couch, looking joyful.

She must've found out something about Bailey that would help us.

“What can I do for you, Mrs. Luther?”

The older woman beamed at her. “Thanks to you, I've managed to dig up something we can use

against Bailey yesterday. To think that b*tch doesn't have any doctors' qualifications! That alone could put her in jail for at least a few years!”

Rhonda smirked. “The heavens have given you this opportunity to save Granddad from another crisis, Mrs. Luther. Now, let's wait for Bailey to sign the legal form. Once she does, we'll call the police and have them arrest her at the Chivers residence.”

Felicity smacked her own thigh as her smile grew wider. “Let's do that! I'll let the police know beforehand and make use of some connections. I'm not going to let Bailey escape this time. Her existence is a bane to both the Luther and Jefferson households. I have to get rid of her.”

Rhonda nodded obediently. “It will be as you wish.”

Meanwhile, Glen lay in his bed at the Chivers residence and turned to Bailey, who was sitting next to him. “Bay, if you're not confident about the surgery, you don't have to do it. It's not up to you to repay a sixty-year-old debt.”

Bailey merely smiled.

She knew he was telling her this not because he doubted her medical abilities but rather because he didn't want her to regret her actions in case the surgery failed.

“Don't worry, Old Mr. Chivers. I know I can do it. You saved my granny and mother, so I'm not going to treat your life as a mere joke. As for your concern, you don't have to worry about that either. I won't let you die from the surgery.”

Glen heaved a sigh. “Very well. Since you insist on doing it, I won't stop you. Besides, it's nice that a

young lady like you is trying to show her gratitude, so I have no reason to turn you down.”

Bailey grinned. “That's true. You can't say no.”

The door to the room was pushed open at that moment. Then, Yoel, Edmund, and Artemis walked in.

Bailey took a couple of steps back and said to Yoel, “I've spoken to the patient, Mr. Chivers. If there are no other questions, let's discuss the surgery's time and date.”

“There's no need to rush,” Yoel replied while taking several documents out of a briefcase. “Let's go through all the necessary procedures beforehand. There are two documents here—a waiver of liability and a letter of authorization. Let me know if there's anything else that needs to be added. If there isn't, please sign the documents.”

Bailey took the papers. After glancing through them quickly, she penned her signature on both documents.

Yoel's frigid expression softened as he saw how decisive she was. “I leave my father in your hands.”

“Certainly.”

The surgery was set to be carried out in two days.

However, the police came looking for Bailey one day before.

“Ms. Jefferson, you're under arrest for unauthorized practice of medicine. Come with us.”
