Chapter 124

Chapter 124: Bad things happen at the same time (3)

“LINE UP!”

A knight in the front shouted to the soldiers as they lined up with their shields.

“Close the perimeter!”

“UGH! SO SMELLY!”

About six hundred soldiers were sandwiched next to each other in response to the knight’s shout. It was end of the fall, so the temperature was pretty low, but it made soldiers sweat because of the body heat.

“WAHH!”

A sound of a battle horn and soldiers shouting filled the plain.

“Galians are coming! Prepare for impact!”

“Archers! Ready!”

“Knights from the right!”

“Knights, go stop them!”

“UGH!”

“ARROWS! RAISE YOUR SHIELDS!”

It was chaotic. Soldiers who were running in front dropped as arrows pierced them. But it wasn’t enough to stop all eight hundred Galian soldiers. Both forces were now very close.

“PREPARE FOR IMPACT!”

“KILL THE TORIANS!”

“FOR REVENGE!”

The incoming army shouted angrily. The Torian army stood ready as they prepared for impact.

“LANCES!”

Long lances were held up against the incoming forces. The two forces collided. Some forced their way through the lances and some began forcing their way in between the shields.

“DIE!”

“UGH!”

“HELP!”

Cries and angry shouts rose from the battlefield. They mindlessly attacked each other, trying to kill each other before getting themselves killed. Some had their heads cut open with an axe and some their hearts penetrated with a spear. It was a bloodbath. Human parts were everywhere.

It was a battlefield of death and insanity. At that moment, twenty knights on Galims rode to the side.

Benton Frank, a knight who served Marquis Beneth, roared in valor as he watched the twenty oncoming knights. The ground rumbled and dust was kicked up into the air.

“FOCUS!”

They also began charging toward the oncoming knights. These knights on Galims were considered the strongest forces available in this world. It was said that the group of knights on Galims obliterated thousands of soldiers on foot.

“Death to the Torian Knights!”

“KILL THEM ALL!”

James, another one of Marquis Beneth’s knights, shouted as they lowered their lances against the enemy.

“For GALIA!”

“FOR HONOR!”

They clashed against each other and lances broke. Some were thrown off by the Galims and some fell as the Galims themselves were killed with broken necks.

“HEEYAH!”

‘SEVEN!’

James frowned. One clash and one-third of his knights were dead. Only fifteen were left alive. The enemies seemed to be about same.

‘Should I fall back?’

James hesitated, but he stood his ground.

‘We either win or lose.’

There was no going back. James turned his Galim and the surviving knights followed him.

“DEATH TO THE ENEMIES!”

They clashed again. It was now a close combat.

‘It’s either him or me!’

James sped his Galim up and raised his giant sword.

“I am James, knight of Marquis Beneth! Who are you!”

“I am Odnam Guran of Viscount Guran! Take my wrath!”

Both began slashing their swords at each other. As James chose one knight to fight, the others did the same. Various weapons were thrown upon each other, trying to kill their targets.

“FALL BACK!”

After a while, more Galian knights fell and they began to retreat. The Torians did not chase after them. There had no energy to do so.

“We’ve WON! They’re retreating!”

Soldiers began to shout in victory. But James did not seem relaxed.

‘It’s just the beginning. Who knows how many more battles we need to fight.’

The battle that was supposed to be a training ground for young nobles to experience and win medals were killed. The two countries blamed each other for the outcome and began rounding up armies for revenge. Both countries knew it had to be stopped, but there were so many noble families who had lost their sons. It was not easy to stop the war when it was meant to dismiss their rage.

People hoped the rage would disappear with time, but the war was becoming more fierce.

The dead were thrown to a pit as people began cleaning up the area.

‘Half…’

Half of the knights and soldiers were killed. Knights had potions to save themselves, but the soldiers weren’t so fortunate.

‘At least we have an abundance of potions.’

There were three knights who were saved by the potions. A knight was more important than any ordinary soldier.

“Sir James!”

Knight named Don from the marquis came to him and handed over a bag of water.

“Our damage?”

“We have 321 men left for battle. We’ve counted 367 men dead, 170 wounded. 10 knights were killed and some are wounded. They will be out of battle for a few days.”

James nodded and another man ran up to him.

“Reporting, sir! Forces led by Sir Monayn from Count Crien were ambushed on Redoin Passage and were wiped out! All 130 soldiers and Sir Monayn himself had been killed, sir.”

James froze. The Redoin Passage was the road en route to this area.

“How did that happen!”

Don seemed to be surprised as another man ran up to them.

“Reporting! Viscount Hott’s army, who’s been confronting Count Khalodian’s forces, has increased to 1,500 men!”

“Reporting! An additional 1,000 soldiers have arrived to support the Galian forces at a day’s distance away! There are two knights with them. It seems like it’s Count Rentry’s forces.”

More reports poured in as the day passed by.

‘It’s a mess.’

The war was far from being over. The battlefield was expanding.

‘It will become full-scale war soon. I should prepare,’ James thought.

He was right.
