Chapter 197: Warmongering Wind of Khalodian (5)
-The elite army of Toria from the West has fallen!-
-Commander Torres’ army from the East has been wiped out!-
-The Khalodian army is victorious again!-
-Torian soldiers have revolted against the king!-
-Khalodian has won!-
-All the knights died instantly!-
“Hey, did you hear? Lord Khalodian is accepting all prisoners of war as his citizens! He did it before but he’s doing it again!”
“He’s amazing and a real hero! Damn king and nobles, so greedy for the mines!”
“The mines are a huge deal. Don’t you know nobles fight over it every day? Even though they have to give half of the mined iron to the king?”
The people around were shocked.
“What! They receive half and are still so greedy?”
“Yeah. Nobles are like thieves!”
“Yes, except our lord.”
“Right. The other nobles don’t care if we starve to death.”
“We don’t even get medicine in other places!”
“My father survived from being half-dead!”
“It even cures amputated legs! They use potions on commoners!”
“The countess asked us to pay back by working for the land. My son is committed to being a soldier for life.”
“Wow.”
War did not change anything within Khalodian land. The only thing that changed was the mindset of the citizens. They had become more loyal than ever as they heard news of continued victory. The people were excited and they celebrated.
The roads were filled with various performers showing off their skills of music and tricks that gathered people from all around.
“Strawberries! Strawberries straight from the greenhouse! We have strawberry juice too!”
“Banana! It tastes amazing!”
“Scorpion skewers here!”
Vendor carts sold various fruits and foods on the road so people walking by could purchase them and enjoy the food. The roads were like a festival.
“This place is amazing!”
“Yeah.”
A woman blushed in excitement as she watched the roads.
‘She loves this place.’
A man sighed in relief as he saw how excited his sister Neyri was. He had brought her to sell her off as a marriage candidate to the lord of the city.
‘I am sorry Neyri. It is our only way to survive… It’s not going to be too bad for you either.’
He hesitated time after time but his family needed enormous amounts of money to overcome the crisis. And so, he, Duke Bidd Zatra, had to make a decision.
“Brother! Look at that! Isn’t it beautiful? I think it’s a kind of food!”
Neyri pointed at bread shaped like various animals. They all looked very cute as they vaguely resembled bears and ducks.
“Come here, it’s our best dessert! You will see that it tastes great with the coffee!”
“Brother! Come!”
Neyri dragged Duke Bidd to a seat and ordered. The coffee and cakes were served soon after. The scent of the cake prompted Bidd to take a bite, and it tasted wonderful.
“Eww, this is too bitter!”
Neyri’s beautiful face frowned as she sipped her coffee. She then used her fork to take a bite of the cake.
‘I’m sorry…’
Bidd felt tremendous guilt thinking about selling his innocent sister for the family.
“Brother! I see why they drink this bitter coffee! This sweet cake tastes so much better with the coffee! It’s amazing.”
The servers smiled as they watched Neyri shouting in excitement. The other customers seemed to share the same feeling.
‘This is an amazing place.’
It was still a time of war, but the city did not have any problems from within. Not many nobles turned their backs on Khalodian and the people were sure that they would win again.
‘This place is like heaven to the commoners.’
The city provided all the necessary living requirements to the commoners. The ruler of this land was very powerful, providing a safe haven to its people while sending its enemies to hell.
‘Not only that…’
The city was now the center of the world’s economy. There was an endless sea of crops and towns and cities were built outside the main city. Every town and city was built with strong walls to fend off any monsters and their hunters hunted down monsters on a regular basis.
The city also began raising herbivores by feeding them with corn. It was considered a crazy idea as it seemed impossible to feed them all, but the roots and twigs left after harvesting proved to be a reliable source of food.
‘I must succeed. The empire is done for, there’s no hope.’
That was what Duke Bidd thought of the empire. It was still strong after the assassination of the emperor and the pope, but their sons were now waging war against each other to take the throne. It might be strong now, but it would decline soon.
‘History will now focus on the Khalodians.’
It was just a matter of time for Khalodian to rise in power. At that moment, a loud bell rang throughout the city, signaling the end of labor for the day. Duke Bidd turned to the red sky where the sun had started to set.
