Chapter 174: The Elf’s World (2)
In any case, the air in the area was so clean and refreshing that Luke felt reinvigorated. Hopefully, a good part of the elves' world would still be like that. Luke wasn't much of an environmentalist, but he realized that those places needed to be protected after seeing a beautiful forest like that. He also could see how such an environment made someone like Rina grow up to be like that. Luke didn't know how things were in indigenous villages back on Earth, but he imagined that the number of crimes was low since they found everything they needed on natural.
Eventually, they left the forest, and Luke found some smoke curtains in the distance. One didn't have to be a genius to see that the monsters were causing a lot of destruction, even after four years… Rina began to sweat cold because the elves' base was supposed to be in one of those spots. Their timing was good or bad? Could they hurry up and help Rina's friends or would they just see something that will break her spirit?
"Just in case, you should keep these," Luke said and then passed his boomerangs to her. "I never used those all that much, after all. In any case, now that I think about it, you should have some equipment, right? Where we can find them?"
"Yes, but we left them on our base," Rina replied.
Rina and Shalia never had the chance to store that many gold coins, so he wasn't expecting much from their old gear. Still, it would be better to let them fight using what they were used to. Besides, it will take a while before the shop opens again…
They began to run toward the base, and much to Luke's annoyance, who wanted to help Rina calm down, he managed to see some monsters in the distance running toward them… coming from the place they were heading. They had been spotted already? That was weird… They didn't do anything out of the ordinary yet.

Luke opened his eyes widely when he saw those creatures. They had red skin but dark scales on their backs. They also looked like oversized lizards who were constantly emitting smoke through their mouths. The salamanders were way different than he recalled.
"Wow… their levels are pretty high," Luke said.
"That isn't a type of monster I had seen until now… I suppose another troublesome enemy is targeting this planet," Rina said while biting her lips.
"Keep your distance and offer support like usual," Luke said.
"You know… I am a lot more useful now, and I am not that weak," Rina said.
Luke ignored that and dashed toward the enemy. When they entered his range, he used Stinger, and the salamanders also opened their mouths. Luke was thankful for that… he made three of the monsters taste his new sword in the blink of an eye, but his strikes didn't pierce that deeply. Despite the elemental advantage, their HP dropped only to twenty percent.
"They are pretty tough…" Luke said.
Those creatures were three meters long, so it was only obvious they would be that resilient. In any case, since his pre-emptive strike failed, Luke saw himself surrounded by ten salamanders. Still, fortunately, Rina finished off the three that he had attacked before.

The others opened their mouths and used Flamethrower. The power couldn't be compared to Arcnine… But Luke didn't let those hit him. It was a bit painful, but he used Water Tornado to block the flames. While he was spinning inside the tornado, Luke made it approach the Salamanders and engulfed four of them instantly. The other three managed to run away and aimed toward Rina, but she hit them in the eyes with the boomerangs, blinding them.
Luke canceled the spell, and while he was trying to recover from the dizziness, Shalia turned them into ice statues. The fact that they were completely wet and dizzy helped more than a little bit. When Luke recovered, he saw the remaining three shooting fire toward all sides. Finishing them off with Stinger had been easy now that they couldn't move or even think of dodging.

"That wasn't so hard… considering that they were at a higher level than me," Luke said. "I suppose the sword paid an important role in this fight."
"Let's keep moving," Rina said after she confirmed that the monsters didn't drop anything.
Luke nodded, but in the end, several groups of salamanders tried to slow them down… several times. While the experience and gold coins were pretty nice, it seemed that the enemy was buying time for one reason or the other. Keeping fighting like that will only help them.
"Let's ignore them," Luke said.
"How? I hate to say this, but I am not the speedy type. Not even with my support magic, I can outrun them," Rina said.
"I can. Jump on my back," Luke said.
Rina hesitated. It couldn't be helped to stay on his shoulders on her chibi form but on her adult size… It was more than a little bit embarrassing. Still, she did that because she was worried about her people.. As for Luke, he cursed his armor and coat that prevented him from feeling that nice sensation of two large bazongas on his back.
