Lu Chen needed some intelligence.
The hunt this morning made Lu Chen understand that he was not fast unless he slowly picked up the hunting techniques, otherwise, his only option was to use himself as bait to hunt for the powerful barbaric beasts.
After all, the barbaric beasts were much more powerful than ordinary beasts, and they often had their own territory.
At the same time, they were very territorial. They wouldn’t allow anything to enter it easily and would choose to fight those who dared to do so instead of running away.
Therefore, Lu Chen wouldn’t have to worry about his prey running away from him. As long as he could defeat the barbaric beasts, he would be able to find himself a large amount of food.
Of course, the barbaric beasts were extremely dangerous. But risks had to be taken if he wanted to become stronger.
On the other hand, as a youth from modern Earth, Lu Chen didn’t just jump into execution right away. Instead, he came to look for Uncle Da Zhuang to learn as much as he could to minimize the risk.
If I go around searching for barbaric beasts, it’d only slow down my hunt and I might even run into the stronger barbaric beasts that I can’t handle yet. But, it’ll be different if I talk to someone with experience.
The Wild Bull Village has been here since ages ago, someone will surely know something about the barbaric beasts’ location and powers. Once I learn everything about the barbaric beasts, then I can slowly filter and pick the right barbaric beast to take on.
That way, not only can I hunt, I can also minimize my risk.
Lu Chen’s plan was to gather as much intelligence he could before hunting.
However, Da Zhuang had no single idea what Lu Chen had in mind. He still thought Lu Chen was asking so he could avoid the barbaric beasts during his hunt.
As Da Zhuang was good friends with Lu Chen’s father, in addition to Lu Chen’s initiative to repay him, Da Zhuang didn’t hold back his tongue and told everything he knew to Lu Chen.
After hearing what he wanted, Lu Chen also stood up and excused himself.
“Ah’Chen, come have a meal with us before leaving.”
“That’s right, Ah’Chen. Stay. I’ll cook good food for you.”
Looking at Da Zhuang’s wife smiling face, Lu Chen recalled the young barbarian Ah’Chen’s memories.
The barbarians were poor, food was limited in every family. Back in the days, Uncle Da Zhuang had been feeding Lu Chen enough to keep him alive, which dissatisfied Uncle Da Zhuang’s wife.
But now, when Lu Chen brought them half a brown bear, her attitude took a 180 degree turn.
This was the respect that strength brought.
However, Lu Chen didn’t plan to stay. His appetite was too big, it’s better that he not take up others’ food.
But just when Lu Chen thought it’s time for him to leave, Da Zhuang’s wife suddenly remembered something.
Her eyes brightened up and she said, “Ah’Chen, you are still not married, yes? What do you think about our family’s Xiao Mai?”
Her words stunned Lu Chen on the spot while Uncle Da Zhuang also laughed on the side.
“Ah’Chen, you are not young anymore. You need someone to take care of your home.”
No, I’m still young. I’m not even 16 yet.
Of course, Lu Chen didn’t say it out but only in his heart. A barbarian was considered an adult at the age of 13.
“Uncle Da Zhuang, I don’t plan to marry anytime soon. Furthermore, I have Xiao Wei to help with the house chores.”
“Ah’Chen, Xiao Wei is incapable of heavy tasks but Xiao Mai is different. How about this, I’ll have Xiao Mai to help you out in your home starting tomorrow.”
“Please no, it’s really fine!”
Lu Chen couldn’t handle Uncle Da Zhuang’s wife and escaped home in embarrassment.
When he reached home, he realized Xiao Wei been waiting for him by the doors.
“Ah’Chen, you are back.”
“En, is the food ready?”
“Yes, it is.”
He walked into the room and saw two cooked bear paws but he didn’t eat them right away. Instead, he opened up his attribute page and looked into his points.
[Mastery Points: 487]
After hunting Evils last night and the brown bear in the day, Lu Chen earned another 400 some Mastery Points after leveling his Swordsman class.
Now, Lu Chen was ready to spend these Mastery Points and the energy from the bear paws into his levels.
However, looking at his attributes, Lu Chen was having a headache on which attributes to strengthen first.
The Mastery Points were useful, whether they were used to upgrade his skills or increase his levels, it could greatly improve Lu Chen’s prowess.
But Lu Chen’s Mastery Points were scant and there were so many attributes he wanted to use it on. Which was why he was hesitating a lot now.
After some silence, Lu Chen gritted his teeth.
“System, level up my Swordsman class.”
[System Message: Host spent 200 Mastery Points and leveled up Swordsman class to level 2. Agility +1.]
Something of note was that basic attributes would be increased too after leveling.
But that wasn’t all the reason as to why Lu Chen decided to level up first.
My skills are strong, but they are mostly targeted at humans or beasts.
But it’s the Evils that are most threatening to me.
Therefore, for my own safety, my priority is to increase my level quickly up to Level 5 and draw a skill from the system that can harm the Evils. By then, my life will be much easier.
To acquire more skills, especially those that could harm the Evils, was the true reason why Lu Chen decided to level up first.
Lu Chen clearly remembered that there were many skills in the skill bank that could harm the Evils.
The Armament Haki, Observation Haki, Kayle’s Divine Judgement, and Demon Slayer’s Ghost Slash. These are some of the skills that could surely hurt the Evils. Let’s hope I draw one of them next time.
Of course, drawing a new skill would only happen when he leveled up to Level 5. Right now, Lu Chen still had a long way to go.
Leveling required energy, but perhaps because it was only an ordinary leveling in one of his two classes, Lu Chen didn’t spend a lot of energy.
He only ate one and half out of the two bear paws and had already replenished the energy consumed by the system.
He looked at the rest of the bear paw and saw the silent Xiao Wei staring at it, Lu Chen nodded in satisfaction.
“You can have the rest.”
Back when Lu Chen still hadn’t found a way to acquire food, he was stingy and only gave Xiao Wei the meat soup to drink.
But it was different now. There were many beasts out there in the wild waiting for Lu Chen to hunt. Hence, Lu Chen wasn’t worried about running out of food anymore.
“Thank you, master.”
After giving Xiao Wei the food and ordering her to wash his clothes, Lu Chen went to rest on his own.
Although I will have no problems not sleeping for days, I still have to patrol and hunt tonight. So it’s a must that I take some rest now.
…
In order to keep his body in its peak state for the upcoming battles tonight, Lu Chen took a nap all the way until the evening. He only woke up from bed when he got enough rest.
In the meantime, Xiao Wei already had the meat cooked as instructed.
This time, Lu Chen didn’t eat them but instead, wrapped them up with big tree leaves. When Xiao Wei saw Lu Chen leaving behind some food for her, she quickly said.
“Master, the leftover bear paw is enough for me for days. I’m not hungry.”
“You sure? You don’t have to worry about food. I can still feed you.”
“Yes, it’s enough. Master, it’s definitely enough. I’m super full already.”
It was, of course, a lie. The leftover bear paw was only enough to make her not hungry. But from her years of experience living in the Wilderness, Xiao Wei already understood how precious food really was.
Therefore, as she was afraid of getting kicked out for being a burden, she didn’t dare to eat too much.
But Lu Chen was oblivious of all of that nor did he have the time to think about all of that. Right now, all that filled his mind was how to deal with the Evils.
After Xiao Wei said that she didn’t need the food, Lu Chen just wrapped up everything and left.
He walked on the same way as yesterday and arrived at the patrol camp. At the same time, there was already someone waiting for him with a jar in his hands.
