Chapter 404 One Step at a Time

*GRAAAAAGH!*

With a powerful roar, the largest of the undead dragons managed to flip the ground before it. Zeshion stood still, unperturbed by the attack, and merely smiled in mockery.

"What's wrong? Is that all you can do?"

He even went as far as taunting it, causing the undead dragon to rampage in anger. It ran forward, approaching Zeshion, but it wasn't able to close the distance.

"FIRE!"

At my command, the other tamers, who were gauging their timing, let off various modes of attack. Others let out sword waves, while others fired projectiles. The attacks came from all sides, making the undead dragon unable to block every attack.

For the rest of them, they moved to the closest tamers or monsters to their position. As they did, the tamers in that area focused on defense, while those beside them continued raining attacks.

The demons were continuously receiving damage, while the tamers suffered close to zero damage!

*GRAAAAAAA!*

The undead dragons roared in pain, but unfortunately for them, the fight's just about to get more one-sided.

"Change formation! Circle!"

At my command, both ends of the previous Crane Wing Formation moved quickly, "wrapping" around the god-level demons and meeting at the opposite side. With this, the demons are now completely surrounded.

"Sic 'em!"

After that, I didn't even need to give further commands. The demons suffered attacks from literally all directions before finally falling down. The number of attacks was just too many; even though they were coming from 8th to 9th-stages, the damage piled up until they died of exhaustion.

"Scouts, check the surroundings for other demons! The rest, rest for a while. Retrieval team, collect the essence crystals!"

After the battle, everyone felt elated. After all, most of them haven't experienced fighting god-level enemies yet. Cases like mine that experienced fighting against powerful enemies despite the large level gap were rare... to the point that only I had such an experience.

After the first battle ended with our complete victory, along with zero casualties, the morale of the army rose to its highest point. They were so pumped up that some were even wishing that more god-level demons would pop out!

After the collection and scouting were over, the army continued marching onward, resuming the column formation while sweeping the entire land. Sometimes, scouts would see weaker demons, but with Goddess Zeta along with us, they weren't really much of a threat.

After a while more, lunchtime came without us encountering another god-level demon. After setting up the defenses, the army took a short lunch break and rested. Everyone did as they wished, finishing their "business" along the way until an hour later, when we resumed the march.

One step at a time, we headed deeper to the south.

Finally, we reached the area of the Old Capital. It was a memorable location for me since this is where... I was confined when I was kidnapped by the Demon Tamers. Right, it wasn't a good memory. Either way, we decided to camp around the old capital area for a while, setting up more powerful weakening arrays against the demons.

Since marching at night would be dangerous for us due to lower visibility, we spent the night there. There were a few demons that managed to reach the camp, but nothing that a little flick from Goddess Zeta couldn't handle.

The morning came without much trouble, and we resumed our march. A few kilometers away from our camping spot, we quickly found a group of god-level demons once more. This time, we managed to sweep them all in a surprise attack using the guns. It was over in a flash.

About a hundred kilometers in, the real struggle finally started.

"Everyone, watch for the flank! Another one's coming in!"

From that point on, demons were popping out from all directions, making it hard to maintain our formation. It actually almost collapsed several times, but I managed to fix it up by participating in the battle myself. Of course, I left a clone to do the general commanding. It barely had any energy, but it should last a week, at least as long as it wasn't damaged.

"Zeshion, take on those three! Ajax, you handle that one!"

As I'm in the center of the battlefield now, I can give more fine-

tuned commands too. Though my commands aren't heard by a lot, since they weren't broadcast by Goddess Beta, I could only control a few troops.

Well, that was more than enough, either way.

With Zeshion and Ajax by my side, it was more than enough to handle any threats.

"Myriad Phantom Blades, First Form: [Blooming Rose]!"

In such a chaotic battlefield, standing still is almost equivalent to death. Everyone kept moving around, making sure that they weren't locked onto by any of the god-level demons of various types as they poured attacks of their own.

Of course, I was also attacking as much as possible, dealing damage to the demons along my path. However, despite that, the situation barely returned to normalcy.

"There are just too many of them!"

We were just a hundred kilometers in, and we were already surrounded by nearly a hundred demons! That count was already after we mowed them down with the guns, reducing their numbers by half.

But as time passed, the more we killed, the more that came as backup. At this pace, we would end up getting overwhelmed after 30 more minutes!

"We need to change plans!"

I shouted once before pulling out something from my pocket.

"I'm counting on you, Ember!"

I jumped up, as high as I could, and tried to find the center of the demons. There, I flicked the item in my hand and hit it with the flat side of my sword like a bat. The item flew in a straight line, landing at the spot that I was aiming for before I started falling down.

"NOW!"

I shouted.

At the same time, Ember, who was listening to me through the Mental Scape moved, sending a single command. A moment later, a star fell from the sky...
