Chapter 793 Final Boss
The manner in which the old Assassin Alliance was designed was that, apart from a giant central gathering chamber, designed to hold entrance tests and other common gathering ceremonies, every major clan that made up the alliance had their own private quarters, that were areas specifically designated to house their clan members.
Among these, the Gu clan's chambers stood out as one of the largest and most ornate. The clan was known as one of the strongest within the alliance, and this was evident even in the ruins of their domain.
As Leo entered their private quarters, the first thing he noticed was the ornate furniture lying around.
Though the furniture scattered around was weathered and dated, the craftsmanship was undeniable.
The intricately carved chairs and tables, fashioned from rare ebony wood, bore the marks of painstaking artistry. Golden inlays, though faded, glimmered faintly in the dim light, and fragments of jade decorations could still be seen embedded in the walls.
Even in their current state, the remnants of the Gu clan spoke of their wealth, influence, and power, and had Leo been an adventurer short on money, he would have spent a good while looting everything in here, as it could most definitely fetch a pretty buck in the outside world.
As Leo strode further into the chamber, his attention was drawn towards a large mass of pulsating mana, as he could almost feel the presence of an enormous supply of mana stones.
"Lord Father, there seems to be an active mana vein somewhere around here…. These mana fluctuations around us are not normal" Dumpy noted, as Leo nodded his head in agreement.
The frog had keen senses just like him, and the two of them shared the same assessment of the situation.
"Well, no harm in checking it out—" Leo said, as just as he began moving towards the direction he could sense the disrupted mana flow coming from, he heard a low guttural growl, a warning from a nasty beast.
Just from the sound alone, Leo could conclude that it wasn't the growl of an ordinary beast—for it carried with it a weight, a primal power that demanded attention.
And he wasn't wrong, for emerging from the far end of the chamber was a colossal nine-tailed fox. Its silver fur glowing faintly in the dim chamber, as it reflected the eerie light from the cracked runes along the walls.
Each of its nine tails swayed in unison, a mesmerizing display of its immense power and grace, as its crimson eyes locked onto Leo and Dumpy, glowing with predatory intensity.
[Level 650: Nine-Tailed Fox Guardian]
The title hovered above the beast as Leo inspected him, a stark warning to anyone foolish enough to approach.
For most players, this creature could spell certain death— for it was a final world boss-level guardian meant to obliterate challengers. But Leo did not even flinch.
Beasts of this level no longer fazed him, and it showed in his behaviour as he continued walking nonchalantly.
*GROWLLL—*
The fox let out a piercing snarl, its claws scraping against the stone floor as it stepped forward.
The sheer size of the beast was daunting; its head alone could dwarf most players. Yet, despite its overwhelming presence, Leo remained unmoved, his gaze unwavering.
"Move or die" Leo said calmly, as the beast finally began to check the opponent out, sensing that something about its opponent today was definitely amiss.
And as soon as it did check out Leo and Dumpy, its snarl began to soften into a low growl as its sharp instincts kicked in.
For a moment, it met Leo's eyes, and what it saw made it falter. There was no fear in Leo's expression, only an unyielding confidence... one of a predator sizing up its prey.
The aura Leo exuded was suffocating, one that even a beast of its caliber couldn't ignore, and to make matters worse, the beast seated upon Leo's shoulders, the small frog, exuded a power far stronger than even Leo himself.
With a sudden whimper, the fox stepped back, its tails lowering submissively. It let out a soft, almost apologetic huff before retreating into a corner of the chamber, as it covered its eyes with its paws, hoping that Leo would forgive his previous transgression.
The beast coiled into itself, its massive body trembling slightly as it avoided further eye contact with Leo.
Leo smirked, his gaze lingering on the cowering creature for a moment before he turned his attention back to the room. "Smart choice," he muttered under his breath, stepping past the subdued world boss without a second glance.
Having already reached level 1000, Leo had no necessity to farm any more EXP, and hence although the world beast was an interesting opponent, Leo let him live for now, for fighting it was just a waste of his precious time.
"Good that you understand your place…. Mongrel" Dumpy added, his previous tension fading as he relaxed on Leo's shoulder once again.
The fox remained curled in the corner, watching silently as the intruder passed, fully aware of the danger it had just avoided.
It usually did not stay in such a place, however, it was the mana rich environment of the mana vein that had attracted it to burrow its way down here, and as soon as Leo stepped past it, he found himself staring against a wall full of mana stones growing out of it, as it seemed like a natural mana vein had formed itself in the vicinity.
"I should report this place to ChaosBringer…. Maybe he can earn a significant sum of money if he can farm this resource properly" Leo mused, as although he was not interested in the mana vein personally, he could see it's potential application for the betterment of the Empire.
