Chapter 116

Eliana was hurt…

She was so focused on chasing after Hodge that she did not even notice the glass shards on the table. Actually, she did not even know that those glass shards had pierced through her skin.

The moment Preston reminded her about it, she suddenly felt pain all over her arm, stinging her.

She could not help but think of everything that had happened to her in the past few days.

Nicole had slapped her in the face; then she had almost gotten stabbed by a paper knife; and later, she had fallen to the floor while trying to grab her cellphone. However, she felt more miserable now because of her injuries and the bleeding.

How could she be so unlucky?

“Preston, don’t you think that I have been really unlucky lately? I suffered a lot and I got hurt!”

“We need to get your wound dressed first.”

Maurice’s expression darkened at once, and it seemed as though there was a storm brewing in his dark eyes.

The blood dripping from Eliana’s arm was making him uncomfortable.

“Sit here while I go and fetch the first aid kit.”

Maurice escorted her into the private room and went to get the first aid box.

Eliana’s heart softened as she saw the busy man. She was moved to see that someone cared so much about her and even felt the pain lessened.

Holding a pair of tweezers, Maurice carefully removed the glass shards from her arm.

“I didn’t expect you to be so skilled at first aid,” Eliana muttered in a low voice, a warm emotion filling her heart.

“How can I not be skilled? Do you know how many of your wounds I’ve treated lately?” Maurice said with self-mockery. But the concern in his eyes was obvious.

Eliana curled her lips and said, “And how many times did you treat my wound? You must have mistaken me for someone else.”

After all, he was a gigolo who was involved with many women, so it was only natural for her to think that he must have treated other women’s wounds.

An inexplicable feeling of envy spread in her heart when she thought of Preston helping other women so gently.

Maurice’s heart skipped a beat as he realized what he just said.

He had almost exposed himself just a second ago by revealing that he had treated her wounds.

“Could there be anyone who is as dumb as you?” Maurice quickly changed the topic. “Even though you’re a grown-up, you still don’t know how to protect yourself.”

After cleaning the wound, he applied some hydrogen peroxide over it to disinfect the wound.

The moment the cotton swab doused in hydrogen peroxide touched her wound, Eliana could not help but gasp in pain.

“Endure the outcome of your recklessness.”

Although Maurice was pretending to be cold, his movements were very gentle.

Gradually, Eliana’s pain subsided, but she could not stop thinking about Hodge.

Hodge had been a senior employee at the Pierce Group, so he must know what had happened back then. Why was he so keen on hiding the truth from her?

Thinking of that, she felt as though someone was covering her eyes with a veil, making it impossible for her to see the truth.

Maurice finally wrapped a bandage around Eliana’s arm, and when he looked up, he saw her frowning.

It was not surprising to him that he did not hear her screaming from the pain. She had been absent- minded for a long time now.

“Are you thinking about that man you were chasing? Tell me, why were you chasing him? Maybe, I can help you.”

Maurice was also confused. Eliana had asked him about Hodge before, and she had been really emotional at that time. Why was she so keen on finding Hodge?

Since it was about her painful past, Eliana was a little hesitant.

It was true that Preston was the father of her kids, but was he worthy of her trust?

She had trusted someone with all her heart, and when that person betrayed her, it had been engraved in her heart. Was she really going to risk opening up to someone again?

For some reason, she recalled all of her interactions with Preston.

He had gotten injured at the black market while trying to save her, and he had provided her with an umbrella when it had rained that day. He had even gotten her a birthday cake.

Until now, she did not realize that they had experienced so many things together.

Gritting her teeth, she decided to make a bet again.

“That man is Hodge Chadwick. Several years ago, my parents were set up, and their company went bankrupt. Both of them died. And Hodge was a key figure at my parents’ company, so I think that perhaps he knows the truth about it.”

Although Eliana sounded very calm, Maurice could feel the weighing sadness in her voice.

She was usually very optimistic and strong, but now, she seemed like a fragile porcelain doll, which made him want to take care of her.

However, her story sounded strangely familiar to him.

Her surname was Pierce…

He immediately thought of the Pierce Group, which had been acquired by his Moran Group a few years ago.

After the bankruptcy of the Pierce Group, the boss had jumped off a building, committing suicide and soon his wife had also died.

They had a daughter at that time. Was it Eliana?
