Once Jiang Fei was in the air, he made sure that he was not followed before heading toward where Hua Mulan was.
“My lord!” cried Hua Mulan when she saw him coming toward her
“Darling!” cried Sylphy as she wrapped her arms around Jiang Fei’s hand.
“It’s always nice to see you,” said Jiang Fei with a smile.
“The feeling is mutual. When a kind adventurer had informed us about the trouble you are in, we rushed over immediately,” said Nina.
“Well, I am in trouble but it is something that I can still handle on my own. However, I appreciate if all of you could hide in the shadow for now. Please do not let yourself seen until I call for you,” said Jiang Fei.
“Very well,” said Nina as she pulled Sylphy away from Jiang Fei and directed the rest of Hua Mulan’s soldiers away.
Jiang Fei did not expect the girls to appear so soon. Fighting in a battle was a gamble on its own. Players can safely participate in any fights as even if they died, they could always revive again. NPCs stayed dead. Even though Jiang Fei was close with the girls and did not develop any special feelings for them, he did not want the girls to just die by the hands of players. The worst ones were Hua Mulan’s underlings. They were, at best, Level 80 Elite tier NPCs. Even with 100,000 of them, they would be easily killed. Just as easy as how Empyreal Dragon had dealt with 40,000 NPC soldiers. Given time, even a million of them would be easy.
There was one more reason why Jiang Fei did not want the girls to show up in the fight just yet.
After Jiang Fei had Hua Mulan and the rest of Jiang Fei’s harem to stay put, he flew back to where the convoy was and hovered in the skies to have a better view of the surrounding.
Twenty minutes later, the convoy made it into a new terrain. The convoy was now amongst the highlands where the roads were narrow and steep. Although the hills were not too high, they were tall enough to become a perfect hiding spot. This was a valley where enemies were about organize an ambush.
If Jiang Fei was given a choice, he would have turned back and chosen a different route. Unfortunately, the route was fixed and the NPCs would only stick to this given route.
“If I were the enemy, I would definitely set up an ambush in this entire highlands,” said Billy Boy to Jiang Fei.
“Shuush! Don’t jinx it,” said Lady Casanova before Jiang Fei could chime in.
“He’s right. I’m going to the sky to check out the surroundings,” said Jiang Fei.
As he was flying around, he saw plains of hills and trees that grew tall and large. Oddly enough, there was no one in sight. Nothing but cool clouds and green flora.
“There’s no one around…”
“Guild master? What’s going on?” Billy Boy asked.
“There’s no one around. I’m heading out further to check,” said Jiang Fei as he zoomed past the clouds and entered the highland’s core.
“Something is not right. Why isn’t there anyone here in the best ambush spot?” wondered Billy Boy.
“Perhaps they’re dumb. Let’s just hope that they’re dumb! Things would be easier then!” said Lady Casanova.
“Nothing is not right,” said Jiang Fei as he reached a place where the road was empty.
“What’s going on?” Lady Casanova asked.
“I don’t know! It’s just… I have this feeling that something is not right! The road is too empty!” said Jiang Fei.
“Could it invisible enemies?” guessed Billy Boy.
“Huh?” Jiang Fei was thrown. If there were enemies in Stealth state, he would not be able to detect it.
“I don’t think so. If Bandits and Assassins leave their main group, they would be glass cannons waiting to be killed by us,” said Little Rain.
“I understand it now! I’ve figured it out!” cried Billy Boy as he cried out loud.
“What now?” said Jiang Fei.
“I understood how the enemies are going to attack us! Damn! They are strong!”
“Stop blabbering and explain!” said Lazy Casanova.
“We are now in the highlands. No matter where the enemies are attacking us from, we are completely at their mercy. What if the enemies are not in the hills but in the flatlands behind us?” suggested Billy Boy.
“Are you saying they are trying to attack us from the back?” Little Rain asked.
“If that’s the case, I could just assign a few men behind to stop them there,” said Seven Star Warrior.
“No! What if there are really an army of invisible Bandits and Assassins waiting for us in the front? Would you still arrange a few men to be placed in the back?” said Billy Boy.
“So, what are we going to do about this?” asked Little Rain.
“I need to think…” Billy Boy grunted.
“The enemies had planned this from the start. The measly 300,000 players that we had just defeated were merely pawns. We are now dealing with the generals! Argh! I really wish I knew who they are and have a nice chat with them,” said Billy Boy.
“Stop putting up airs. How are we going to solve this problem?” said Lady Casanova as she slapped Billy Boy on his back.
“There’s nothing we can do now. It’s too late as we have already sprung the trap. All we can do is to hope that the reinforcement has arrived in the flatlands before the enemy does. That way, we would have enough manpower to defeat them. However, if we are surrounded first, there’s no telling how we could defeat them. We could fight them but the cargo will be destroyed,” said Billy Boy.
“How long until reinforcement arrives?” Jiang Fei asked Lady Casanova.
“In fifteen minutes, they will arrive in the flatlands behind us,” said Lady Casanova.
“That’s good,” Jiang Fei nodded and quickly send a message to Happy Drunk to ask him for his time of arrival. Happy Drunk replied almost instantly, saying that he and his army would arrive in twenty minutes or less.
“Stop the convoy and consolidate our defenses around the cargo. There’s no telling how far can we go. If the enemy arrives first, we will fight them,” said Jiang Fei confidently.
“Guild master? Is there something that you’re not telling us? How are you so calm and composed?” asked Lady Casanova. Even though she had chosen a female minotaur as her character race and spoke loudly, very unladylike, she was still a lady in the end and her observation skills were as sharp as an eagle.
“You’ll know soon enough,” said Jiang Fei with a smirk.
In no time, the entire convoy came to a halt. All 50,000 Empyreal Dragon players formed a proper defensive formation around the convoy. After they had learned their lessons after being ambushed by stealth players, Hunters and Rangers had deployed plenty of traps around the area to prevent any invisible enemies from striking them unnoticed.
Everyone was busy for a moment and when all the preparation was done, Jiang Fei ordered everyone to sit down and wait quietly. Jiang Fei himself sat in the far back of the convoy. He sat there, quietly waiting for whoever to appear. If it was his own, the convoy should be fine. If it was the enemy, then there shall be bloodshed.
