Chapter 769 - Heavy Casualties
Chapter 769: Heavy Casualties
The martial artists were bombarded by countless attacks. Everyone fooled by the illusion opened their eyes to the real world. However, before they could even identify their attackers, it was already too late.
The Mutants that were attacking were all Level 2 and Level 3 Mutants, except for Shroder and Berry. They were at the Advanced stage of Level 4. Their attacks were not on a different level. Flames were thrown into the pit, like rocket thrusters used by NASA and lighting bolts the likes of Zeus, the legendary god! The duo’s attacks were merciless. They were so powerful that almost any Level 3 fighter that was attacked would have died instantly.
While Level 3 fighters were dropping like flies, only the Level 4 fighters were able to escape the hellish attacks by dodging at lightning speed.
“Ambush?!”
“Retreat! Retreat!”
…
Ge Hong and Cai Bei were amongst the Level 4 fighters that could evade all the attacks. Without wasting time, they picked up injured disciples, one after another, and carried them out of the bombing zone. Even though they could continue dodging, their speed and tenacity were reduced greatly since they had taken the first wave of attack directly in their face. Although it was not fatal, their injuries made them unable to exert their full force.
“Kill them!”
“Kill them chings!”
…
When the bombardment stopped and the dust settled, all the Mutants that were hiding on top of hills and mountains came down like wildebeest. They came in from all directions and surrounded the martial artists, preventing them from getting out of that death circle.
“Dammit!” Cai Bei roared. There were currently less than 30 surviving fighters from both the Redsands and Azure Cloud sects combined. When the first wave of attack came, almost all of the lower tier disciples were killed, the rest were only able to escape due to their high alertness.
“I don’t think we could get out of here alive,” said Ge Hong bitterly as he wiped the blood and dust off his face. There were just too many of them! When the illusion was removed, the aura that those Mutants gave off was too powerful. Even the great Ge Hong and Cai Bei were scared.
These were the Mutants that they once looked down upon. The same Mutants that the martial artists were sure they could beat. The same Mutants that had just f*cked them in their face.
The first wave of Mutants were only 200, but not long after, more than 5,000 of them entered the fray. Even though most of them were Level 2 and Level 3 Mutants, there were still more than a thousand Level 4 Mutants over there.
How could they fight against these odds? Despite having an elite fighting force of over 700 martial artists, they could not possibly fend off over 5,000 Mutants!
After enhancements, the Mutants, as a whole, had gained an enormous upgrade. What was once a Level 1 Mutant with capabilities that even a well-trained soldier could defeat, had become Level 2, and some had even reached Level 3! There were no weaklings in the Mutant Brotherhood!
Even though they had better combat prowess, those martial artists could never fight all 5,000 Mutants at the same time! It was a fight that they know they could never win.
“Brother… Looks like we are kicking the bucket tonight,” said Ge Hong with a long sigh.
“That might be true. I’d say we kill as many as we can! If we are going to die, might as well die honorably!” Cai Bei cracked his knuckles, ready to deliver pain to the Mutants.
“Heh. Let’s show them what we’ve got!” Ge Hong squatted down and stretched his legs.
As soon as they got into their fighting stance, the Mutants roared and charged towards them like a pack of hungry lions.
A man roared and suddenly his body grew in size, shedding off his clothes and turning into a large 3-meter tall mouse. With speed faster than the martial artists could muster, the giant mouse dashed towards Cai Bei. Thankfully, Cai Bei was fully focused. He could see the incoming attack and dodged aside. Unfortunately for the disciple behind him, the giant mouse bit down on his rib and bit him in half with a snap of its giant jaw!
The man was originally a Level 1 Mutant with the ability to change his appearance to that of a mouse. His strength was similar to a regular human. At best, he could work in a circus. However, after Bio-Enhancement, he was boosted to Level 3. After morphing into his mouse form, he gained superhuman strength and size, becoming a powerful killer!
“Come at me! ARGHHH!”
Seeing that his disciple was bitten in half, Ge Hong eyes flared with rage. He unsheathed his sword and delivered a swing so fast that the sound of his sword slashing off the giant mouse’s head came only a second after the head had detached from the body.
Before he could turn around, another man came up to him and tried to stab him with a sharp pole.
PANG!
Ge Hong parried off the pole and it was then when he noticed that it was a piece of bone! The man’s weapon was his own bone!
The enemy was a Mutant that had the ability to grow bones from any part of his body as he pleased. The bones that he had created could be as brittle as pencil lead to as strong as titanium. He was originally an Intermediate Level 3. After Bio-Enhancement, he had reached Intermediate Level 4, almost as strong as Ge Hong himself!
The mutant was holding was a long spinal cord—long, flexible, yet as tough as steel. No matter how Ge Hong tried to break his weapon, it would not work!
“Come at me, yer freak!” Ge Hong roared.
The man complied and continued to attack Ge Hong with his bone weapon. It took over a hundred parries before the bone weapon cracked and broke.
“Is that all?” Ge Hong taunted.
“Heh. That’s the weakest bone. Here comes the stronger one,” said the man. The bone in his femur grew and pierced through his skin. It grew longer and longer before reaching the same length as Ge Hong’s sword. He pulled it off his flesh and prepared to fight.
“Tch…”
While Ge Hong was fighting the man with the bone weapon, another Mutant with invisibility came in from behind and struck him. In that instance, Ge Hong was beaten to the ground.
“There’s too many of them!” Ge Hong cried. Before he was attacked by the invisible man, Ge Hong had used too much strength in parrying all the attacks of the bone-man. Right then, his back was exposed, rendering him defenseless. He knew if he continued to fight like that, no one would survive!
There were just too many Mutants then. Not only did they all attacked at once, they also did it in such a despicable way! It was only 40 seconds since the start of the fight and there were only seven of them left!
All seven of these martial artists were Level 4 fighters. They were only able to survive this long into the battle because of their inhuman level of fighting capability and experience. The problem was, all the second-generation disciples were killed!
“I’ll slice all of your heads off!” Cai Bei roared. His eyes flared with wrath. In his hand, Cai Bei held a famed sword. It was light and extremely sharp—able to slice off any enemy with just a simple, effortless swing. After Cai Bei had killed several Level 3 Mutants in a single move, he made his way towards another Level 4 Mutant that was coming for him.
“Brother Cai, we need to get out of here!” Ge Hong roared as loud as he could. Even though all their disciples were killed, they could not lose hope!
“Alright! We will kill our way out!” Cai Bei retreated to Ge Hong’s side. Right then, Cai Bei did not care about anything. He had lost too much blood. The only thing he could do now was to kill as many Mutants as he could before he drew his last breath.
“You think you could just walk away as you please?” Desir smirked. He nodded to a young man next to him. In an instant, the man disappeared, leaving no trace, no smoke, nothing.
